NFL.com: U-M No. 6 Among Teams With Most NFL Talent

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

NFL.com is ranking the 25 college teams with the most NFL talent. They just released Nos. 6-10, and we check in at No. 6 - one spot ahead of Ohio State. Michigan State is No. 11. Our other rival, Rutgers, is not ranked (so I guess we can assume they'll be in the top 5). /s

It's pretty impressive that there are 5 more stocked teams than us. Pretty much the entire defense will be in the league next year, plus 3-4 major contributors from the offense.

That's fair. Besides, it's very hard for them to practice with other teams sleeping everywhere on and around their athletic facilities. It's quite distracting and creates abnormally long bathroom lines during points in the day you would expect lower usage. I can see why they get annoyed from time to time.

a talented team is another.

I think the biggest test for Coach Harbaugh this year will be to integrate the talented incoming freshman class into the rest of the team. This will not be easy as the freshmen know how talented they are, and have high expectations on their ability to contribute immediately.

Coach Harbaugh's challenge (along with the upper class-men) will be to quickly impress the freshmen that they are not just competing during practices on the field. They need to understand and act upon the necessity of competing in the classroom as well in their off-field behavior.

Depth is everything, especially at the backend of the schedule. Getting the best players of the talented freshman class onto the field early in the season may be the second most important contribution to the season's success than any other coaching challenge this year. (The first is obviously selecting a championship-caliber QB.)

is all of the departing talent at the end of this year.

At the very least, as a carrot, Harbaugh can point to the opportunities which will open next year.  And likely, to prepare some to step in next year, methinks Harbaugh will look for opportunities to give likely 2017 contributors spot duty.

Based on merit, of course, but with building experience for 2017 something that gets considered in the overall optimization.

PFF said he was a solid player last year and now he's on the NFL watchlist? I think he could be a solid college running back, but nothing I have seen has shown the athleticism and feel for the game that all NFL running backs possess. I guess he could be a goal line back/ backup, but someone please tell me I'm not crazy here

Productive college RBs at bigtime programs [and Smith will be that this year as long as the OL gets it's act together]  will get a shot in the NFL. The only thing Smith lacks is speed, just like Hart and Gerhart.

Guys this list is sleeping on:

Thomas, Hill, Stribling, Gedeon, Mone, Hurst, Braden, and Wheatley.

I would not be surprised by any of these guys getting drafted.

The last time we beat both OSU and MSU in the same season: 2003.

In 2003, we lost to Oregon (#22) (away), Iowa (#23) (away), and in the Rose Bowl against Co-National Champ USC (#1).

That year, we beat 5 ranked teams:

#15 ND
#17 Minnesota
#10 Purdue
#9 MSU
#4 OSU

I hate these lists because it puts ideas in the heads of guys who can leave early. I want Jabrill to play for Michigan for the rest of his playing career. Screw the NFL.

Thanks to Coach Hoke. We all know his flaws as a head coach, but one thing he did is recruit a lot of guys who not only had a lot of athletic potential, but were solid citizens as well.
