NFL Rumor: Jets Sniffing around Mora / Effects on 2015 Recruiting
According to this article from 2 days ago on NBC Sports, the Jets and possibly other NFL teams are sniffing around current UCLA coach, Jim Mora.
Thankfully, we're no longer in the head coach search business (HARBAUGH!), but thought it was interesting news due to any possible effects on 2015 Recruiting, specifically:
-
Josh Rosen, 5 Star QB, who's slated to enroll early at UCLA. on January 5th- (Edit: Looks like he signed a grant-in-aid agreement. Ship has officially sailed?)
- Chris Clark, 4 Star TE, who is apparently a UCLA lean according to the Twitterverse. (Sorry, I don't know how to embed tweets)
- Keisean Lucier-South, 4 Star WDE, commited to UCLA in November but had interest in Michigan at one point. Was also recruited by "potential" future Michigan DC DJ Durkin. (h/t to Wolverine Devotee and Gustavo Fring)
Can't for the first few waves of commits in this new year of 1 AH, or After Harbaugh.

I would not be surprised considering he has been in the NFL before. Hopefully it does happen just so that pretty much guarantees Clark will recommit.

including HARBAUGH

If that happens, hello: KLS.

5 star DE out of Orange County..he was highly interested in Michigan but committed to UCLA in November. Durkin was also listed as his recruiter from Florida.

I pictured a dog behind Mora when I read the title.

Aren't recruits allowed out of their grants in aid if their coach leaves?

Even if Rosen signed something and couldn't opt out. He could transfer and sit out a season, which in the case of a qb might happen anyway.

Brett Hundley declared for the NFL draft. Maybe he knows Mora is leaving <--this is how rumors get started.

I know a real estate agent in Montclair, New Jersey who was contacted today by a Shannon Mora with a target budget of $2,000,000 to $3,000,000.

Hmmm, Montclair is a very nice town with parts that have some of the biggest houses I've ever seen. I declare your info.......plausible.

For said Agent more interested in name dropping than discretely working for a high profile client.

signing the grant papers doesnt bind them to the school like a letter ofintent does. it is just fa submission of things like their parents income and their savings so that the school knows how much they are going to be giving to the kid to support them with their scholarships.

I hope he stays. its good for college football and the Pac 12. he can really do some damage out there, especially against USC.

I'm much more in favor od what's good for "football" or the "Pac-12." Uncertainty or mediocrity at UCLA benefits MIchigan greatly. We just hired a HC and OC who have been coaching in CA for a decade and that will be a target state for us (as it always has been, to some extent). The fewer other powers going after those guys, the better.

that's a good point. I didn't give that much thought. at the same time I still don't think we will pull that many Cali kids even with JH. hopefully I'm wrong and they will get 2 or 3 per class.

KLS said specifically in one of his paysite interviews that Mora leaving was one of the only things that could make him really rethink his UCLA pledge. Colin Samuel and Octavius Spencer are two commits that Steve Lorenz has brought up as being potential Harbaugh targets; obviously Mora jetting would help with them too. Also, flipping Samuel could conceivably help with Iman Marshall, they're teammates at Long Beach Poly. Looking through their class, I don't think we've ever been linked with anyone else besides Rosen, and obviously that ship has sailed.

Chip Kelly for Jim Mora....

Not sure why he'd want to head back to the NFL. Seems like he had two negative experiences as a HC there. And UCLA loves him considering he's achieved some consistency there.
I'll take KLS and Rosen if he bolts though. Maybe some others too.

Even if Mora doesn't go to the NFL this year, how many years of eligibility does he have left anyways?

You can take Mora after his post game crap last night.

I didn't watch the game but read the rabble rable on /r/cfb. Mora's argument about player safety (from the guy jumping the line when UCLA was in victory formation) is weakened by the many personal fouls his team racked up.
