NFL Network now reporting 6yr 48M offer

Submitted by Gob1ue22 on

Ian Rapport just came on NFL network saying this is UM's 2nd offer (I know, the same guy shooting down all the other Harbaugh rumors). I know this was reported earlier on the home page of the blog as a random rumor from some Arizona reporter, but this seems to be turning into more than just a rumor.

Sources: #Michigan has made another run at Jim Harbaugh after he initially rebuffed the school. U-M has made an offer of 6 years, $48M. Wow.

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) December 17, 2014

This would make Harbaugh the highest paid coach in all of football (both college & NFL) at just over 8M/year.

The fact he says Harbaugh "rebuffed" Michigan the first time is bullshit.

And the "bullshit" portion has been confirmed as such by Balas. Has been in play all along and never rebuffed M. Rap is full of garbage, and piggybacks off of other sources

How can Harbaugh turn that down? If his love for Michigan is anywhere near what it is believed to be, turning that huge of an offer down would be a giant embarrassment to UM. Think Hackett leaked to put pressure on Jim to accept?

1) Compete with the NFL dollars.
2) Put fans on notice that M out the full press on Harbaugh.
3) if Harbaugh falls through Stoops et el know M is serious about money.
4)M WAS PAYING HOKE 4 MILLION! Have to blow that number away to get a winner.

M has the money, I'm fine they are offering the moon to Harbaugh.

Whether Jim accepts the offer or not, you have to say that Hackett is AWESOME!! Definitely trying, that's fo' sho'! My former AD contact said they were prepared to make him the highest paid coach in all of football-he wasn't kidding!

This is great news for two reasons:

1. It means that an NFL team will, at best, maybe match our offer but probably not.

2. It means that douchebags like Rappaport are hedging their bets and finally admitting that Michigan is very much in play, and they are preparing themselves to eat a major helping of crow.

Was this leaked by an agent though? Since this is essentially old news for any MGoBlog reader, my guess is that the numbers aren't actually the news. I'm guessing word is spreading about Jim having genuine interest in the Michigan job, so these guys are grabbing onto the stories that are already out there.

To all of the ivory tower dwellers that guffaw at the salary number I say, the think air up there must be asking your brains. You want to win championships but aren't willing to pay the cost to be the boss? Get real. If you want to return to our days as a Rolls Royce program, you're going to have to pay for the Rolls Royce.

I'm surprised that there aren't more people here reading this the other way.  I am glad that they are going after Harbaugh with everything.  But from my interpretation of this, the leaking of this news seems to be M saying to the world, we have done everything we can do to get Jim to come home.  And he hasn't said yes.

If Jim was coming, this doesn't get leaked.  The details come out at a presser in A2 with Jim wearing a copy of Bo's New Era 5950 Block M hat.  This strikes me as the AD telling the world we were serious and we have been rebuffed.

I sincerely hope that I'm wrong.  If we get left at the altar, I'm going to more emotionally crushed than a grown man should about college kids playing football, but my confidence went from 75% and trending up today to about 25%.

I think that's reasonable, but I still don't think this is a leak of any kind. This information has been around all week. I would love to go back and see the first time someone posted the $49 million number, but I know it wasn't today. This is an old story that didn't fit the previous narrative. Maybe the people bringing us the narrative realize they had the narrative wrong, so they are grabbing old story that fits new narrative.

and of course I want him but people are finally starting to think. Now that the number isn't a rumor and he's still in SF........c'mon. We're not Maryland going nuts for the guy, we're his alma mater going nuts for the guy. He's seen this number. He's not out of SF or even given private word. That tends to = no.

Normally, I would agree.

But it's been a really bad sports year so I'm going to happily wear my maize-and-blue glasses and look at the positive side. Maybe this wasn't a leak. Maybe he _has_ given private word. Maybe his wife already put down an offer on a house the size of Angell Hall.

that maybe he has given private word. I shouldn't have assumed that and I should correct the number being leaked as if it was just an hour ago. It wasn't. I guess my overall logic points to a post I made last night: I think it would be ok or very noble of him to finish the year with SF. Yet, no later than the next day he's in or out. If this deal isn't enough to bring him back, nothing will. Time to move on. I hope he comes, btw. I have no issue with that offer if it's real.

Guys, this is not new news. This was floating around on here I think earlier this week or even last week. I know some differences on 6 or 8 years but this is just the national media catching up.

They are slowly changing the narrative to JH may consider Michigan just to avoid being total ass clowns and they are using info that has been on message boards like these for days to help their cause and act like they were first to report this
