Not trying to be combative, but the past couple Patriots drafts have been as hit-and-miss as others.  They had quite a few stinkers in the late 00's, and even now they have an okay track record.

Drafting is always a crapshoot.  The Lions aren't great at it, but few organizations (Steelers, Ravens, Packers) do it consistently well.  The Patriots just have one of the best QBs in history playing with a very disciplined and committed coach and process.  But they lose Tom Brady, I think they are a .500 team.

Belichik is a very good coach, but that team has an elite QB and, at best, average talent at most other positions (honestly, outside of their TEs I'm not sure they have better talent than the Lions, collectively, at any other position).  I'm not saying they wouldn't be a solid team without Brady, but like Manning with the Colts, he covers up for lots of their sins and limitations.

Maybe the lions learned from the Nick Fairley nonsense and decided to steer clear of those pillars of intelligence and moral responsibility in the SEC.

Fwiw, I think you guys are too down on your pick. The guy hasn't played much football, and his best days may well be ahead of him. He also probably appreciates the hell out of this opportunity since he's from Ghana.

It may not have been possible to trade, in which case there really wasn't a player I would have loved there, but I still do not think Ansah is the pick.  The guy did nothing in college; I really think college production is the most underrated measure in evaluating players...

I am not furious with the pick assuming no option to trade down was there.  Just completely unenthused.  The biggest thing to me was that I think Werner is just as good of a pick at DE as Ansah or Jordan and could be had at the end of the first or beginning of the second.

He's a boom or bust type and I think most people are rightly skeptical of a guy who was a workout warrior without much production against mediocre competition.  The name Mike Mamula comes to mind here.  It's also typical of a Lions draft philosophy that emphasizes boom potential, but doesn't seem to value risk properly.  It's frustrating and I think people would rather see the Lions just make a bunch of safe, solid picks rather than watch Mayhew esperately try to prove he's a genius.  So yeah the torch and pitchfork route is somewhat appropriate.

Yeah, I know he does and I wouldn't have loved that pick either.  A guard at 5 would have been a reach but I think both of the guards are more safe picks than Ansah and will both be solid NFL players at the least.  If no opportunity to trade down was there then the Lions really were kind of stuck in a bad position.

Star Lotulelei and Shariff Floyd. Two Raider picks later +1 and a completely different DT is taken. No one knows anything about this draft.

Benefits of having a consistent franchise philosophy is that your scouting and personnel evaluations look for the same traits so it's easy to be patient and get the best value.  It's why I wish I had some sort of reason to root for the Steelers as it would make my life much easier. Alas, I grew up a Raiders fan and live in Michigan now, so........ I'm screwed.

L-O-LIONS!  Is this a little kid stuck in a grown man's body?

What's that college football criminality championship that EDSBS does?  It seems like the Lions really want to win the professional version of that.  Over / under on weeks until this guy does something dumber than wearing 3-D glasses to the biggest night of his life?
