I cannot cheer for a team with Pete Carroll and Golden Tate. Go Niners!
NFC championship open thread
Go Seahawks because Kaepernick.
Wow what a first play
How was Aldon Smith not suspended this year? Of all the thing the NFL suspends players for you would think a DUI and illegal possession of an assault weapon would do it.
I think part of it has to do with his decision to leave the team and seek treatment on his own...at the same time he was being paid as well...so I'm surprised there was no fine at minimum (unless I missed something)
I understand that maybe for the DUI that might have played apart. But considering the Aaron Hernandez disaster an NFL player charged with illegal possesion of an assault rifle should be high up on the list of suspendable offenses. I expect he'll be suspended when he goes to trial, but it does not look good at all for the NFL having him on the field.
If the 49ers win this game I expect the media will catch on to the story.
The 49ers front office out him in rehab and suspended him. Not many NFL teams do that. Reason they did it because they want Aldon long term.
And yet he is playing after another arrest.
I have no doubt that they want Aldon Smith long-term. He's a very talented player and they have a lot invested in him.
I can't help but wonder if their motives weren't a little self-serving, though. Doesn't rehab prevent what was a certain suspension?
Good luck to him. Reading some of the charges and the story about that party is pretty frightening stuff. I hope he stays on the straight & narrow.
For the amusement of the board perhaps, that exchange of "drives", if you can call them this, resulted in a mere 3 net yards of offense combined. I found that somewhat interesting, and yes, credit the Seattle defense for keeping that to an FG.
As a Browns fan I'm pulling for Phil Dawson to do well and make the Super Bowl. He is such a class act and I'm glad (for him) he ended up with the 49ers after his 15 year stint in Hell....I mean Cleveland.
I still hold onto this fantasy that if Harbaugh wins a Super Bowl, maybe he'll be satisfied with his time in the NFL and come back to coach Michigan. Go 49ers.
I highly doubt that. He'll have been to his second super bowl. I guarantee he will want to see if he can get to 5 or so and be considered one of the best coaches ever.
I said "fantasy."
Defense dominate, offense meh.
which is interesting given all the hype the offense had at the beginning of the year.
They do have the best tight end in the game(arguably), Boldin, Crabtree, and the teams all-time rushing leader. So I wouldn't say the offense is MEH.
Above average I would say.
I realize that they have several good players but the Niners offense isn't overwhelming. Perhaps "meh" is a little harsh, but it isn't as explosive as it ought to be with that talent.
that jimmy graham is the best te (with gronk injured), and it's not really close.
Vernon Davis is faster, stronger, a better blocker, and is more versatile. So what Jimmy Graham has more receiving yards because he's targeted more? Last I checked, being a tight end involves more than catching passes. If Vernon played for the Saints, he'd probably have receiving numbers close to Graham's.
As well as Clark has played in replace of Clady I have to believe the pass rushers of both teams will test the Broncos OL severely.
Kaepernick won't last if they keep up with this type of play calling against this D.
I want none of the remaining teams to win the Super Bowl. Don't wanna see Peyton or Sherman win and I also have an irrational hatred of all sports teams from NYC and SF.
I do hate Papa Johns but for reasons I shouldn't post about on this blog.
Why not Peyton? Irrational hatred.
I dislike the 49ers, but why all SF teams. I know lots people hate NY, LA, and Boston teams.
Because I generally dislike the Bay Area and Bay Area teams have been beating my teams of late (Detroit sports fan).
I guess I kinda want the Seahawks to win it all now. Not sure why, just not Peyton and I've never liked the niners
Cheap shot by Whitner again. Head shot and launching.
here comes one of those new NFL "you hit him too hard" penalties. They cant hit high....they can't hit low...where exactly are the defenders suppose to hit?
Maybe we just go to flag football. This is crazy.
You can't hit the head. And Whitner has a history of it so he shouldn't get any benefit of the doubt.
Which, given the teams playing, is what we're gonna get. So I'll be happy.
i enjoy watching massive people collide in rocket explosions.
i would also enjoy watching gladiotors fight if that was still a thing, so take it for what it's worth.
When do we move to reviewing penalties? You have to figure that players are going to fight for that one pretty soon.
Ball don't lie in football either. Nice!
Despite what Aikman said he clearly hit him in the head. That was the right call and the teams were specifically warned before the game.
Lol you're a joke
Seattle o-line having some issues so far. If the 49ers keep sending this much pressure eventually they will get burnt deep.
Now I am rooting for: sacks, penalties, fumbles, botched snaps, as many mental errors as possible. Ugly sloppy football.
Also acceptable: A players' strike that kills the season.
LB's of the 80's.(Banks, Pepper Johnson, and LT)
The new, improved, NFL will soon look like this....
that the guy 100% behind his field of vision almost tapped him (despite zero contact)?
49ers getting all the breaks so far. 2 fumbles and they recover both of them. Can't expect that to continue.
Lamichael James just got de-cleated on that muffed punt
Damn, that guy on the 49ers sideline straight up clothes lined the seahawk...
That should be a large fine.
Lol damn. Looks like the running game is not going to happen.
didn't work on that 3rd down.
dumb penalty, he wouldn't have been close to a first down anyways.
Threet vs. Wisconsin sighting!
I make plays.
Go Colin...Go Colin!!!!!!!!
Seahawks are going to have to spy him.
He is being spied.
49ers getting all the calls for the second week in a row? He didn't look in. Looked like all the officials but one thought he was short.
GIF below of the cheap shot by one of the 49ers on the sideline.
I've watched it a couple of times but I can't really discern what happened. What am I missing?
Where the first down marker is laying down the 49er behind the one in the red jacket elbows the Seahawk in the head.
Anyone know who it was? Whoever it was will be meeting with Goodell this week. That should be suspendable at the very least. You can't pull that garbage on a guy running full speed. That's dangerous.
I watched it about 50 times. Is it the black dude in street clothes who does it? Clearly the Seahawk player goes down like he got wacked but I'm having a hard time picking out the who did it.
Yes. Though I have no idea who it is. An injured player maybe?
Suck that "12th man". Got awful quiet on my surround sound just now.
Seahawks need some points or the team/crowd is going to lose all confidence
That's a big loss for the 49ers with Iupati going down.
Denver must be enjoying this. Iupati and Baldwin both injured.
They have plenty of injury issues of their own.
Defense was kind of loafing around
Seahawks can't pass protect and Wilson has been inconsistent throwing it
I just used that exact same Dominos 50% off coupon and am stuffing my face with the benefits. Sweet.
I will be making ham & swiss paninni's at halftime. But the pizza does look good.
I can't get the thought that Jim Harbaugh's khaki pants are from Wal-Mart
Harbaugh looks ridiculous jumping up and down there like a child. It's embarassing for everyone.
Carolina came into sf during the season acting like thugs and Niners stepped down. They made it a point last week to do the same to them. I understand what your saying though... I didn't like it at all but it was more of a strategy than just being thugs.
They did not go into SF acting like thugs at all. That is a ridiculous comment.
This is funny coming from someone who is a fan of a team with Aldon Smith on the roster.
I mean no disrespect, but I'm legitimately curious. I had no idea that had happened. Is this a recent thing?
Just said the same thing to my girlfriend. I don't know if it was a bad shot and maybe he's heavily layered in clothing that just looked weird, but it caught me by surprise.
I always thought of him as a pretty fit dude, which just added to his overall "this is a scary intense guy" quotient.
Those shots didn't look like it was just the khakis, but maybe it is just layers and not fat.
he looked even bigger last game
Walmart Khakis will do that. If he bought pants with a more tailored look, he wouldn't look quite so bad. Also, the life of a football coach is a very unhealthy life.
he started letting Al Borges order his lunch/dinner
A few interesting numbers -
San Francisco has managed 128 yards of offense on 22 plays, good for 5.82 yards per snap and 0.445 points per play. Seattle has managed 126 yards on 25 plays, or 5.04 yards per snap and 0.12 points per play. Lynch is basically the entire rushing attack for Seattle - 12 carries for 33 yards, or about 2.8 yards per carry. To be fair, Kaepernick is virtually the entire San Francisco offense, accouting for 115 of their 128 yards between his arm and his legs.
Is this good D or bad offense? I think coming into it most people would say good D, but the more I watch both these teams have major issues throwing the ball.
Almost a turnover again for SF. One of these isn't going to bounce their way.
Marshawn Lynch was like hold ma diccckkkkkkkk
How did Buffalo let this guy go?
Cause they're Buffalo?
Goodwin with about 2 yards, a true dual threat.
49ers are literally getting every bounce. Unbelievable.
Marshall Lynch just scored that long touchdown on an inside zone run.
I learned that today by reading the diary from "Eye of the Tiger" on MGOBLOG
That TD was pure luck. The 49ers are getting 2012 ND luck this game.
There was literally zero luck involved in that play.
Don't hate lol
When you recover all 3 fumbles in a game (one of them illegaly) what else would you call it?
And playing FIFA.
It's not that the NFC Champ won't be good, it's that I just don't care.
Apparently Kaepernick batted the ball on the fumble. Should have been a 10 yard penalty.
Two very good football teams playing for everything Ghost. Not every play that goes SF's way is due to luck, the officials, Karma, ect.
They're actually a pretty damn good team.
They are, but recovering every single fumble is lucky. There is no way around that. That's been born out mutliple times on this blog over the last few years.
And it was NBC who pointed out that Kaepernick batted the ball. That's a call that needs to be made. It cost the Steelers earlier in the year and the Dolphins. So yeah they were very fortunate that the officials blew that call.
Yea pretty clearly kicked it out so the 2 Seattle defenders couldn't fall on it. Too bad none of the refs could see with all the conjestion.
So many Niner haters in here lol
One thing I do despise is people that use the term "hater". Everyone who doesn't like your team isn't a "hater".
Vernon Davis seems to be a magnet for getting hit. Guy seems to have bad luck.
Arrrghhh....I think I'm probably dead
How many of those clips do you have? The Gramticas used to be the best at that.
I have more. Here's how I see Euro-pussies playing soccer. Sadly I think American football is heading this way.
Refs helping Seattle all game! 5 yard penalty on hitting the plant leg is bullshit!
No doubt, eff these officials.
For the guy complaining about the refs missing calls on the 49ers. I'm pretty sure the niners got screwed on two penalties that extended the drive for Seattle. One being the "helment to helment" hit and the push out of bounds.
Despite what Aikman said the hit to the head was the right call. And neither of those plays led directly to a TD like the Kaepernick kick did. I'm sure Miami and Pittsburgh fans are none to happy about it either.
The one I'm talking about they didn't even hit his head. Whitner hit his shoulder pad. Patriot fans are probably pissed with missed PI calls. Sometimes they miss the call, I'm sure they'll miss a couple on Seattle in this game.
You're incorrect. On that helment to helment call; there was literally ZERO contact to the Seattle player's helment.
Pretty sure not.
"That intentional grounding was pure luck for the 49ers."
Harbaugh is such a douche
Thanks for the insight lol
Yeah it's pathetic. He's literally throwing tantrums on the sideline. The foot stomp while slamming your fists against your hips is a toddler-patented move.
Damn nice catch.
It looked to me like he missed it at first and it just kind of buried itself in his arm. Absolutely perfect throw.
Has turned into a hell if a game. Don't really know who is going to win at this point.
On the sidelines he is. In interviews he doesn't seem to be to me.
Kaepernick's pocket awareness just might be the worst I've ever seen.
There are plenty worse out there.
One of the few good Millen selections.
Century Link is rocking.
I wonder if the 49ers will fire Jim? May be the Lions hired their coach too soon?
They won't fire him, but he does not get along with the GM at all and has made no secret off the fact that he would consider other jobs.
Seattle's o-line is having a rough game to say the least.
Man I love watching Marshawn Lynch run the football.
Holy cow did the 49ers get screwed on that call. Bowman recovered that fumble.
Has not been a good game for the refs (its been almost a weekly theme this year(. Two blown calls that may lead to scores. They really need to expand instant replay.
That looks a bad injury for Bowman. Hate to see that.
At least they get it right.
That's bullshit it's not reviewable. I can understand you can't review possession in a scrum but where a player clearly had possession and is down by contact, you should be able to review that.
At the least he tore up most every ligament and tendon in his knee.
How on earth is that not San Fran's ball??
That's a fumble clealry. I guess the niners aren't that lucky.
That was brutal...the refs and the broken leg I mean.
I love watching the Forty-Whiners get screwed.
Oops, guess ball don't lie.
The list of things that is not reviewable is completely bizarre sometimes.
What's the reasoning behind some of them?
Broke his leg but still got the strip and recovery, and they might not even give it to him.
ball back even after taking that for his team
Why the hell is that "not reviewable?" If an obviously blown call like that is not reviewable, then what's the point of review?
These things are always the fault of the team owners who don't want it. Same thing with that red wings goal yesterday...the teams refused a request by the NHL to make that a reviewable play.
I'd have to imagine it's because they don't want to be reviewing dog pile scrums to try and sort out who had posession and when. Obviously this one was clear cut, but I think they just made a decision to exclude all fumble recoveries for review.
Dudes knee gets ripped to shreds and gets fucked with the call
That should clearly be SF football. Just ugh.
That call could decide the game. Just awful officiating.
That reminds me of Shawn Livingston and Marshon Lattimore.
A lucky break??? To soon???
Niners just got fucked
So let me see if I understand the thread. 49er player recovers fumble. In the process of recovering the fumble he gets his leg snapped in two but somehow retains possession while laying on his back.
Pretty much, although it's not clear if his leg is broken or if he just trashed his knee Mcgahee style.
do you ever stop and think, well, what kind of fucking moron put that in the rule book in the first place?
I mean, in what universe did the "tuck rule" make sense to someone? I know how. Because that person was a fucking moron, and they wrote that part of the rule book in moron-ese.
Up-voted for the "Tuck rule" mention, or in other words, "The illegitimate start to the Patriots dynasty."
fucking down-voted it, lol. I knew that was coming. Maintaining that the tuck rule is stupid =/= dissing Tom Fucking Brady. Tom Brady is unfathomably awesome and that rule was impossibly stupid.
Ball don't lie.
Well that's fitting.
first, that injury is beyond brutal. Horrifying. One of those things that makes it hard to watch football.
Second, though, and I have no rooting interest (it's the 4th quarter and I still have no idea who I want to win), but THESE OFFICIALS HAVE BEEN FUCKING BRUTAL.
I mean, G-d &^#$@.
Talk about totally fucking up a game. Congratulations to the entire officiating staff. You have fucked this game up good and special.
Between a bunch of overly officious shit, missing spots, totally blowing a few other calls, for FUCK'S SAKE, the guy's career could be over and you fucking humps could see some shit that was that fucking clear?
Fuck. I am so pissed off right now. Every one of those guys needs to be fired out of a cannon.
Well, look at that. BALL DON'T FUCKING LIE.
Still, I am just disgusted by these clowns in stripes.
but I'm intrigued by your choice of curse words. Why do you say "fuck" and "shit" but censor "god damn"?
willingness to take some liberties with the English language.
you lose the same number of brownie points on judgment day for having said god damn and G-d D@$!
just hoping for some mitigation points for the effort.
it's *very* rare that I can't figure out a rooting interest, but I truly haven't in this one, so it's been simmering quietly.
But rank incompetence over a prolonged period of time - it just grates and grates, and man, these guys have just sucked ALL DAMN GAME LONG.
I know these guys have a hard job, but there's a level of incompetence, where it's just like, come ON.
Ball don't lie
Ball don't lie. Justice
Scoop and Score there would have been awesome
Ball dont lie
Every play should be reviewable.
Ball don't lie.
After getting that lucky with the call Seattle maybe should have just taken the points and felt lucky to do so
You know that somewhere in the back of his head, Pete Carroll was thinking, "We got gifted the ball? Well, let's go for it on fourth. Ball don't lie."
I'm just saying, having a select few plays that aren't reviewable is just dumb. If everybody in the stadium and the millions sitting at home watching on tv know the call is flat out wrong, then there should be a way to get it right.
That next play was karma. Karma, bitches. Nothing will make up for losing Bowman, though..
Shitty decision and throw
Kaepernick is blowing this game
That was one of the worst throws i have ever seen
Gore, Iupati, Bowman, Harvin and now Bennett limps off. War of attrition.
Kaepernick had a great first half, but he has got to be more careful with the ball.
Since when did Devin start playing for the 49er's?
After watching the QB play in this game Denver I would think should be the betting favourite.
as good as either of these teams. Plus it will be cold in NYC. The Hawks and Niners are better equipped weather than the Broncos are.
That was nearly a monumentally stupid play by Tate.
Domers gonna dome.
Tate is a dork.
the first down - that play was crazy - he kept getting the first down and losing it.
8 yard swing.
This is a dreadful QB performance from both QBs.
This went from being a fun game between rivals to a game of, "who wants to lose more." Ugly 4th quarter.
Quite a difference from Manning and Brady.
and athletic than the two in the other game.
There's been some seriously lousy offensive play, but make no mistake, these are two sick as hell defenses. So many athletes on both defensive 11's.
Wow, FOX almost blew the most important play of the game. There must have been some crazy screaming behind the scenes.
Officiating is horrible and is helping decide games. Ticky tack pick call against Pats and Welker cracks Talib's ribs on an obvious pick with no call and drive leads to a Bronco TD. Seahawk game much worse. Blatant roughing the punter not called taking away a 49er first down and gives Seattle great field position which leads to a TD. Bowman's obvoius fumble recovery which ended up not mattering as they held on 4th down.
You are "done" with the NFL because of the officiating in that game? You must be new to sports in general.
Richard Sherman is such a fucking dick. I really don't like him.
He's Harbaugh's guy. Also that's how most people describe Boldin.
No no no. Just listen to his post game interview. Boldin doesn't do shit like that, he's just tough as hell. Sherman is a fucking a dick. Plus I thought Sherman hates Harbaugh, and Harbaugh isn't too fond of him either.
Not so sure about that. Boldin is pretty well known as one of the worst shit-talkers in the game.
Talking shit during a game is tradition pretty much. But I have never seen him do stuff like that in interviews, or at the end of games run up to players to get in their face. I have no problem with Sherman trash talking during games. It's the extra stuff he does that I don't like.
I question the playcalling there at the end, but hey...
OK, Denver vs. Seattle. Not the Superbowl I wanted to see -- I wanted the exact opposite. Oh well.
he has been really surprisingly irresponsible with the ball in the second half.
Richard Sherman is elite, but my god what a douche cake.
What a game!
amazing player, but that was no class.
Since everybody's pick early in the season both made the Super Bowl. I am Going with Denver. Don't think Seattle has the O to keep pace.
Seattle's secondary vs Manning in NYC.
I hope the Broncos win in two weeks. The idea of Pete Carroll winning a Super Bowl just disgusts me.
Sherman is a huge ass. Hate him
Someone put a helmet on his knee and put him out of the game for a little while.
This sort of thing is acceptable here now? Seriously?
Harbaugh using all the timeouts. Dick to the end.
Manning vs the Seattle DBs is going to be interesting. Denver's D to me was very impressive today.
I don't hate Seattle but I feel like the refs really shafted San Fran.
edit: Okay now I do
Shafted SF? If Seattle loses that game the Kaepernick kick gets replayed forever.
I'm imagining you said the original post immediately postgame, then like everyone else saw the Sherman postgame interview and found that you suddenly wanted the Seahawks to lose the Super Bowl
No class from that guy
What an ass
Boy, Sherman is a great face for the NFL. I'd love for my son to grow up to be one of these thugs.
This is why I hate Richard Sherman. Such a piece of garbage.
Using words like, "hate" and "piece of garbage" makes you a way worse person than Sherman did in my opinion.
Well, Sherman portrays himself that way
cool story bro.
It's football buddy. Yeah; Sherman looked like a dick in that interview. But calling him and "piece of garbage" and saying you "hate" him? Just as bush league.
Again, don't really care. The guy acts like a piece of trash his entire career. I'll call him that. Thanks for the moral lessons. You should write a book or something.
*morality lessons* Now THAT is condescending.
That's such a condescending comment. Sherman is an embarrassment.
My application of the word is accurate, so why post the definition?
I don't believe I'm being consescending at all. When some dude on a couch sees a black man get all fired up after just making a huge play on a football field and calls him a "piece of trash"; I call him out. How on earth is that condescending?
How dare you use such vicious words!
Whaaaaaat a douche.
After the game?
Richard Sherman, ugh.
What the fuck just happened in that interview? !
So- how much of a fine for Sherman there? 250k? Hate that fucking guy.
I went from wanting the winner of this game to win the Super Bowl to now wanting the Broncos after seeing Sherman's actions.
From that reaction its pretty obvious Crabtree was talking trash to get that going. Also to the person who called Sherman a thug that is low class. Might want to learn what the word actually means.
Do recall he openly taunted Brady after the Hawks beat the Pats. The guy is a jerk.
Players talk shit all the time to each other on the field. You don't talk shit about a player in a post game interview on national television.
Seattle is the team that employed Jeremy Stevens for years and had him as the face of the franchise. Dude raped a girl and beaten a "fellow" student with a baseball bat in college. Now the head Coach is Carrol.
Plus, all Seattle teams just feel like expansion teams to me. No history, fair weather fans, and obnoxious colors.
Smoke em if you got em
I want whatever that guy is on.
Carroll's teams were awash with it at USC and so are the Seahawks. That team D is awesome to watch, but there's reason to believe they are juiced to the gills.
They are playing in front of the loudest stadium in the league? Also there is absolutely no proof that Carrol's USC teams were awash with PEDs.
I get that you're a fan, but your posts have been terrible all thread long.
that make this board worse.
Running through the thread downvoting like a little girl because you can't deal with links/facts.
Grow the fuck up.
Juicing stuff coming from ?
and also in Seattle. This is not some conspiracy stuff, it's flat out fact.
and Goodall was probably pointing a gun at someone in the booth to get Sherman off the air.
At least Broadway Joe was drunk. That dude is just an ass.
but the world would be that much less funny if the Namath interview never happens.
I like Russell Wilson- great talent, lots of class. I want him to succeed. That said, I don't root for Richard Sherman. Go broncos
back to you. ...
Went to Stanford? I thought they had higher standards for their football team.
I was thinking the same thing!
I'm sure his parents are proud as well.
And great move by FOX.
You can interview Carroll, Wilson or Lynch and you put that ignorant piece of shit on camera.
Richard Sherman is exactly what his name says he is: DICK.
So I'm the only one who loved the Sherman thing? Crabtree's a bitch.
I agree. I would love to see that type of attitude from some of our players. Football is not a nice sport. Sometimes you have to be a cocky asshole. No doubt in his mind he can stick with anyone.
Peyton Manning, Gayle Sayers, and dozens of others won football games without being cocky assholes.
Deion Sanders wasn't cocky or anything.
Deion also didn't try to humiliate people. His cockiness was not confrontational.
You made the comment that some have won without being cocky ass holes. I'm just saying that some have won while being cocky ass holes. So what exactly was YOUR point?
He can PLAY like that all he wants. Sure, we all want some of that on our team.
But to act like that in an interview once the game is over is bush league. It's bullshit and it's embarassing.
If ANY of our guys did that I'd hope he was kicked off the team. PERIOD.
I don't care about the trash talk on the field, I don't care about the things that go along with the PLAY and the GAME.
But when the game is over and you're being interviewed and representing your team. Show some class.
Don't condone that ignorance.
flying around. hitting. adrenaline. .. He made the play of a lifetime. he was pumped and they put a camera in his grill to get a reaction. They got it. whatever.
Be a cocky asshole on the field. Imagine if this happened in a Little League game. You think we'd let the kids get away with behaving like this?
Exactly I'm sure Crabtree, who is the only player since 2005, to hold out said absolutely nothing. Sherman's cocky, but he is a way way better imagine for the league than Aldon Smith and his assault weapons.
Holding out before playing a down in the NFL is shitty. Don't care about how Sherman acted.
Hah, that's a good tag line for marketing: "Better than a guy with assault weapons"
I thought it was hilarious.
AWESOME!! Still laughing my ass off. I watched it 6 times and erin andrews was great! "who was talking about you? " So funny!
Awkward interview. Not very classy.
So the Super Bowl is Pete Carroll vs. Peyton Manning? Pass.
Wikipedia's Richard Sherman entry right now.
Richard Kevin Sherman (born March 30, 1988), is a piece of human garbage American football cornerback with the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football
Lock this in. So great
Some bitter niner fans I guess.
I hope Manning throws three touchdowns to receiver directly covered by Sherman
Manning will have the brains not to throw at him. Like him or not he is the best CB in the league. Kaepernick for some reason decided to go after him with the game on the line.
We shall see. I guess this will depend on the receivers beating coverage as well
And they're going to interview him again here in a minute. You watch...
