Next Years Schedule

Submitted by GRMichFan on

I know we still have our bowl game, but was looking at next years schedule for the potential night game. Brandon did say he wanted one a year.

To me the only reasonable option is October 20! What a great atmosphere to end the spartie streak at 4.

Any other options?

Not that i can see. UTL II vs MSU would be epic and I agree with you it's gonna happen. The only question will be when will the tailgate's start? That will be one insanely buzzed fanbase that's for sure......

To sparty night game bc of the long day and potential for trouble. MSU agreed. Scratch that off.

It's gonna be the Illinois game.

I was hoping this thread was about the lack of away games. I realize we play neutral vs Alabama next year but I really think playing 7-8 home games a season is a bad idea. For recruiting and future bcs rankings we should play better teams and not at home all the time. I realize the revenue of 114000 fans is tough to pass up but winning national high profile games will pay off further more IMO.

But had we won 1 more game this year on the road we would've been in the bcs already.

Granted had we beaten Iowa or MSU we wouldve been too.

I just think for M AND the BIG that playing better non-conference away games would be more beneficial for all.

The rest of our schedule was not full of world-beaters, so it wouldn't have affected the polls too much if at all. For this team, they needed those home games based on how we played on the road this year.

And I'd hate to see some of these teams improve their non-conference schedule. Minnesota lost to FCS teams for goodness sake. What benefits the conference more would be to take care of business in the bowl games.

if had help OSU to 7 or 14, we would be in the BCS already. Beating OSU was nice, but the game was far too close against a struggling 6-6 OSU (granted with all the Tats crew back for our game - but the national media overlooks that). Bottom line: to be a clear BCS bowl contender, we needed to take care of business against Iowa, and more convincingly over Ohio State.

If we played a night game against Sparty there wouldn't be a single MSU fan at the game because they'd all be passed out. One year, the MSU SigEps came to our house to party before the game. They got there at 7 am, called us all pussies for not being drunk yet, and by 1130 they were passed out in different parts of our house/lawn. That was a noon game. If the game were at night I don't know what would happen. Wo knows, maybe they'd be up by then and could go.

Playing better teams out of conference is a bad idea if you're looking to improve your BCS ranking. Its also a bad idea to lure recuits with. Recruits want to go to a winning program regardless of who you play out of conference. With strong OOC games, there's little to gain and much to lose. Really, the only way to get into a BSC game is hope you can win 10 games, and hope your conference has a good year so your rankings are boosted. Look at the SEC, they have the right idea in the BCS era -- cupcakes to start, boosted by a strong inconference schedule, and cupcakes at the end. Its the perfect way to minimize falling in the rankings.

LSU's non-conference schedule would disagree with you. There is a reason they are on the verge of getting their 3rd title in 8 years. In that span, they have scheduled OOC games against Arizona (home and away), ASU (away), Va Tech, Washington, UNC, West Virginia, Oregon, and Oregon State.

For the LSUs and Alabamas, Pac-12, ACC, and Big East teams are pretty much the equivalent of the Big Ten scheduling MAC teams. They aren't that much of a challenge to them.

The only way a Big Ten team is getting to the national championship in this era of the BCS is to go undefeated. The harder you make your OOC schedule, the harder its going to be to get in the championship game.

It appears that Saragin has a biased toward the B12 teams (and BCS schools). We can beat most, if not all, of them. We lose in the OOC strength by playing MAC teams.

LSU gets huge love for scheduling weak-@ssed PAC-10 teams. We should take the opportunity to play a home and home with 'Zona. It will be fun and we will gain some street cred.

Brian has done a wonderful job in his quest to play BCS teams in the OOC schedule. I just think that Alabama is a little too much for us right now. But what the hell........

Who is giving LSU love for the games against the Pac-12? The rankings have much more to do with how mamy loses you have, when you lost, and what your ranking was at the start of the season.

Like I said, the only way a Big Ten team is getting to the champ game is by going undefeated. A 1-loss Big Ten team is going to have an extrememly difficult time finishing in the top 2.

Also consider Alabama; they played Penn State in 2010 & will play UM in 2011. Imagine how UM will prepare during Fall Camp in 2011 when they know Alabama is the first game on the schedule compared to Western Michigan this year. I truly believe there will be a greater intensity that will spill over into the rest of the season.

The reason they're on the verge of a title is that they won those games. The system is such that big five conference teams (no Big East) need to win out to make a title game. Resume is a tiebreaker.

LSU does the same thing OSU does. They play one bigger name a year out of conference. Michigan and MSU play Notre Dame every year. It's essentially the same thing except ND isn't ever really good anymore. Personally, I'd like to play ND somewhere around 2 of every 6 years and play some intersectional home and home games in the other seasons.

However, I'd boycott the SEC until they quit oversigning and I'd do it publicly.

playing all these home games in front of our fans AND our students really sucks! It also sucks that downtown business have to endure all those crowds eating and drinking and the football program really doesn't need the money. WTF are you smoking?

The revenue. Clearly you missed my point. I was speaking about the big ten and Michigan increasing their OOC games for multiple reasons. Not so u can drive to AA to watch a game. I was speaking of the long term betterment.

I'll try to get tickets for this game. Only a 7 hour drive to Dallas for me. It will be interesting to see how the team improves up through the bowl practices, next spring and summer camp. I'm excited to see how our team will measure up to the AL defense. We got a shot at pulling out the victory!

Next years schedule is brutally tough. Away games to Ohio, Nebraska, ND, Neutral site with Alabama. I think we need every home game we can get. Our SOS next year will be higher than this years, likely highest in the B10, No reason to complain.

I am really pumped for the Bama' game, its right up the road from me. I am hoping the Wolverines can pull out a "W" against them. What do you guys think our chances of winning that game next year? I know that Bama' is going to lose a bunch off their roster next year.

I am really sick of the SEC nut swingers I am surrounded by and thier trash talking and lack of respect for anything that isnt SEC. It has gotten really old here latley.

The key will be opening-game jitters/rust. Whoever makes the fewest mistakes will take it, I'm just not sure we'll be far enough along to take down Alabama. I'm also not sure how many players they lose next year, if they lose some on defense and don't have a home run hitter at an offensive skill position, it could be possible

I thought they were starting him at corner? Regardless, highly doubtful a redshirt freshman coming off a ligament tear wins the starting job at Alabama for their first game. It will likely be sophomore Eddie Lacy, who's rushing for 7.5 ypc this year.

Even though Bama is going to lose talent to the pros, they still have plently (thanks to oersigning) behind it. And with our losses on defense, its going to be really hard to stop them. Wouldn't be surprised if we opened up a 10pt dog in that game. Its going to take a lot of things going our way to pull out a W.

Brandon has already stated that it won't be MSU. With Air Force, UMass, Illinois as the other non-Nov home games, I'll guess no night game next year.

Will probably take a year off and have ND in 13 and PSU in 14. Would be nice if we could get the Nebraska game moved up earlier in the later years.

Probably not posted or even decided, but does anyone know the date of the Spring Game? Planning a family trip to see grandma and if I could start or end the trip in Ann Arbor, it would be tremendous.
