Next Commit?

Submitted by marti221 on

Shane Morris is talking with 4* WR Marcell Ateman. He (@itsmarcell) said he plans to make his decision next. Could this mean next commitment to team 134 by any chance?

context of the statement, there really is no way to know. Has he even made a visit to Michigan yet? Next could be in relationship to any number of things.

Another TX WR - Quan Jones - committed to Baylor a few hours ago.  They are somewhat close on twitter.  Ateman pretty much just replied that he's 'next' in the sense that he's going after Quan.  In a twitter convo with another recruit, he was asked if he had a favorite and he responded that he did not.  He was retweeting a bunch of stuff from Tennessee fans, Michigan fans, and Baylor fans it seemed though.  Who knows...he could have had fun with Shane over the weekend, but I feel like 'next' meant something different in this context than 'soon'.

I'm not that old, but trust me these kids are well aware.  If they had any kind of problem with it, they could go private or just delete their account all together.  Twitter is a platform for these kids.  Also it takes about 3 mins to scan a twitter page and figure out what's going on.

I'm limited right now, as I'm on my phone, but the Team 134 Twitter retweet him saying "@134_team: #TEAM134 RT @ItsMarcell: About to make my decision next I guess...loll".

Shane Morris replied to his original tweed saying "@S_Morris12: @ItsMarcell .......... :D" (as a note, him and Shane hung out at the elite 11 camp)

His twitter seems to have exploded with his tweets and responses from fans of all teams in on his recruitment, and I'm seeing a fair amount of #goblue tweets. However, he hasn't visited campus yet, which never bodes well for getting a commitment.

Retweets are not useful reads into the psyches of twittering recruits.  Treadwell will routinely post an OSU retweet followed by a UM retweet followed by an Auburn retweet.  As I said above, Ateman was retweeting stuff from multiple fan bases.  Retweeting is basically saying 'check out what this other dudes opinion is'.  Actual, original tweets are more telling like Kugler's the night before he committed.  The 'Team 134' tweet by Treadwell was a good sign IMO.  Each individual recruit will have their own pattern of tweeting depending on wether they keep it close (Isaac) or like to tease (Treadwell)...it becomes somewhat obvious when news is going down when they break the pattern.

After living through approximately two years of this twitter phenomenon I think it can be concluded that things said on twitter typically don't have any REAL meaning or importance (save the Pakistani dude who live tweeted the bin laden raid). Twitter: the best communication tool to communicate relatively little.

This is easily one of the creppier/overdone recruit threads I've seen in a while.

Not to push Treadwell, but he better not take Sugar Shane's recruiting skills too lightly. You want in on Team 134? Think about it hard and fast. 8 spots left.

Most of us who "follow recruiting" on twitter just follow a bunch of media types and recruiting ninjas.  These people, in turn, follow all the recruits and targets.  When somethingn interesting gets said by a recruit or target, a recruiting ninja or media type will retweet it.  At this point, someone like me will be able to read it.  Sometimes I will then click on the twitter page of the recruit or target to see if there's anything to that tweet.  This all occurs only when I'm super bored.

I only follow a handful of these kids and I only do so when they specificially ASK for followers. It's not worth having twitter if you don't follow things you are interested in.  Obviously I'm interesed in recruiting.

It's fine if you don't understand twitter, but please don't judge people just because you are ignorant.  Thanks much.

The people that are ignorant are the ones overusing the term 'creepy'.  Not understanding twitter is one thing, but combining that with assumptions that those of us that follow recruiting on twitter are essentially stalking these kids is ignorant.

There are ways to be creepy on twitter and even moreso on facebook (I do not use this for anything recruiting or football related...just actual people I know), but it is pretty easy to deliniate where that boundary is.  I avoid contacting recruits, and as I said above I only follow those that specifically ask to be followed and which I have an interest in following.

Twitter is a public forum for people.  Unless you are one of the few who maintain a privacy control (very few), everything you tweet can be pulled up in a search.  It is up to the user to determine what they consider public enough to tweet.

Sorry if any thought I was calling them ignorant for just not understanding twitter.
