Pete Carrol is telling him that he'll be used as a tailback and wildcat quarterback there...looks like he is looking at richrod's offense as a potential alternative. Just sounds like a great all-around athlete that could be used in a number of ways. Looks like he's somewhere in between Tate Forcier and Justin Fargas on tape.
News that was reported a couple hours ago...
You don't turn down talent
we have the defense that we do and the commitments/depth we already have at that position.
tate, denard, gardner, cornelious
shaw, cox, toussant, white, hopkins.
unless this guy plays mlb or safety, i dont want him.
Wasn't there some rumblings that Conelius would be moved to DB? I think if that is the case that we need another QB. Also, if a guy comes in and practices well offensively he makes the guys he is going up against on defense better defensively. UM needs talent, we are not in the position to turn down 4 star recruits.
so does rodriguez call you weekly for a scholarship allowance, what with your veto power of not wanting him?
jones is not coming in at qb
apparently right after he called you to tell you that jones isnt coming in at qb.
which, you know, is your opinion, man. just like that was my opinion. but thanks for that.
... except multiple news sources have said he was recruited and being brought into Michigan as a defensive back...
here's just one example
There is a beverage here man.
So I guess if Stills decides to commit we should tell him no as well since we have plenty of receivers?
We've got Devin Gardner and Tate Forcier, we're set for a while. Although, we still have 3 years of eligability left for Kovacs, so that frees us up to get more offense!!![think BEFORE you respond to this]
Very unlikely to happen but what if a couple of these highly rated offensive longshots want to commit to Michigan? Will Rich Rod's love of offense take a backseat to the harsh reality of defensive need?
What if it comes down to picking between a good/great offensive player and an above average/good defensive player?
The number of available scholarships are dwindling. Obviously, this problem is better than having no options, but I'm interested to see how RR handles it.
It would be nice to stick it to that DB Pete Carrol.
What's your deal?
Jealousy is a petty thing.
What's YOUR deal?
Carrol a DB? because his team's are ridiculous like every year?
No Jim Harbaugh is A DB. Running up the score on USC, yeah good thinking. EXCEPT for the fact that USC has everyone returning next year and they are gonna blast Stanford, I hate Harbaugh so sorry
Was anybody else reminded of when Woody went for 2 against us when he didn't need to...and when a reporter asked why, woody responded with "cause I couldn't go for 3" Maybe it's just me since my parents r OSU fans and remind me of that line a lot. I just thought that Harbaugh did a similar thing
I don't think USC has had a rivalry team in many years on a consistent basis. It seems to me that JH was trying to kick them in the balls publicly to get a rivalry started. It could only mean good things for his program to be thought of at the same time as USC.
That's MY conspiracy theory.
I think it was a GREAT move by Harbaugh.
Given the current state of our secondary, right I'd take just about any DB.
UPDATE: Except Chris Richards. That guy was a douchebag.
Can Carroll play corner and safety? If so, maybe we should offer him a scholarship.
the other day I was just putting the finishing touches on a lengthy diary full of existential ruminations, Hamlet references, and a picture of Steve Carell, but then I go to post it, and what do I see?
idk why this guy is getting negged so much (and i'm probably going to for mentioning it), but carrol has been coming into detroit and stealing uofm recruits for a long time...perry, rojo, tried to with campbell and teric jones...it would be nice to steal one of his for a change.
"Douchebag" and "good" are not necessarily the same thing...
I would prefer defense, can he play DB or LB?
per rivals he is the #1 all purpose back. i believe we would make room
Talent is talent, you can never have too much depth.
Also, this is here.....
What was the possible violation in the thread? (so it won't be repeated).
It wasn't anything that anyone on here did. I'll just say that.
I'll tippy toe around the issue for you - some our our players (actually, just one) has no discretion about what he posts on facebook.
It had nothing to do with a posters action.
At least, if I understood it correctly.
interesting...hopefully someone can fill us all in later on.
Trust me, this one is about as un-juicy as it gets. You'd probably be like "uhh, WTF."
I think the biggest question is when are we going to suspend the facebook accounts of kids who don't seem to understand its power.
I don't see how it was a recruiting violation. Is he not allowed to mention a recruit by name?
I have no clue. It seems INCREDIBLY minor. In fact, it may have even been something else...? Either way ... "Nothing to see here, FreeP!"
who is this thread even about? Who is pete carrol referring to?
Fascinating thread. There have been 19 posts so far discussing this recruit, and yet no one has actually mentioned him by name. (I know who it is, just noting this.)
A certain QB made a certain post about certain recruits coming to a certain game on a certain third saturday in a certain eleventh month of the year.
Apparently, this violates some rule.
Are you certain?
I get that there are recruiting rules, but come on...the kids are friends. He's posting that his friends are coming to visit him at school and maybe take in a football game. Is that really so bad? Kids post that kind of stuff all day everyday. These rules have got to change eventually to take this newfangled technology into account.
now i got it. it just came full circle. and yes with the, but we need defense gripes...and yes to the 'but you dont turn down talent' argument as well.
So can someone tell me what this thread is about?
Someone said something about someonoe else, and where this certain someone may or may not be visiting on a certain day possibly in the near future that may or not be 4 days from now, on a certain social network site that is commonly used by other people in his demographic group. This certain something which was said probably shouldn't have been and thus likely should be kept a secret. (sh!)
In all honesty I think this thread and the other one should be deleted from the board altogether.
The way the internet, and rumor-mongering, and human nature in general works, the secrecy only creates buzz and makes people more curious. If there's nothing here to spark their curiosity, problem averted. Nip it in the bud. I usually like free speech and wouldn't advocate something like this, but based on what Brian said in the other post on the other thread, I think it should be done in this case. The last thing the program needs is another shitstorm created by something that is probably nothing being turned into something big.
Just my $0.02
RoJo is not an example of Carroll coming into Detroit and stealing recruits. RoJo is from Muskegon, which isn't near Detroit. That's like saying Michigan went into San Francisco to steal Tate Forcier.
How does he not know where Muskegon is? It's not near Detroit, Lake Michigan is kind of far away.
Newspapers have reported that Cornelius Jones is being recruited as a defensive back.
Recruiting websites have long held that Jones committed as a quarterback.
I trust recruiting websites more than I trust newspapers.
because national sites like rivals and scout are going to be more directly in contact with the players and their coaches than, say, the shitty local newspaper who has to get by through exhausting these avenues of close contact.
I've seen several cases where local newspapers have no clue what's going on with their local teams. Not only do people like Josh Helmholdt (Rivals) have contact with recruits, but they also have "inside sources" within the Michigan athletic department. On top of that, they're just flat-out better at scouting players and knowing whether he can play quarterback or safety or linebacker or receiver.
