So....this ain't good.
Team source: "people at Schembechler are freaking out right now." Says decision on potential postponement/new site should come Thursday.

Or it would be like announcing a crowd of 100,000+ when there are clearly 20,000 empty seats. Oh wait.
September 30th, 2015 at 5:00 PM ^
Too soon.
September 30th, 2015 at 6:13 PM ^
If someone were to give you crap about Michigan's 100k streak being over due to a home game being announced literally two days in advance of it being played just give them this look and go on with your life
September 30th, 2015 at 4:16 PM ^
If it wasn't 100k there's no way M would count it towards the streak. It's more like letting EMU use some venue after an emergency than a Michigan home game.
September 30th, 2015 at 4:20 PM ^
Maybe they could move the game to Rynearson?
September 30th, 2015 at 4:26 PM ^
That's why I said I doubt it happens. I'm just saying what I heard. I don't believe it.
September 30th, 2015 at 4:05 PM ^
I'd love that but it seems less likely than just a stadium closer by -- maybe a domed one. But having no knowledge of that area or NFL stadiums I wouldn't know if that was even possible. Though, I would totally enjoy another random home game.
September 30th, 2015 at 4:15 PM ^
There are no domes around here (DC area). And all the close-by NFL stadiums are under the same threat: DC, Balt, Philly, NY.
The closest safe stadiums of any size are Penn State or Pitt / Pittsburgh.
Penn State is using theirs at noon (double-header anyone?). Pitt's is free on Saturday.
September 30th, 2015 at 4:17 PM ^
Just clear a bunch of seats out of the Verizon Center. No problem.
September 30th, 2015 at 10:56 PM ^
No reason the boys can't play by Arena Football rules (and in an arena), for just one week.
September 30th, 2015 at 4:26 PM ^
The Steelers have a home game Thursday night though. Considering that Heinz Field is notorious for having one of the worst playing surfaces in the NFL, they may not be able to turn it around for another game Saturday.
September 30th, 2015 at 4:28 PM ^
They could also play in Morgantown, which is about a 3.5 hour drive from DC. WVU is at Oklahoma on Saturday, the stadium seats about 60k.
September 30th, 2015 at 6:11 PM ^
UVA is even closer and far enough west to be out of the hurricane path.
September 30th, 2015 at 4:49 PM ^
write Obama, tell him to get more domes in D.C. area.
September 30th, 2015 at 3:57 PM ^
Ford Field, Saturday night. It's the Football Affected By Natural Disaster location of choice.
September 30th, 2015 at 4:00 PM ^
Haha thought this earlier
September 30th, 2015 at 3:57 PM ^
Play it at Glick.

Ford Field

If they move the location, they serious screw over their fans who have made travel plans

Weather is a risk you take whenever you plan to travel. Airlines are all currently allowing you to change your plans or cancel without charging change fees, like they do whenever there's a hurricane.
September 30th, 2015 at 4:04 PM ^
I've travelled a lot, and this is the first time where it might be the sole reason I'm going somewhere is unaccessible due to bad weather. This isn't a 'oh well, it's raining a lot issue', or even a 'oh well, I'll postpone a few days' issue. If they move it out if the DC area, that's a whole different ball game.

I guess growing up in South Florida you get used to dealing with weather messing with plans. And there was that time I had to miss a week of work because I got stuck in nyc after a blizzard.
September 30th, 2015 at 4:38 PM ^
Weather is always a factor when you travel, yes. But usually it's a factor in whether or not you get to your destination on time. Possibly in this scenario, people arrive at their destination, and due to weather the main attraction has gone elsewhere.
September 30th, 2015 at 4:03 PM ^
Quite frankly, the weather is going to screw over a lot of those travel plans already. I live less than 5 miles from the stadium, and we already had some flooding issues last night with about 3 inches of rain. Some forecasts are calling for double that Friday and Saturday. They're being smart to announce a change now in time for people to not travel to an area that could be under a state of emergency before the weekend is out.
September 30th, 2015 at 4:12 PM ^
Exactly, sometime tomorrow will be state of emergency for many cities and states up and down the coast. Then they start shutting public transporation down after Friday night. Unless this thing changes course abruptly, nobody's flying out of DC Sunday. I am sure they are freaked out about that. Moving to noon is only option.
September 30th, 2015 at 4:20 PM ^
Once you are required to move the game time, there aren't many rules they have to obey.
9 am is an option. Friday afternoon or evening are options. Because it's BTN, there is probably even a push by the network to make it one of those times (because they already have a football telecast scheduled for noon).
September 30th, 2015 at 4:26 PM ^
They have access to them all day on saturday, but only on saturdays.
September 30th, 2015 at 4:32 PM ^
But they would have to open that extra game channel and disrupt their original schedule. That's do-able, but I would imagine that they wouldn't mind having a Friday night telecast or a Saturday morning telecast that doesn't force them to split their audience.
September 30th, 2015 at 4:22 PM ^
I thought they would do, and perhaps even send out a public service announcement that says "don't come to this game." But why would people at Schembechler hall be freaking out about that?
September 30th, 2015 at 4:30 PM ^
I have college friends in the DC area and we are having a reunion for the game. This will be the first time I see them in a couple years. I'm not gonna be a happy camper if this game is moved.

Basically in the same boat here

Does BOX House happen to refer to a residence in East Lansing?
September 30th, 2015 at 8:34 PM ^
I'm assuming it refers to BOX house on state street.
September 30th, 2015 at 3:58 PM ^
Are they worried about being able to fly in and out in that weather?
September 30th, 2015 at 5:53 PM ^
It's the flying out part that is the problem. There's no way the authorities want thousands of Michigan fans stranded in the area or at the airport on Sunday.
Even now, it's hard to imagine there are many available seats on flights out Saturday afternoon/evening. So I'm not sure a noon game time would solve the problem, since people might still be unable to get home after the game.
September 30th, 2015 at 6:55 PM ^
I'm not sure the league or the authorities are particularly concerned about people getting stranded. If the weather turns as bad as they are saying it might, tens of thousands of people are going to be stranded in D.C. anyway. It's almost a wash and I kind of doubt the B1G cares.

Hurricane Joaquin has already caused BTN Football Pregame from outside Byrd Stadium to be cancelled.

Silver dome. She cleans up nice

Every seat comes with a free Teflon towel.
September 30th, 2015 at 4:00 PM ^
I have to fly to Boston tomorrow, back to AA Friday, out to Baltimore Sat, back to AA Sunday. It sounds like there is about 0% chance of that happening without suffering and if I get there there may still be no game. If they are going to mess with it they had better do it tomorrow.
September 30th, 2015 at 4:00 PM ^
Pittsburgh is a nice middle ground. Good city, Steelers play Thursday and Pitt is away. Let's do it.

Wrong shade of yellow. Deal breaker.
September 30th, 2015 at 5:03 PM ^
Probably closer than it used to be.
September 30th, 2015 at 4:25 PM ^
Heinz Field has one of the worst fields, if not the worst, in the NFL. If they play a game on Thursday, our game two days later will be on a joke of a field.
September 30th, 2015 at 4:02 PM ^
I noted that Saturday night departure flights will be on time. Its the Sunday flights that will be tricky.
A midnight departure will only have rain to deal with. Sunday will bring the heavier stuff with high winds.
September 30th, 2015 at 4:21 PM ^
It's an 8:00 game. It won't end until midnight. You could not get to any local airport - DCA, BWI, IAD - before 1:00 AM. They don't have any 2:00 AM flights.
So every flight out of the game is going to be a Sunday flight if they don't change the time of the game.
September 30th, 2015 at 5:11 PM ^
I wonder if Hackett would charter a flight to leave at 2am to get the guys home?
September 30th, 2015 at 6:13 PM ^
And 20,000 of their fans too.
