Not lovin' the socks.  Still LOVIN' the one-color numbers more than anything else.

One thing is certain-- Adidas will be rooting for M perhaps more than us.  Look what's happened with Denard's UTL jersey.  Had we not come back those things would've been on the street for $9.97 during Art Fair... now they've sold like hotcakes all summer.

On a side note, I took my boy to McDonald's for breakfast this summer, and guess what I didn't see a single person buy, even though they were right there on the menu....?

It's ONE game. It's in Dallas, Texas.

I personally don't care.

As long as we're not wearing scarlett and gray (or grey, always get that confused)...or green and white, I really couldn't care less.

Most people including myself hated the YTL jersey when they where revealed. They grew on me a little bit and I no longer hated them. These I like tho and i'll definately buy one

Can anybody explain how this is different from the still photos of a day ago?

Is anybody truly happy that this is the uniform that much of the nation will see us in, for the feature game of the first big weekend of college football?

It wasn't my idea, but it was a good one:  what a perfect game this would have been, to feature both teams in their (traditional) home uniforms.  That would have been interesting.  That would have been a statement.  That would have represented innovative college football presentation.

And I'll ask this again as well; what are the details, on how much the Athletic Department really realizes, with these 'commemorative' uniform changes?  How much dough are we really making, off the dilution (however minor) of the Michigan brand in this fashion?

These uniforms to me will always be the "Sparty look" away jerseys:

Adidas made ours the way Nike should have made MSU's. Love the block M on the shoulder. Plus, Maize, White, and Blue are just a better color scheme (minus the blue on these i suppose).

The still photos feature a very awkward pose and camera angle made even more awkward by some elementary photoshopping.

For me, at least, the video provides a much better perspective and realistic representation of what the uniform will look like, and I think it looks cooler.

Why couldn't both teams wear their Home jersey's?  It would look amazing, to see two teams with such tradition in two of the most classic home uniforms in all of football.  Instead, we look like some cheezy West Virginia clearance rack item.

Dislike them strongly.

1. Sugar Bowl Unis

2. UTL

3. These

4. Bumblebees.

The maize on the shoulder looks hideous, the gloves and socks are awful...this is just disappointing.

I'm with Section 1, should have paid a fucking fine and trotted out the blues against Alabama's reds, like USC did a few years back against UCLA.

Terrible uniform.

The only thing redeemable about the whole uni is the helmet.

I'm not a fan of the constant uniform change.  As someone said last night, USC, Texas and Bama don't do this shit.  We're the winningest program in history by wins and by pct.  We don't have a sportswear manufacturer in our back pocket and we have the largest freakin' stadium in the country.

WE DON'T NEED THIS EMBARRASSING CRAP!!!

THIS IS MICHIGAN FERGODSAKES - Brady Hoke

Enough with the cheesy uniforms.

Oh, and by the way...............................................................GET OFF MY LAWN!!!!!

At first glance they're almost good.  All the 'Maizes' match and I really like the "M" on the shoulders along with the plain blue numbers.  But then wtf were they thinking with those gloves, or the socks?  And that stripe across the shoulders could've just been LEFT WHITE and it would've been brilliant.  Someone clearly started with the right idea this time (unlike the UTL or Bumblebee jerseys), but then they had to go and ruin it...  :(

And I couldn't give two dumps about my lawn;  I'm 23, I rent.

I didn't mind them before, but now I really do like them. I look at it like this folks:

The colors and the helmet are tradition and cannot be touched, the Uni design? There's only so many ways to arrange two numbers and a name on a shirt. Gotta play with this stuff if you ever want a new product. I'm cool with it.

Right.

And they should be able to figure out a way to seamlessly integrate the color scheme so it looks cool and yet nostalgic.

We have some X-Games gloves and socks and a giant maize splotch on the shoulders.

This is not a good jersey. Especially if the point was to make something special for such a big game.

I'm looking throuh the changes in away jerseys through the years and there have been many many iterations of it dating back many many years.

So my question for people who are crying tradition needs to be preserved is WHAT TRADITION? There is no tradition with the away jerseys.  It's not like the away jerseys have never been altered.

Michigan was always up there with schools like USC and Penn State (though I hate mentioning anything PSU now) as being football uniforms you don't screw with.

I know this is a fad in college football that I'm just going to have to get used to.  But I always liked the whole, "If it's not broke, don't fix it," thing.

Can we bookmark this post (and Brian's take from last year)? Because whenever somebody tries to justify the uniformz with "Oh it's only the away jersey, and that's changed all the time", I want to shake them silly. Changing sleeve size and adding a bar for a decade or two =/= changing it all the time

Call me a de-generate but I'm not a fan of either of those styles.   My favorite away uniform is probably the last iteration of nike that we wore with the very subtle maize piping.  I don't mind the hip accents on the current adidas ones we have, i just wish the piping and number borders were more subtle.

I've always thought that for a two-year stretch, the Game should feature both teams wearing their home jerseys. There is absolutely no better venue to show off two admittedly classic uniforms (no matter if theirs make me vomit a little). Alabama's all fine and good to use home uniforms for, but it's small potatoes compared to the Ohio game.

Which brings me to a different thought: I can't understand for the life of me why we're so in awe of the idea of playing Bama. I get that they're good but I can't help feeling that we're feeling this resentful inferiority complex just because they've won championships as of late. Taking the High Road on oversigning is great, and I agree with it. But when we boast about it and dismiss victories because "we do things the right way", it just smacks to me of a sort of "slave morality". It sounds like something Little Brother would try to claim (even though in this case, we're actually right).

We do things the right way, and moreover, win or lose, we'll prove it on the field in a little over a month.

and am going to guess that you meant to write "slave mentality."  Then again, I'm not fluid in Bolivian.

ChopBlock

"Slave Morality" is a term shamelessly copped from Nietzsche's work. It basically means that someone feels weak and powerless, so instead of simply doing what they want and not caring what other people think, they resort to some sort of "morality" that supposedly governs all people. That way, when they get beaten down by the powerful, they can still take comfort in the fact that they're somehow "better" than the ones who just smacked them down

TL;DR: We pound our chests about taking the high road on oversigning and general ethical sketchiness because it makes us feel superior even though we're terrified of Bama. It's a loser's mentality.

[EDIT: not saying here that we should be like Bama. Just saying that we shouldn't use it as a crutch to soften the hurt of an expected loss]

what do you people not get about these being a single game jersey?!?!  you act like this is the end of the world, that all tradition is lost.. jeeeeeeesus.

I was at the MSU game where they threw out those bronze uni's that all my friends (state alums) hated before the game.. then guess what, when it started and they saw how hyped the players and fans got out of them they were fine with it.  Motivation is a powerful tool, and if it equates to our players not only liking them, but using it as motivation to play better when we have dumb fuckers getting DUIs and stealing laptops which is 100x more terrible in the nations perception of us... than I AM ALL IN.

And for anyone saying "we are not Oregon" STFU.. you're right, our team hasn't been the most media covered team in America and gone to 2 of the last 3 rose bowls and a BCS title game.  We we're down in the gutter for 3 years and now we're back, cut Dave Brandon some slack..

Lionsfan

July 26th, 2012 at 1:49 AM ^

You're right, it was supposed to be a one-game thing....that started with UTL. And then it was, oh well we might as well bust out the away versions, and why not make a Sugar Bowl one too? People are upset because with this addition, we've now worn 6 (technically 7) different jerseys for 14 games now. Throw in another "special" Bowl uniformz, and yeah, people are gonna be a little angry

mushroomX3

July 26th, 2012 at 2:20 AM ^

Brady Hoke doesn't care about your opinion on uniforms.

He has said this on WTKA when asked about alt uniforms. He consuted with the team and the team and recruits like it.

So yea, I don't think Brady Hoke cares that a bunch of older white dudes are gonna get angry. #sorry

And let's not exaggerate. We didn't turn into oregon with the insane amount of color changes etc. we had 3 real alt uniforms over 2 years. UTL game, MSU game, and Ala game.

Is the bowl game vs VTECH really a alternative jersey? it was just a few strips added. It's not like we didn't have strips on our away jerseys in the 70s and 80s. Compare that to the changes Oregon has made. it's absolutely nothing and pretty minor.

KKisBlue4Life

July 26th, 2012 at 2:30 AM ^

it was suppose to be a one game thing... and then that one game turned out to be undeniably one of the most exciting/memorable games in Michigan Football history.  I didnt agree with busting them out on the road vs MSU but they wanted to keep the ball rolling and we had been embarrassed by little bro for the last 3 years.  Anything that helps the team on the road in hostile territory I am ok with.  I'm embarrassed that so many Michigan supporters on here are bashing these, be a supporter and support the team however they decide to play or look.

and btw, you can't really count the ones we always wear in a statistic about running up the count... you have to have 2 no matter what.  This will be the 4th alternate, who cares.. we're 1 season removed from being the laughing stock of college football.  I don't care if they wear pink tutu's if they put up W's...

Whatever. I'm 40 and I don't hate these uniforms.  The clown suits worn last year vs ND and MSU?  Terrible.  These are fine.  I actually wouldn't mind if these were our road unis for the whole year.
