New Uniform Hot Takes

Submitted by LJ on

Thoughts on the new digs?  I was skpetical when they were announced, but I actually think it's my favorite road kit since the early 2000s.  The stripes provide enough color, the helmets pop out against the all-white, and the maize was just right.

This is blasphemy around these parts, but...well done Adidas!

The dark maize looks like WVU or Iowa. Just terrible. There is no "correct" shade of maize. If anything the highlighter maize pops much more on television and looks a lot better. The dark maize was awful. And Michigan should always be in miaze pants. Not a fan of these away jerseys at all. Hope they are gone next year.

What does this even mean? You think they had the color options 40 years ago they do now? Good god stop living in the past. Bo this Bo that. Bo's dead people.

True.  We don't to be just another Cal / WVU / Toledo clone.  Michigan's traditional bright maize on it's athletic uniforms is unique to Michigan.

I was in Rome and I saw a guy from the back in a polo shirt with trim that I recognized as the Michigan "maize".  I yelled out "Go Blue!" and he turned around and responded "Go Blue!".  In Rome.  Italy.

Try doing something like that if you are Cal / WVU / Toledo / etc.

I was skeptical about the all-white road unis, even if they are throwbacks, but they looked pretty good to me last night. Still prefer the maize pants, but this look worked for me and I don't mind it being part of the rotation.

I was skeptical as well but I really loved them. They looked fresh and felt like a restart for the new era. Also, I know we love the maize color conversation, but I thought the maize on the helmet was definitley darker than before.

I like the all white, but I'd prefer a little brighter "maize", not the highlighter yellow, but still brighter.

honors Coach Harbaugh's nostsalgia for the teams he remembers from his youth while his dad was coaching, etc. If he's doing this as a one-time "my inaugural season" special then I'm 100% all for it.

I believe in an interview he said it could be a 1-2 year thing. I'm hoping it's not, and not a long-term thing either.

I'm sure Michael Jordan will talk some sense into him.

And I thought they did a good job of matching up the maize on the helmets and the stripes on the uniforms.  I liked the white pants far more than I thought I would, and the maize stripe on the jersey stood out more than I expected.

That being said I feel like we have now overcompensated for highlighter "maize" and have adopted Iowa gold.  I hate the highligher yellow, but I'm not a big fan of this new Iowa color we have on our helmets this year either.   Seems like there needs to be middle ground somewhere.

It looked a bit better to me once the lights came on, but under sunlight it looked too stucco-orangish compared to anything Michigan has worn in the past 30 years.  Maybe this was the color we wore back in the 70's when they were supposedly painting our helmets with the Green Bay Packer's gold color.

Say that since I'm anti-adidas I can't agree with the well done comments there, good job Jim and Jim.

The helmets popped. The black shoes were awesome, so glad to not see the yellow shoes out there, I hated those.

Numbers looked good on the jerseys with the all  blue actually, but would still be a big fan of a maize outline on those.

I'm hopeful that in future years they will revive some road uni's of the past. Maybe transition to the Harbaugh uni's of past, same top with maize pants, and then go to the Tom Brady's for a while and never revisit the Tate Forcier aways.

People usually just folow whatever the first couple of responses are. If you read the whole thread you would see many don't like these. Michigan should always be in maize pants. Period.

And hopefully next year the maize won't look like some WVU knock off.

LOVED them!!

Go figure Adidas does their best work by far in their lame duck year.

Best road unis I've seen us wear in a long long time.

My only quibble is I do prefer michigan spelled out, to the block m, on the helmet bumper.

My verdict: Love--LOVE--the jerseys and I hope Nike sticks with something similar for our roadies. Blue numbers, no maize outline. Sharp and perfect. The sleeve stripe pattern is good, too.

Now the pants...in and of themselves, they're as great looking as the jersey. And I do like the all-white look...but, I don't like it nearly as much I do maize pants, and I can't help but think how good these new jerseys would look paired with pants in the new (old) darker shade of maize.

I'm glad we indulged Harbs' nostalgia for one season, but I hope to see white jersey/maize pants again next year.

I thought they were awesome. The strip on the pants and the blue numbers looked sharp with the winged helmet on top. I was skeptical when it was announced they'd wear them, but they pull it off.

This fanbase will like damn near anything. The uniforms looked old and ugly. Not sharp at all. Michigan should never wear white pants. Always maize. And can we bring back the lighter shade of maize? They look like WVU out there. Gross.
