New tackle possibility? (aka A New Hope)

Submitted by James Burrill Angell on
This afternoon Sam Webb posted an article on Scout indicating that Michigan may now be taking a harder look at offering at Concord (CA) Clayton Valley 4 star OT Jalen McKenzie. Article indicates he's been looking for an offer but hasn't received yet. Anyone know anything about him? Didn't see him on swimming lanes or ever really heard his name.

Does he like snow, elite coaching, and challenging classwork? Also equally important, does he dislike money, babes, cars, bling, fake classes, competing for the National Championship, and coaches that won't look the other way when you do something stupid?

I believe the prevailing theory is that Kirby Smart took a page out of Harbaugh's book and offered one or more of Isaiah Wilson's HS coaches a position on UGA's staff if Wilson went there. It would be kind of hard to be upset if true since... Devin Bush Sr. (Devin Bush Jr.), Gwen Bush (Wayne Lyons), and Chris Partridge (Rashan Gary).

For one, Gwen Bush has proven to be far more valuable than just being Wayne Lyon's Mom. According to Sam Webb she was very important working with the moms in the recruitment of Rashan Gary, Ambry Thomas, DPJ, and possibly Aubrey Solomon.

Two, Chris Partridge was involved (with Jay Harbaugh and Don Brown respectively) with two units, special teams and linebackers that either continued performing at a high level or greatly improved in nearly all facets. Partridge has also been a successful recruiter with more than just Paramus/NJ kids.

In short, these people proved they more than have what it takes to do the job they were hired for beyond just being an easy way to get their main kid.

I don't know if Kirby Smart hired the next Chris Partridge in Wilson's coach but it's pretty weak to imply that Partridge was only hired to get Rashan Gary.

Maybe you should give these guys two years to prove themselves, then, if you're going to criticize Georgia for hiring people who have two fewer years of experience than Partridge. Your logic is rather flawed. When Michigan hired Bush and Partridge, they didn't have this level of success/experience, either.

Also, I'm guessing you don't know who the Brooklyn (NY) Poly staff members are or whether they're qualified for college jobs or not.

I don't know because I don't care that much. Here's what I found on his head coach, if that's the guy:

Fountaine worked as an assistant football coach at his alma mater Nazareth H.S. from 1985-94 and served as Nazareth’s head coach from 1995-98. Fountaine was named Daily News High School Coach of the Year in 1996. Fountaine was also an employee of the NFL. He worked in youth development where he was the site director for the NFL Junior Player Development program and High School Player Development programs from 1999-2006.

In 1998, Fountaine stepped into the college ranks, and joined the coaching staff at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York, where he stayed until 2001. He says this was a great opportunity to learn from the coaches at the Academy, which he called a “cradle of coaches that left Kings Point to coach at the major college level and the NFL.”

I think he would be a pretty good hire as a player personnel type of job -- or whatever job title they give those guys. The closest I follow high school football is to periodically check max preps top 25 to see who the elite teams are. And I don't recall NY ever really having teams on it over the last decade or so. The coaches Michigan picked up were coaches that coached at very good programs from a national prospective, from talent rich areas and are young up and coming types. I think this is were Michigan fans are ok with the bush and partridge hires and scratch their head at Wilson's coach getting offered a job (if that happened).

How do you know Georgia won't get the same results?

You're basing yoru opinion knowing what they mean to the team today.

How do you know Wilson's coaches won't mean the same to UGA 2-3 years from now?

I'm so lost at what point you're trying to make. Superman.gif me if you want, maybe it did go over my head...but all I read is we can't compare UGA doing something Michigan has done because Michigan's has worked really well for the program 2 years later.

Not just some .......Wow if we hire this person conciliate them and we will gain a recruit. Then we'll send them packing. It's insulting to even think like that. I could see some kinda Meyer lover or someone that would like to point out possible problems or wrong doings going on that might sink the great Battleship Michigan but noway could I see a Michigan faithful imagining that. Check your fandome it must be loaded and ready to show off at any time.

I'm pretty sure he grew up watching Georgia with his dad. Perhaps they were a school he envisioned himself playing at. They made a good hire, SEC, weather.... there are plenty of reasons why he would choose them. That's crootin. If Jabrill didn't grow up rooting for us do you think he would've committed to hoke?

I want to point out that I am not bitter about Wilson's decision at all. He made the decision that was right for him.

However, the one thing I don't understand about the recently espoused "Georgia was his favorite school growing up" narrative is why Georgia wasn't really prominent in his recruitment from the start. Why was UM the leader for his services for so long if he was a diehard Georiga fan?

(Insert the guy shrugging his shoulders thingy.)

Not sure how it comes out so late that he was a life long Georgia fan. He was all Michigan the whole time -- with talks about bama sprinkled in. Then 2 weeks ago bama seems to back away after getting 2 tackles to reaffirm with them instead of going to Michigan, and bama starts pushing the narritive he wants to play in the sec. That was the first time I heard that, then the Georgia life long fan come out. Maybe I am biased because I know how sleezy saban recruits and that smart is his diciple. But that part seems out if place. Either way, good luck to the kid.

This is alos what i didnt get, if youre a life long fan youre talking about them the whole time even if youve never been there. They are ateam that continues to be "right there" through the whole process. Just like when Jabrill was a life long fan and wanted to come to michigan even though they were coming off a rough season. Im not saying hes not a fan but it should have been something mention and talked about and discussed throughout the process.

It really doesn't, but the fact they're being compared is silly. Both are strong choices depnding on the mood, what you're having with it, what you have the taste for.

They shouldn't be compared...they're not really trying to be the same thing like Sprite, 7Up, Sierra Mist.
