UPDATE: As announced on MGoBlue:

CSG President Bobby Dishell made a presentation to the Regents regarding the findings from a CSG survey about the student experience at football games and the student body's relationship with the athletic department. He outlined the following agreements between Michigan Athletics and CSG that will take effect immediately:

  • Athletics will work to design a new plan for next season that will include a significant price decrease for football student season tickets. Athletics will announce student season-ticket prices for the 2015 football season next week.
  • Rental fees for athletic facilities will be eliminated for student groups with a charitable focus.
  • The department has committed to work with the Big Ten to create a blackout weekend where Crisler Center will be available for MUSIC Matters in 2016.
  • Monthly meetings with students will be held with Athletic Director Dave Brandon to address topics relating to all 31 teams and Michigan Athletics.
  • Dishell and Brandon will have regular standing meetings.
  • The athletic department will create a student advisory board comprised of student-athletes, non-athletes, season-ticket holders and non-ticket holders.

The problem with all of the people saying "oh my god this is a sign he's willing to listen" is that he should have been taking these types of actions his entire tenure to benefit the students. Instead his job is on the line so he's trying to save face with those that don't pay close attention. I just hope the powers that be aren't fooled and know that this will not satisfy us

Again, the timing of Brandon's capitulation tells you everything you need to know:

If he were sincerely attempting to provide what Michigan students and customers want, then he would have made these moves a year or more ago.

The fact that he waited until the writing was on the wall--until Presidential statements, and student rallies, and Regent meetings uniformly suggested he could be forced out--shows this capitulation is not sincere.

And because it isn't sincere, it cannot be trusted.

Go in peace, Dave Brandon.

But go now.

You guys are idiots if you think he leaves that easily. As smart as this institution makes you out to be, it reminds me of that dumb blond bimbo with big fake tits who believes everything she hears or reads. Give it up. Your voice doesnt matter. Who cares about your tuition. It doesnt mean shit. Million dollar donors are the voices so shut the fuck up. The negativity is nauseating and quite frankly a lot of people are tired of it. Go suck off your parents checking accounts and let this shit play out for the next 3-4 months.

Huh? So the guy lowers student ticket prices as everyone has been calling for and you attack him? Sure I get it that it is a PR move for the AD. But who cares - its still a win for what people have been asking for. If the AD continues to do other good things, its a win even if it was done for PR. Remember the goal is to have them do everything for PR and have them do things that will be well received by the fans.Yeah - its only one thing but the response you have is a complete joke.

He had the meeting with Dishell last week. Dishell tweeted last week that there would be announcements on this so it was already in the works. Dishell mentioned it at the regents today so everyone already knew about this. His message didnt really break anything new other than allowing you to have a problem with the time stamp on his message. I think Michigan is better off without Brandon but the response to him trying to make improvements is pathetic. Would you have responded more favorably if he raised the prices?

This is absolute nonsense. If he's buying himself "days" (read: trying to save his job), he releases this before the Regents meeting, where they could probably consider motions to relieve him. I'm no expert on the way Regent meetings are run, but I have a feeling that that could be addressed at any point.

I see literally no strategic advantage to "waiting til 8:00p.m." to announce. The 1:00a.m. statement about Morris was shifty, no question. This? You're just trying to write your own narrative at this point.

I think the whole after hours or time stamp issue is so overblown. Everyone sees everything immediately in this day and age that you might as well just release it when you have it and not wait for some special time. I hardly doubt the 1am release was a matter of trying hide things as everyone knows everyone will see it. It sounds like they worked on it all day and felt like it was best to just get it out when it was done rather than waiting until the next morning.

In which case it takes our esteemed Athletic Department nearly 3 full days just to acknowledge the elephant-in-the-room word (concussion)?  Or it takes the Athletic Department "all day" on Monday to draft a multi-paragraph statement that should have been issued no later than Sunday?  Was Shane Morris not evaluated for a concussion in the midst of the media snowstorm after the game?  If not, why the heck not?  If he was, why was Hoke clueless the following day?

The whole episode was an incomprehensible failure to handle a hot-topic media issue.

I'm not saying it worked but they definitely had a reason for releasing it so late.  Not disagreeing that they spent a ton of time haggling over words "probable mild concussion" but almost 60 hrs after the game ended, even the most ridiculous legalese could've been writen by then, let alone the 800 word piece of shit that he put out.  By releasing it at 1am, they missed that night's Sportscenter and were hoping it would be buried on everyone's twitter feed by 8am.

Lets be naive and think they just released it when they finished it... that is almost as bad, if not worse.  Cause even if you didn't intend to, the appearance is they tried to bury it.

Agree. Given that Dishell tweeted about this last week and there are quotes from Dishell and the SAAC on the release, it is clear this was a joint release and wasnt a matter of Brandon putting something together in 2 hours. It was probably agreed that it would be released after Dishell did his presentation to the regents.

The problem with giving credit for an action like this is that it reeks of insincerity.  It took a public and national butt-kicking for him to pay attention and he took this action the evening that a Regents meeting fueled speculation of his termination.  The problem with insincere actions taken in times of crisis is that you can't trust the person to continue acting this way once the crisis dies down.  (I work in Employee Relations, and it's a common occurrence that the employee's behavior improves when he is threatened with termination, but returns to the old ways once he gets comfortable again.)

I mean, what possible justification could there be for announcing season ticket prices for the 2015 season before the 2014 season is even over?

Hilarious. If there's any more evidence we need that Dave Brandon is trying to run Michigan Athletics like a beleaguered pizza company, it's this.

Remember what your old coach used to say, Dave? No man is bigger than the team? Listen a little closer. We only hear it ten times a game day.

What justification? Perhaps Schlissel ordered him to make progress with relationship with students right now and this was a tangible item that would have real meaning rather than just vague promises. Also people on the prior thread said they didnt trust him and that he would weasel out of the promise so giving an actual $ amount makes it more believable and tangible.

Not only that Pearl but ....standing meetings with the student body prez?  Is that real?  if so it's unprecedented and very interesting.  In addition to being forced there at gunpoint,  it makes it sound like he will be around another year.  Very, very interesting.

Maybe us alum season ticket holders could get a price break too.....
