New Staff Probables

Submitted by jbibiza on

This article in Rivals mentions a few very probable hires that will be coming with Hoke from his SDSU staff.  Underwhelming at first glance.  One of them coaches running backs which could be bad for the re-hire of Fred Jackson, but the guy has other position experience so perhaps FJ will be retained.  We need Fred for continuity and to solidify Hayes and Rawls (should he qualify) and of course for his unique analytical skills

The more I hear about Al Borges, the more confident I am that there is absolutely no wway this will be 2008 all over again.  The man understands offense, and alot of it.  I loved Rod when he was here, but he was too stuborn about working with the parts that he had.  Borges will not be like that, and Denard will probably be fine running the WCO anyways.

Article up this evening confirms that Freddy J is back in the mix, and also mentions that Hoke's brother will not be joining (as noted here).

However, the pertinent note was this little gem:

That makes Louisville defensive coordinator and former Michigan defensive backs coach Vance Bedford the frontrunner to land the D.C. job. Louisville finished 14th in the country in total defense last season with 311.7 yards against and was 18th in scoring defense (19.38 points per game).

Yeah!!

...Hoke's hires so far aren't bad.  Borges is a respectable hire that Hoke is familiar with, Wellman is no Barwis but I've heard enough positive things, he's kept Jackson, and Funk at least has a decent amount of experience prior to signing on with Brady.  And now positive word about Bedford...I can live with this staff so far, particularly if Loeffler is the QB coach...
