New pop-up ad at the bottom of the MGoBlog iphone app

Submitted by artds on
Man is this thing annoying.

I always have my radio app playing in the background throughout the day, and every time I click on a thread, it shuts my radio off so that the audio for the pop-up video ad can play.

I then have to close the ad, minimize the MGoblog app, open my radio app and hit the play button again, then maximize Mgoblog to start reading.

Then rinse and repeat each time I want to read another thread.

Dont know why, never use to pop up until lately. At first I thought I was accidentally touching it when scrolling through but now I know im not crazy. Hope there's some sort of update soon...

I laughed at how precisely and delicately I was touching the screen, thinking I was somehow accidentally hitting the add. Glad to hear it wasn't me, and that a fix is on the way.

I do try to hit an add fairly regularly... Keepin' things free!

I was scrolling through comments last night and the screen kept switiching over to the pop up video. As if i have been frustrated enough over the past week.

That pop up is bad news. I'm all for the site earning revenue, but that ad has made the app almost unusable since last night. Case in point: I'm now back to reading and posting through safari on my phone.

I mean I understand the need for sites to raise revenue, but this will defintely reduce the number of times I visit the site each day, especially when something is on the radio that I want to listen to.
I wonder if there might be a more user friendly way to incorporate ads into the app.

What if there was an ad-free version of the app for a small fee? Does the revenue from the ads bring in enough money that keeping it free with ads brings in more money? I've been meaning to donate to the site beyond clicking on ads and this seems like a good way to do it...

free app with ads seems to bring in more money than a 99 cent app (over the long run). That's mostly due to the nature of the user base/app (not that many users, but always using the app).

Keeping it free also encourages new people to try it out, hopefully increasing the number of loyal readers.

1. Paid apps.

2. Paid posting (sometimes).

This would get more money to Brian (good) and a few burst-ready servers (better).

This site is way past Beveled Guilt. The irony of the past week is that only fan-boys with iPhones or special credentials could post. I say declare it a "paid poster week" (yes, I am) and then crank up the PayPal.

And to think all of those pageviews missed by outages and throttled posting!

It is ironic that people complain about pop-ups with free apps...

I found it interesting how only people with the iPhone app could successfully post during the heavy loads. I've seen other sites do a 'Paid Membership' and when things got rough, only paid members would be able to post. There were also 'Paid Members Only' areas of the site that were un-moderated...

I've never had any problems with it. It's never stopped my music or anything.
Plus, it matched me up with my girlfriend based on 200 different compatibility ratings, mgoblog hasn't done that for me yet.
