New place to eat in AA
I came across a new place to eat here in AA last night while looking up local food carts and trucks. Turns out there is a place called Mark's Carts on Ashley street over by the blind pig. I love food cart food so I tried it this morning, it is amazing. There are 6 privately owned food carts there, each with its own distinct style and flavor. If you park in the flat lot across the street from the blind pig, its right abve it. I suggest you go to humble hog and get the mac and cheese or carols cart and get the lisa breakfast burrito. I really want this place to succeed so I figured what better place to spread the word that on here. enjoy

Thanks. It's restaraunt week in AA. Going to Connor O'neil's tonight; two for $25 includes an appatizer, two entress, a flight of five beers, and desert. My wife and I go there every restaurant week. There are deals at other restaurants as well.
never been ot connors but i love food with cabbage in it so i know I will try it before I leave AA, plus the roommates go there for trivia and say its better trivia than charleys
I played trivia at Conor's for a LONG time. Best trivia night I've ever played. Boston trivia nights suck, and I often pine for these trivia nights...
You've obviously never played Quizzo.
1) He has a fair amount of MGoPoints, way more than "Bull Michael" or even me.

its sad, all my infamy is lost on this new generation of posters because Ive been trying to become a better mgoblog user. trust me, im not mark, if you want to find out who I truly am go to user generated HOF and look for douchey mgoblog users.
also, i gave a heads up on here when satchels, the new bbq place by the old whole foods, opened up. I lust love good food and want these places to get lots of business and stay open for at least as long as i am living around here
Went to Sava's yesterday for restaurant week, but wanted to try out the Blue Nile.
its sad savas doesnt do dollar burgers anymore
Damn. Last summer I'd hit up the Arena, Sava's, and Bar Louie for cheap burgers on the regular. Put on at least twenty pounds, but they were cost-effective points.
man, i cant ever begin to descibe how much i hate bar louie, a group of us did dollar bugers there for a year and we all hated it but it was cheap. eventually we just couldnt deal with how shitty it was and just quit going
A friend of mine used to work in the Bar Louie kitchen and had horror stories about that place. He's worked in quite a few kitchens and said nowhere else ever came close. That, on top of it being one of the only chain bars in A2 anyway, was enough to make me steer clear.

i love great plains and was wondering what they were gonna put in there. I love korean food, prob too far for me to go very often since I live by eisenhower, but if it is better than kosmos i will be in love
Where is Kosmo's? I like Rod's Diner, their bibimbop is pretty good and damn good colliders too.
Kosmo's is in Sparrow Market in Kerrytown (in Kerrytown Markets, just west of Zingerman's.) It's on the first floor in the middle, right across from Monahan's Fish Market. Definitely a must-visit; their bibimbop and Tucker burger are both fantastic.
I've already ate there twice -- really good stuff! The bibimbap isn't really anything special (they don't have any hot stone pots), but the Korean Fried Chicken is delicious. It's nothing like KFC/American fried chicken -- very lightly breaded, and covered with a tangy/spicy sauce.
On Saturday I went to Miki for sushi and it was incredible. It is now under new management, the same people that run Sushi Zen in Birghton, and it is so much better. The portions are larger, the prices are lower, it has a better menu, and there is a friendlier atmosphere.
I checked out the carts the other day too. I think they're a great idea.
yeah, i was watching the show street eats on the cooking channel last night and was thinking why doesnt ann arbor have food trucks or carts (aside from the hot dog ones) so i looked it up and found marks carts. dropped the girlfriend off at umcu this morning and went over there. luckily they were open a little earlier than usual so I was able to get the mac and cheese
The new Raven Club had some great food. From what I remember anyway. We were drinking heavily.

Went to restaurant week at conor o'neills last night, going to the chop house (I know) on Wed cause I can't afford it on a normal night. I'm thinking of adding a third destination for the week but cost-effectiveness may give way to too-much-restauranting-ness. Maybe a lunch.
Has anyone tried the headcheese hoagie? It sounds gruesome, but supposedly people eat them.

i live within walking distance of bagger dave and the roommate used to work there, it is really good, you should try it out. not the best in AA but still worth going to
Bagger Dave's is awesome. Reasonably priced burgers, and get the sloppy fries when you go. Definitely a great meal, and love the atmosphere. The little train going around the tracks up high is really cool.
Bagger Dave's is very good. Their biggest burger (can't remember the name but it comes with fries and an egg on the burger) is just ridiculous. That and some Bell's and you'll want to sit around the rest of the night. Very good though.

The "Train Wreck" at Bagger Dave's is outstanding.
I graduated in 2007 and am moving back to Ann Arbor this fall to start medical school. It's amazing how much it has changed in only 4 years!
Call me old fashioned, but my favorite "cart" will always be Le Dog on Liberty. I'm going to have to do some serious adventuring when I get back to AA. Any new food suggestions from MGoBlog users that have popped up in the last 4 years (minus, apparently, Bar Louie)?

oh for sure, le dog is where its at for little food stands, but you cant eat soup everyday (the dogs at amers hot dog venture had better dogs than le dog)
Way too salty. I get that the soup reduces all day, but I was expecting better after all the hype.
well they rotate hundreds of different soups, maybe you just got one you didnt like. I find that the tortilla and the cream of asparagus are cant miss
The guys who run old town have a new place on main st. Supposed to be like those newfangled gastropubs in NYC
is a Zingerman's-backed concept, so you can be rest-assured the food will be high-quality.

but the difference between zingermans and marks carts is marks carts isnt overprice, 6 bucks for a really filling breakfast burrito sounds reasonable to me
I thought the Mark behind Mark's Carts was the Mark who owns Downtown Home & Garden.
Beware of Mani Osteria & Bar unless you really like salt and want your tongue to taste salty for 24 hours. Ice cream at Kilwin's right afterwards doesn't remove the saltiness either... we tried.
I maybe in the minority but I'm gonna go ahead and say it: I don't care for Zingerman's.
It insists upon itself.

you won't find anybody who thinks less of zingermans than i do, but please don't judge these new stands the same way just because they areloosly affiliated with them, try them first
Though Zingerman's did open a cart recently. It is the Mark who owns the Garden center who runs the operation, but each of the carts is independently owned and operated from Mark.

Even if you're not vegan (I'm not), it is recommended. It's cheap and fantastic.
