I completely agree that sometimes less is more. I also like how they're not using the athletic logo with "MICHIGAN" across the M. The block M is iconic and people know what it is. No need to slap the name on there...or on our jerseys. See, teams like Michigan State have to do that.

Totally agree. I love the solitary Block M with no additional text. Totally hammers home that M is for Michigan unless otherwise noted.

The block M with Michigan across the M is no longer part of the school's branding.  Banished, rightly, to the 1980s where it belongs.

I got a Michigan tatoo on my shoulder after I graduated, and it is the block M with Michigan through the middle.

At the time, that logo was still be used, and to be honest I did and still do like it.

However, the other major reason I went with that logo is to ensure that it is never mistaken for another team. I am from Missouri originally and would not want it to be confused with a Mizzou M or any other possible team.

I am happy that the athletic department went with just the plain M though. I figure in 10 years or so, my tatoo will seem really unique because no one will have seen that logo in a long time.

But honestly, I didn't get it to show it off in the first place. I got it because my passion for Michigan was at an all-time high and it seemed like a good idea. Still does as a matter of fact.

And correct.  From http://www.logos.umich.edu/usemarks.html

PLEASE NOTE: The “split block M”—the version that has the word Michigan written across the M—is offered as an alternative here only because it was registered and in use prior to these guidelines. It should be used sparingly and only in settings where we need to graphically distinguish ourselves from another university that uses some form of an "M" as their logo, such as the University of Minnesota. This version of the Block M should not be used as a department logo, or on print pieces or web banners created in the future.

Also, if memory serves, for everything other than the UM Medical System, the maize M is not to be outlined in blue.

I was under the impression it is still part of the school's branding, but for use exclusively when there's a desire to seperate us from another school's M logo. Like if we played Missouri in a bowl game, the little yahoo graphics of the schools logos would use our 1980's bar logo, in that situation.

It looks so good. Renovations = complete. Until we move on those soccer stadiums in the rest of the world. Part of the largest crowd watching a football (or futbal) game anywhere in the world today? Yes please.

look at how lit up the inside of the stadium is.  It's like there is a great orb inside of it, radiating toughness, accountability, and physicality.

I saw the back of the scoreboards when I went to the Athletic Dept Garage Sale and they couldn't have been done any better.

Can't wait to see them in person.

I was in the stadium on Friday afternoon, and the south scoreboard is finished. It looked really nice! Simplistic, yet HUGE!!!!

the North end had some more work....but it still looked AWESOME!

Are the sides of the scorebards, which looked like scaffolding until recently,  filled in or are they "active"?.  Looks like they are solid on the sides from the one completed photo(below), but the angle is acute. I  won't get to see them in person until the Eastern game.

I drove past the stadium earlier today. The photo above is of the south scoreboard. That one looks pretty much finished. The panels to the right and left of the video screen certainly looked solid to me, so speakers won't be going in there.

The side panels to the right and left of the north scoreboard's video screen are still open, so I guess they haven't finished installing the speakers. You may not have seen this, but earlier they had installed mesh-like panels on the sides of the north scoreboard but then they later took them off. Eventually those will be put back up.

All I want to know is if the refresh rate of the videoboard will actually be high enough to capture Denard in motion or if they'll resort to showing stills of every play he's involved with.
