Looks like defensive recruits will be the theme for the 2012 class....though maybe this staff feels getting offensive players will be a little easier later in the year.

If anything you can teach a player to be a good offensive player but some guys either can play D or they cant.

Offensive line recruits usually get offered later in the process becuase they are more difficult to evaluate. Even with that, though, Hoke and co. have offered pretty equally between offense and defense.

I have no idea what that means, and neither do you. You are just making stuff up.

This is coming from someone who has played football for 14 years and coached for another 5 years. Defense is usually always the side of the ball that comes together first. As far as what M has had on the field defensively, our scheme and play calling was more at fault than any individual.

Thanks for posting
Tough for the coaches to keep track of all these kids? Building the relationship is what they all want next.
3* on Scout currently - is that an actual rating at this point, or just a placeholder. Still early I understand

Nah, his 3-star rating means he's considered to be a 3-star prospect. These ratings aren't done on relative terms. If a kid's a 4-star, he should be a 4-star in February or in August or on National Signing Day. Obviously some kids improve their stock (or drop) due to combines, senior performance, etc. But the 3-star rating means Scout thinks he's a middling recruit.

Magnus contributes a lot of valuable content to this board but in this case I believe he's mistaken.

Scout continues to refine their list up until the middle of January. I'm pretty sure the final rankings were posted January 18th this past season. If you look back at the Scout message board during that time you'll find numerous posts complaining about 5 Stars who ended up 4 Stars and 4 Stars who became 5 Stars or fell to 3 Stars.

Currently, Scout has only identified 12 5 Stars and 89 4 Stars so they will be adding 187 more players to the 4/5 Star classifications. It is unlikely that all of those players will be currently unranked although many will be.

Maybe Scout is conservative when they first start ranking guys, but surely they have to know that there are multiple guys that will eventually be four stars or higher.

A guy like Terry Richardson had offers from LSU and Alabama before the rankings were even made, yet he's a three star. I can't believe that they didn't foresee him becoming a four star. Same goes for a guy like Aaron Burbridge who Sam Webb and company were talking about as possibly contending with O'Brien and Ross for top player in the state. They have to be expecting him to be a four star eventually, and his offer sheet shows it.

There are multiple others that you can look at who maybe the analysts want to give a chance to move within the rankings, but it's obvious that they'll eventually be four stars based on their offers.
