New Low: RCMB posts UofM bball players/coaches email addresses

Submitted by JHendo on

I know we have bigger things to worry about, like the OSU basketball game in 1 hour. However, I just got word that a couple days ago, the email address of Michigan basketball players and coaches got leaked on Red Cedar Message Board. They are now using that list to send emails and spam to those addresses. It's one thing to be immature and do/say stupid things while at a game, it's another thing to pull a stunt like this. As if my opinion of Sparty fans wasn't low enough, this just made it lower.

Edit: The original post with the email addresses has been deleted from RCMB, the addresses are still plastered all over that thread, but it's the thought that counts, I guess. Not sure what took their mods so long, but it's good to see there's a few guys over there that know when something's crossing the line.

It's pretty stunning that not one poster on the first page of comments suggests any concern over this despicable behavior. I know it's Sparty, but this is unbelievable.

These are the same fans who chanted "daddy's better" at Tim Hardaway Jr @ Michigan. Good observation MSU. They may have these E-MAIL addresses, but MSU fans aren't logical enough to know what to use them for.

Yeah I heard that. Anyone who chants "Daddy's better" at Tim Hardaway Jr is a dumbass. No shit his dad is better, he is one of the better PGs in NBA history. I'm sure Tim is ashamed that his dad was a great basketball player...

So I actually just tried searching for many of the bball players addresses on directory and their emails wouldn't pop-up...however, all the football players emails are there...any ideas why that is? Even Beilein's isn't there...kinda weird.

Maybe they removed all the bball emails after the RCMB post?

Honestly, if it is anything like the college I work at, most of the spam type stuff they get signed up for will be stopped by a spam filter before it even reaches them. The idiots at RCMB are going to waste more of their own time than anything else. But judging by that thread a lot of them don't have much of a life to begin with.

This honestly doesn't mean much to me - it's standard fare for obsessive fanbases with too much time on their hands. I just think it is funny that they think this is awesome - I mean, it's freaking e-mail addresses you can obtain from a publicly-available source. Wow, welcome to search functionality, Spartan faithful.

Yes, those emails are public anyways but wow. I should of known not to read that thread. Stuff like that being encouraged makes me sick to be a sports fan and indirectly associated with people like that. It's a game people, yes it feels like a huge deal to you, it does for me too, so much that it's my major, but at the end of the day these are people, actually in college these are kids, playing a game.

It's not a game when it can help alleviate years of feeling inferior to another group of people. When MSU does well, the fan base thinks "see, we really can be better than you!" 40-year-old guys who still feel the sting of the rejection letter find solace in the success of an 18-year-old. It's actually quite sad.

I mean, seriously? It's seriously appalling, and I don't even mean that in a "OMG I HATE MSU" way. Just the idea of this is seriously sick.

"I remember one year the Izzone got a hold of every single scUM player's parent's names. Whenever a player went to the line, the Izzone would chant either their mom or dad's name. I remember specifically DeShawn Sims going to the line. His mothers name was listed but he didn't have a dad. So, the entire Izzone was chanting "Whose Your Daddy" clap. clap. clapclapclap."

One other thing I noticed - one of the posters talked about finalfouru.com, which is apparently a website dedicated to MSU making the Final Four 6 of the last 12 years. While that is certainly an accomplishment, they've also been on the losing side 5 of those 6 years, and usually somewhat embarrassingly. So yeah, good job being solid enough to make the F4, but it also highlights MSU's status as a team just below the elite teams that actually, you know, win titles every year.

They're very proud of their six FF appearances under Izzo, as they should be. What they don't like to talk about is that of those six appearances, they lost the first game four times. I know they're not officially recognized, but, FWIW, U-M's been to as many finals in the last 20 years as MSU.

Am I supposed to respond back with "I'm rubber and you're glue" or should I try "I know you are but what am I?" Sorry, but you have to give me some guidance here, because I have absolutely no idea where you're going with this.

What amazes me is the fact that there are nine pages of that RCMB post. That seems like a collosal waste of time to dedicate that much space to that topic.

I know this may be a little cliche, but it may be a bad idea for those fans to start emailing players and coaches. I mean think of it this way I know its a rivalry game and there shouldn't be any more motivation needed, but all that can really happen is that the team just gets more bulletin board material. If a team has beaten you the last three games I would think a little more motivation would be the last thing I would want them to have.

People forget these are 18-23 year old KIDS.

They are adults, but seriously, is there anything more messed up than a 40 year old man going after a 18 year old athlete?

Typical Sparty, I hope someone in the media gets a hold of this after the whole ACL Hummel fiasco. If you don't want to be called little brother, don't act like one. I'm pretty sure spam block will not let most of the stuff they plan to do pass.

Talking to a coworker who works for ITS. Some of these geniuses sent the emails from their @msu.edu address or a gmail address with a Google Plus account/name linked to it. MSU admin is getting an email on Monday about this and the kids may find themselves regretting hitting send. Also any threatening emails go to DPS.

The best part of that thread is the "Hahahah I'm signing them up for spam". Those clowns must be using Hotmail or something with crap spam filtering and think that is actually effectively. Sparty on...
