New Low: RCMB posts UofM bball players/coaches email addresses

Submitted by JHendo on

I know we have bigger things to worry about, like the OSU basketball game in 1 hour.  However, I just got word that a couple days ago, the email address of Michigan basketball players and coaches got leaked on Red Cedar Message Board.  They are now using that list to send emails and spam to those addresses.  It's one thing to be immature and do/say stupid things while at a game, it's another thing to pull a stunt like this.  As if my opinion of Sparty fans wasn't low enough, this just made it lower.

Edit: The original post with the email addresses has been deleted from RCMB, the addresses are still plastered all over that thread, but it's the thought that counts, I guess.  Not sure what took their mods so long, but it's good to see there's a few guys over there that know when something's crossing the line.

My two cents: this is getting old.
<br>It's one thing if you're going to deploy this only when people raise something that's truly trivial (e.g., a dumb comment from a single poster at Bucknuts or RCMB). Rivalry-related stuff like this, though, is more than worthwhile as an offseason thread topic.

But it negates the point if used indiscriminately.  THIS is news, and it's really about Michigan basketball players, not MSU doing this or that.  I agree, the later is getting a bit old (till it's time to play them the end of next week). But MSU doing something particularly dispicable, and doing to Michigan Athletes isn't obsession. No more than anything on here about Michigan Athletics is it's own kind of obsession.

had no idea that they were that pathetic.  Saddest part is that not one person is calling them on it!  Absolutely no voice of reason among anyone reading that.  On this board, it would be quickly labeled "flamebait" and taken off.  It's very immature and idiotic.  so sad....

One or two posters said it was a little sad and disagreed with the vast majority, but, for the most part, there was some pretty ridiculous stuff there. I believe somebody even made a comment basically about disregarding Izzo's comments to the Izzone telling them to clean it up. I can actually respect Izzo most of the time, but never the MSU fans. They are actually proud of their messed up ideas.

Surprised, no. But still disappointing. Regardless of your fandom, you should not try to be a dick in day to day life. Yelling obnoxious crap during the game is fair enough, but if you care even a little about being a decent person let it go when the game ends. The scariest thing is that in my reading of that thread, I didn't see one person say, "this is too far."

I fear for the future of man.

It's behavior like that which makes me proud every time a president visits our University, an alum donates millions of dollars to our University, and an announcer says "This is also a top-notch academic institution."  They can't compare.  Not in the past.  Not now.  Not ever.

Aren't coaches emails usually public?

This is kind of funny.  Poisoning trees, teabagging, stabbing scrotums-thats crossing the line.  This, just like LSU fans flooding opposing QBs voice mails, is essentially harmless, and pretty much part of what cfb is about, IMO

As I was reading that (my eyes they burn!) I was appalled by the classlessness. My opinion of Sparty was low to begin with, but that stuff is just downright awful. Didn't Izzo just get done telling off people who heckle opposing players like that?

I don't know if posting email id's is a huge deal. University email id's of all Michigan students and Faculty can be found at directory.umich.edu

I am assuming that's what the person did, to get that info. They do not have personal emails for any student or coach. I do find the responses to that post at RCMB quite disturbing.

As a side note, I just found out that Trey Burke's real first name is Alfonso..

I think the worst part of it is the fact that it is encouraging many people to do terrible things with the emails.

There is also the fact that they now probably have to approach the university and get new email addresses because they can't get their reqired emails because so much spam has been sent to them.

To be honest, I bet these guys (not to mention the football players) get TONS of junk email, fan email, and hate mail because it is so easy to find their email addresses.  People with the profile of Denard must have filters galore setup. I'm assuming being a high-profile athlete, they are taught or have filters setup.

Still, the fact that a sparty is encouraging this is extremely dissappointing and childish.

They act like they found some hidden gem. Anybody can get anyone's email address at a college:

You want theirs:

go to MSU's website and search the directory ... they are all there

Send Tom Izzo a hello email:

Tom Izzo - [email protected]

This was discussed earlier (in the middle of a thread - not on its own), but I don't mind it being posted again.  This is so pathetic that it deserves to be called attention to.

Yeah an email is not hard to find, but neither is an address, and you typically wouldn't post that for thousands of people to easily access.  It is kinda cute how they act like extreme hackers though.

That's nothing.  Its common practice for small-time criminals to show off to their creepy little buddies by social engineering their way into all kinds of information about athletes and celebrities.  They'll be calling their parents at home at 4 in the morning.  Then four years from now these creeps end up in prison for printing credit cards.  Thats what we call the spartan difference.

....they should stick to their specialty, which at least doesn't open up student athletes and coaches to potential personal abuse. Sofas, on the other hand...

What gets me more is that nobody on RCMB seemed to think this was overboard,  but then again, sound judgment has always been a strength in  EL, right?
