Are these new facemasks? Haven't seen these before.
Not new. I believe the DLine of the NY Giants made them popular a few years ago.
Hannibal Lecter is terrifying. 300-pound Hannibal Lecter is piss-inducing.
A few players in the NFL went to these the last few years.
I think they sported these a year or two ago.
Last year for sure.
They are on loan from me. Dave gives me $5 off anything from Arbys
Virtual upvote from me RE: Arby's reference.
I believe these are banned in the NFL now unless you require one for extra protection due to medical reasons
My question would be why? By allowing them for players with injuries, they are admitting that they are a safer facemask. So why not allow them for all players? Whoever made that decision seems tone deaf to the whole safety issue that has been welling up these past few years. NFL, you are a stupid.
It could be that these masks are safer in certain ways, but less safe in other ways. I believe that Justin Tuck of the NY Giants wears one of these because he had a neck injury, and he claims that it's harder to grab the mask and twist his neck. However, it could be that the more tightly spaced bars would make it harder for doctors to assess his condition in the case of a possible concussion, or would make it more difficult to cut off his mask if that's ever necessary.
I have never seen an incident wear cutting the face mask off is necessary. There are only 4 screws that hold them on and I have seen times where they will unscrew those to remove the face mask.
I couldn't imagine them taking a sawzall or a cutoff wheel to a dude's helmet.
The NFL just banned them or is in the process of banning them unless you prove you need them for a medical reason (i.e. detached retina). They are becoming very popular though.
I think these ones have been approved for some time now. They are harder to grab onto so it prevents wear and tear on your neck, which is why it was approved by the NFL. The new, more rediculous ones, were made for a statement, which is why the NFL banned them.
There is a big difference between the masks in the picture and the Justin Tuck / Ray Lewis / Robert Nkemdichi facemasks, which are just absurd.
Brian Orakpo had one that looked like Bane from batman but the NFL banned it. I haz a sad
Nix from nd has it tho
Id say that this looks pretty close! btw I am new here. Go Blue!!
of little value. childlike 'intimidation'.
not new. they just became widely available. my son has one.
this guy builds custom ones.
I love them on lineman. on my nfl2k dreamcast games ide always give my lineman the beefiest mask that was available.
Im mad that my NCAA 14 game doesn't have these masks as an option. Where is the realism I payed for?
1. I love these masks.
2. Can we somehow make sure that people spell the word ridiculous correctly on this site?
Don't be rediquiliss.
If you're referring to the word "rediculous," I think you're not getting that these so-called misspellers are actually using the word correctly:
re-dic-u-lous: of or pertaining to something being diculous again. As in:
I hate these facemaks. They look horrible.
I hope they don't catch on at the historic Michigan. Also, it seems an opponent could easily get a finger wedged in there and snapped right off!
There are very few places where fingers do not belong. An opponent's facemask, however, is one of them.
Who is the recipient of that Hoke epic point pictured above.
They look intimidating to me. Praying they strike fear in the heart of tommy Rees this Saturday.
