Laissez le bon temps rouler!!!
New commit coming soon?
Considering that the segment was recorded on the weekend (at least, that's what I got out of it), it would have to be someone who knew he was doing it that day (as the call came that way as well). Also, did anybody else catch that Ross said he talked with Richardson before he called Mattison back and committed? Hint maybe?
I don't get it. Thompson is a 4*, #5 ranked TE and his best offer after Michigan is sparty?
WOTS is that there are some other big-time programs on the cusp of offering.
Looking at it from a prospects perspective it would be nice to accumlate numerous mid to high end offers to validate the hard work that he has put in with regard to football. I still believe he commits to Michigan, however.
Terry was in the WTKA studio today to watch Ross commit on the air FYI.
I saw that as well. Maybe it wasn't a phone call. A smokescreen, perhaps.
Remember ESPN 150 Watch list is simply that: a watch list. Not everyone on the watch list makes the ESPN 150. But hopefully all of ours do!
was 16 pages long.
Last year the watch list included Delonte Hollowell and Brennen Beyer. Neither finished the list in the 150.
there were 344 players on the ESPNU Watch List. So more than half won't be on the final.
FYI ESPN updates that frequently - I checked in Feb and again in March, and they'd made several changes. Jonah Pirsig and Kelby Latta (MI) were removed, and Benny McGowan and Yuri Wright were added. May have changed again in the last month
Dont forget we also have a silent commit.
I've been meaning to ask, what's the point of a silent commit? Is it good for the recruit, for some reason, to not tell people that he's committed somewhere?
It's good if you want to secure a place in the case, but still want to take visits without being pestered about your commitment / be subject to the ridicule of morons on the Internet/Facebook/while you're on that other campus.
I still wanna know what Chris Barnett was talking about... "Kentucky in my eyes...". We all know Zeke Pike's mention of the "Mega Class" I can only hope he switches and gets Dorial Green-Beckham on board and my life would be complete.
this may be a longshot...but it could be adolphus washington... why? because he said he only visited osu and kentucky, and that is 'all he has seen'...and he hasnt visited michigan yet, and its not out of question for a recruit to love the coaches and commit without visiting. but i doubt it.
I agree I saw that as well on his twitter. I tried looking at the offer list to see who we have offered from the state of Kentucky, and I only found one name: Zeke Pike. While this does not mean that he is about to flip his commitment to us, we still have time to keep working him about becoming a part of the Big Blue. We have plenty of time before signing day for Hoke, Borges, Barnett, and others (potentially Auburn sanctions) to convince him to switch, and I am sure he is keeping track of our "Mega Class" we are building so far without him. I would love to see him switch, but the more big names we get like RJS, Ross, hopefully Richardson, Thompson can only help us. Go Blue!
...we still have time to keep working him about becoming a part of the Big Blue.
I had no idea Pike was going to skip college and go right to the NFL and play for the Giants.
FYI - we are not Big Blue, that is Kentucky or the Giants. We are maize and blue, or more preferably, Michigan.
I was under the impression that consensus was the silent commit is Godin.
Yeah, that's the consensus. It was said to be an "in-state" guy and then a "defensive player" then later it came out that it was a "lineman" and "DEFINITELY NOT SHELDON DAY"
It was also said that the silent commit would take two visits in the two weeks before he made his decisions public. Godin visited MSU and Wiscy during this 2 week timeframe.
I haven't been this excited about Michigan's defense since before that other guy was the coach. My son loved Woodley and tried to emulate him on the field, but he's too young to remember watching Michigan play great defense year after year.
The silent commit, whomever it was, was originally committing silently, then going to take a couple visits, and then was going to make it public. The coaching staff told him to just take his visits and do the public thing afterwards if he still feels like thats what he wanted. In that situation, I can understand wanting to keep my commitment quiet so that I still got the red carpet rolled out at my visits.
If Godin he just finished a mini-tour of visits to enjoy the recruiting process bud. Kid deserves to enjoy the process and a silent commit allows that while holding your spot.
It's "commit", not "comitt", for future reference
Richardson by far makes the most sense as his buddies are now Wolverines. Sparty has to feeling the pain . . . . they finally put together some moderate success: Big Ten Title, Beating Us several times, and winning out on the bigger recruits instate the last couple years (Gholston, and Thomas) Enter Hoke and Staff and the state is ours again!!
Several times? Easy there pal. The state was always ours, MSU = Little brother. <- Mike Hart knows this very well.
Well as great as our offseason success has been this year, the fact remains that they have beaten us several years in a row...
IME, three does not equal several.
What does this equal:
I wouldn't call 3 years in a row several and we just swept them in basketball this year. Its not like they've been dominating us like we've been dominating them since well... forever.
As the above poster noted, several is more than two. Also, I'm pretty sure this in-state domination talk was about football. Trust me, I think we dominate the state too, but I'm just saying.
Three IS a few or several. Two is a couple. I don't understand how you don't know this.Apparently you're not the only one.
Yeah, if you're Sparty, you can't be happy. You've just had a season where you won a share of the Big 10 title. Also, you've beaten Michigan three times in a row and Michigan is coming off of three dismal years.
And what does that get you? You're already 0-5 in head-to-head battles (Braden, Funchess, Jenkins-Stone, Ross and Williams) against Michigan, with the very real danger of that falling to 0-8 over the next couple of weeks (Godin, Richardson and Thompson). Not to mention the fact that you're trailing on a couple of players that Michigan seems to be doing really well with (Day, Diamond, Ojemuda and Wormley).
Now, it would take a lot for all of these things to fall into place, but if you just look at guys that have already selected Blue and where Blue is favored, it isn't impossible that Michigan could be up 12-0 in head-to-head matchups without even taking into account guys that are looking at both of them (e.g. Dodson, Kiel, Odenigbo and Pipkens among others).
While I'm not saying that Sparty should be our benchmark, it's still nice to see us beat them.
The biggest one that may not go our way right now is Brundidge. IIRC, I think we have some ground to make up with him. But man, I love kicking Sparty's ass. I've missed this
I think you mean Burbridge from FHH and we do have some ground to make up with him. However, I think people have mentioned that he has some work to make up in the classroom to qualify.
Ya I really hope Brundridge goes our way because he signed his LOI to us already.
I am equally psyched about all of the defensive recruiting. I think that in two years, we are going to be (1) playing with a talent advantage over most teams, and certainly playing with comparable talent when we go up against OSU / Neb / ND, and (2) playing primarily only upper-classmen, and (3) have significant depth (i.e. not 18 year old kids) on the bench as back-ups. There is so much to look forward to on defense.
On offense, however, I am a bit concerned (not very) that we will need to pick up the recruiting a bit. We got 2 OL prospects, both solid, but have a need for (1) QB, (2) top flight "every down" RB, (3) some top flight WRs, and (4) another 1-2 OL.
Again, certainly nothing to worry much about, as we have a world of time.
Your priority for needs assements appears flawed. (1) OL or DL (2) OL or DL. Take your pick but our biggest depth concerns reside in these areas.
We will have 8 scholarship runningbacks on the roster this fall including the 2 freshmen, with only Shaw expected to leave. The only way we take a runningback at all is if they are elite or if we have a spot to fill at the end and someone desperately wants to be a Wolverine.
No way do we take 2 with our needs in the trenches.
Or if we have the chance to steal a 5 star kid from tsio
I think this puts Michigan in a very good spot for Richardson. No doubt. What I am curious about is Chris Barnetts previous statements, that were also somewhat confirmed by Tom, that we will be getting another big time recruit later this week or more probably this weekend. Barnett mentioned Kentucky alot which makes me believe it would have to be Pike, any thoughts here. Let the optimism begin after such a great day.
I want feedback on my current wishlist (yes, its very optimistic but we just killed Bin Laden did we not?)
QB- Zeke Pike. I like what I have heard from Barnett lately and with all the NCAA investigations and their recent comments about their other QB commit i never believed he would end up signing his LOI at Auburn. Adding Ross and the others that have recently commited could start that MEGA class he was talking about. So lets hope Barnett wasn't talking about the derby.
(Also would be thrilled with Kiel but think that is much less likely.)
RB- Bri'Onte Dunn. This is very wishful thinking as well, but again, NCAA investigations at tOSU could play a major factor and the fact that he is visiting and our depth chart at this position must be very appealing.
(Greg Garmon was also considered and would love to see him go blue.)
WR- Without anyone standing out at all, I am going to say Stefon Diggs for absolutely no reason other than I'd love to have him and atleast we know we have a teammate of his in Countess. This position may be one that is filled after we see which quarterback lands our way.
TE-Ron Thompson or no one. Don't think I need to explain why.
Jordan Diamond. This commit wont come for a while but I feel as though he is basically a Michigan silent commit who wants to attract attention for teammates and take his free visits. Love the way this kid plays and looks on film though.
Jordan Simmons. Extremely optimistic here but I have heard lately that we have a very good shot to get a visit. If we can get a kid to fly out from CA, who says staying close to home isn't important, and has a mentor who is a former Michigan player, I will take an outside chance that he could end up being a HUGE commit.
J.J. Denman- Visited for the spring game. From what I have heard it will come down to us Penn State and Notre Dame. I have been told from people I trust that Michigan is definitely getting a visit, and "would have to like our chances at this very early moment." The closer a commit is to home the more information I can get about them.
Zach Banner- The most optimistic guy on this board. I love every single thing I have seen on tape from this kid, and have been impressed with every single thing I have heard come out of his mouth. He is a great football player and would make for an amazing Michigan Man but I truly thing Michigan has a long way to go if they want to get this kid to commit. Right now I have heard we are in a discussion for a visit though so that is a big first step.
Chris Wormely. Everyone knows who he is unless they live under a rock or are new here. Great kid, great talent, longtime Michigan fan. Michigan lean and with everything coming out about tOSU I cant believe he won't commit blue. Have heard recently that he may have moved up his timeline to commit as well but this is passed on with hesitation as we don't know what his exact timetable was in the first place.
Adolphus Washington- A lot like Dunn, he was considered to be an tOSU lock just a few months ago. Now here we are and he is saying his recruitment is wide open and says he likes everything he has heard from michigan. Michigan wouldn't be recruiting him so hard if we had no chance and again the NCAA investigations could play a major role. Everything I have heard tells me that this kid is a winner who would be "extremely unlikely to commit somewhere where he couldn't play in bowl games." This is a wish list not a likely to commit list but I think this is becoming more and more possible by the day.
Pharaoh Brown- Love this kid. Michigan leads. Enough said.
(Would like to make this a complete WISH LIST by adding Noah Spence to this list. He is a long shot at the moment but who knows we are still in the running for an official.)
Sheldon Day- We currently lead. But he wants to commit later in the process so a lot could change in that amount of time. Really would love to see this kid go blue as I am extremely impressed by the way he moves for a tackle.
Matthew Godin- As a C.C. grad I would love to see this kid go blue. Great player, great person, great family.
For the third spot I'm going to hedge my bet and say I want one of the next two: Ondre Pipkins. He is from Michigan and at the moment I believe we lead. Danny O'Brien. I think we still have a good shot at O'Brien even though Tenn leads at the moment. We haven't heard much lately but that is for other reasons. Wouldn't be surprised at all to see him join his friend Godin and go blue eventually.
CB and S:
Terry Richardson. The Ross commitment made me feel great about our chances here. He was in studio to watch Ross commit. With RJS and Ross going blue, the fact that although his recruitment is wide open there is no leader that is said to be ahead of us like with O'Brien, and the fact that he went to Cass Tech, I love our chances to land him.
Wayne Morgan- I think we have a great shot at getting this kid. He says it is us and Rutgers at the top of his list at the moment and we are the ones who have been making up ground which is good. Think this kid is a true safety.
(To make this a dream list i will add that I have heard interesting things about Deon Bush lately. Nothing earth shattering that makes me think we lead or even have a great shot but I will say that he is suddenly becoming a long shot in my mind instead of being completely unrealistic.)
Pike, Dunn, Diggs, O'Brien, Simmons, and Washington are all extreme longshots. Even getting one of those guys would be a huge victory, you'd be better off trying to win the lottery than getting all of them.
Out of all those, Diggs is probably the most extreme longshot because he hasn't really talked about us at all. Pretty sure he's going to SEC country. I agree that getting one or two would be huge, and I'd probably pick Simmons and Washington purely because of need. But any would be amazing.
And if you can snag Washington, you might be able to snag his teammate Stanford to fill the WR need (I believe they talked about being a package deal).
eliminate Diggs. Miami is his dream school. He also mentioned not wanting to play in cold weather.
I said I didnt have any WR at this point. Just put Diggs name up there because I don't think we have a great shot with a WR I like yet. The coaches haven't emphasized that position yet. Yes, some of these were long shots, but what does everyone think about what Barnett is saying about a big time commit from Kentucky?
I'd add Dwayne Stanford to the WR list. From what someone posted yesterday, Michigan has shot up his list. Plus him and Adolphus Washington are set on playing together so.
I had Danny O'Brien on my list. had him and Pipkins listed together. But yeah I like your list except I just feel as though you should have Sheldon Day on there and then Denman is a great midwest player if you are going that way aswell. Then, Washington, Banner, and Simmons are elite long shots that I would be thrilled to get any of. But yeah, my list was too long, I did it on purpose because I know we won't get all of these guys.
I was really happy to see us sweep this year in basketball. However, thats not part of this conversation. We have been beaten 3 years in a row and I am not willing to downplay that fact as unwelcomed as it may be.
Secondly if the state is ours we get who we want . . . Both Gholston, and Thomas who we heavily recruited, reside in East Lansing.
It is what it is, we will move on and have in a big way thus far this year in the recruiting process, especially in state which is awesome to see. but nonetheless have been beaten and thats the bottom line.
Both Gholston, and Thomas who we heavily recruited, reside in East Lansing.
I don't think we really did.... and thats on Double R.
Forget msu. IMO we should focus on osu and quit comparing ourselves to mid-major programs.
said Michigan didnt recruit that hard and thats why he went to michigan state
I surley dont think O'Brien will be blue by the end of this. TN has this really weird pull with those Saginaw/Flint kids. A strong year MAY get us back in the running but I just dont see it happening.
They have a coach who is from that area. He recruited Arnett last year.
Wow, a FHH WR with qualifying issues? Not a chance he goes anywhere other than MSU.
Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking, I'm glad to hear that we are really moving up with Dwayne Stanford.
Not sure if anyone saw this, but zeke pike is visiting on thursday.
This is very interesting and only one man can confirm, plus add insight.
It´s all yours Tom!
Not fact. Mlive erroneously posted an old article that said he was visiting Thursday.
Where did you see this?
So what if any news about the second situatution that Tom VH eluded to in the posts on Sunday evening? There was supposedly another probable commit for the end of this week not including Godin or Thompson. Also I thought this announcement was made previous to there being any rumors about Richardson??
Isn't it great to be able to be so greedy? Keep raking in the wealth of talent....
I want Richardson so bad... We can't lose him to the sec. He can be a great playmaker in the secondary.

Every set of pairs has one player from Michigan and one from Ohio.

..wasn't sure which thread though.
Matt Godin and Sheldon Day next??
