New commit coming soon?

Submitted by Nosce Te Ipsum on

I haven't read this anywhere on here but while Ross was on WTKA another recruit called in and said that he wanted to do the same. With Ross mentioning Richardson numerous times that would be my guess. With the LB corp all shored up it's time to move onto the DL and secondary for Mattison. I hope he never retires.

EDIT: I know that Godin and Thompson are supposed to commit next week (rather make their announcements) but specualtion has been that it will be somebody other than the two I have just mentioned.

Considering that the segment was recorded on the weekend (at least, that's what I got out of it), it would have to be someone who knew he was doing it that day (as the call came that way as well).  Also, did anybody else catch that Ross said he talked with Richardson before he called Mattison back and committed?  Hint maybe?

I don't get it.  Thompson is a 4*, #5 ranked TE and his best offer after Michigan is sparty?

Looking at it from a prospects perspective it would be nice to accumlate numerous mid to high end offers to validate the hard work that he has put in with regard to football. I still believe he commits to Michigan, however.

Michigan has 4 ESPU Top 150 WL prospects, all but one (Funchess) is on the Defensive side. That should be good enough for a top 15 class by ESPNU standards. Also, Michigan just cemented itself as head of the State when it comes to recruiting and we have until February 2nd of NEXT year to close this recruiting class out. I like the look of things right now in AA, great vibes coming from Michigan. Now for this next commitment.. My guess would be Richardson to fill a much needed corner slot for this years class. Then Godin and Thompson go blue May 12th?Geez... can you say MEGACLASS! GO BLUE

there were 344 players on the ESPNU Watch List.  So more than half won't be on the final.

FYI ESPN updates that frequently - I checked in Feb and again in March, and they'd made several changes.  Jonah Pirsig and Kelby Latta (MI) were removed, and Benny McGowan and Yuri Wright were added.  May have changed again in the last month

I still wanna know what Chris Barnett was talking about... "Kentucky in my eyes...". We all know Zeke Pike's mention of the "Mega Class" I can only hope he switches and gets Dorial Green-Beckham on board and my life would be complete.

this may be a longshot...but it could be adolphus washington... why? because he said he only visited osu and kentucky, and that is 'all he has seen'...and he hasnt visited michigan yet, and its not out of question for a recruit to love the coaches and commit without visiting. but i doubt it.

I agree I saw that as well on his twitter.  I tried looking at the offer list to see who we have offered from the state of Kentucky, and I only found one name: Zeke Pike.  While this does not mean that he is about to flip his commitment to us, we still have time to keep working him about becoming a part of the Big Blue.  We have plenty of time before signing day for Hoke, Borges, Barnett, and others (potentially Auburn sanctions) to convince him to switch, and I am sure he is keeping track of our "Mega Class" we are building so far without him.  I would love to see him switch, but the more big names we get like RJS, Ross, hopefully Richardson, Thompson can only help us.  Go Blue!

I had no idea Pike was going to skip college and go right to the NFL and play for the Giants. FYI - we are not Big Blue, that is Kentucky or the Giants. We are maize and blue, or more preferably, Michigan.

Yeah that silent commit is going to be most likely another defensvie recruit. I am willing to bet it is a DE, with my guess being either Chris Wormley (I'm from Toledo) or Pharoah Brown from Brush

I haven't been this excited about Michigan's defense since before that other guy was the coach.  My son loved Woodley and tried to emulate him on the field, but he's too young to remember watching Michigan play great defense year after year.

Whats the point of having Godin be a silent comittment when UM is a virtual Lock. Also, the same goes for Thompson. Both have almost comitted previously but decided to announce May 12th. So I feel the consensus that a silent comittment should be someone has slow played their recruitment and is going to comitt out of left field. Its going to be a suprise. Also, Godin would be our 1st DL recruit.. so there goes the theory about silent comitts only being "silent" to ensure a roster spot.

The silent commit, whomever it was, was originally committing silently, then going to take a couple visits, and then was going to make it public. The coaching staff told him to just take his visits and do the public thing afterwards if he still feels like thats what he wanted. In that situation, I can understand wanting to keep my commitment quiet so that I still got the red carpet rolled out at my visits.

If Godin he just finished a mini-tour of visits to enjoy the recruiting process bud. Kid deserves to enjoy the process and a silent commit allows that while holding your spot.

Richardson by far makes the most sense as his buddies are now Wolverines. Sparty has to feeling the pain . . . . they finally put together some moderate success: Big Ten Title, Beating Us several times, and winning out on the bigger recruits instate the last couple years (Gholston, and Thomas)  Enter Hoke and Staff and the state is ours again!!

Yeah, if you're Sparty, you can't be happy.   You've just had a season where you won a share of the Big 10 title.  Also, you've beaten Michigan three times in a row and Michigan is coming off of three dismal years.

And what does that get you?   You're already 0-5 in head-to-head battles (Braden, Funchess, Jenkins-Stone, Ross and Williams) against Michigan, with the very real danger of that falling to 0-8 over the next couple of weeks (Godin, Richardson and Thompson).   Not to mention the fact that you're trailing on a couple of players that Michigan seems to be doing really well with (Day, Diamond, Ojemuda and Wormley).

Now, it would take a lot for all of these things to fall into place, but if you just look at guys that have already selected Blue and where Blue is favored, it isn't impossible that Michigan could be up 12-0 in head-to-head matchups without even taking into account guys that are looking at both of them (e.g. Dodson, Kiel, Odenigbo and Pipkens among others).

While I'm not saying that Sparty should be our benchmark, it's still nice to see us beat them.

I am equally psyched about all of the defensive recruiting.  I think that in two years, we are going to be (1) playing with a talent advantage over most teams, and certainly playing with comparable talent when we go up against OSU / Neb / ND, and (2) playing primarily only upper-classmen, and (3) have significant depth (i.e. not 18 year old kids) on the bench as back-ups.  There is so much to look forward to on defense.

On offense, however, I am a bit concerned  (not very) that we will need to pick up the recruiting a bit.  We got 2 OL prospects, both solid, but have a need for (1) QB, (2) top flight "every down" RB, (3) some top flight WRs, and (4) another 1-2 OL.

Again, certainly nothing to worry much about, as we have a world of time.

We will have 8 scholarship runningbacks on the roster this fall including the 2 freshmen, with only Shaw expected to leave. The only way we take a runningback at all is if they are elite or if we have a spot to fill at the end and someone desperately wants to be a Wolverine.

No way do we take 2 with our needs in the trenches.

I think this puts Michigan in a very good spot for Richardson. No doubt. What I am curious about is Chris Barnetts previous statements, that were also somewhat confirmed by Tom, that we will be getting another big time recruit later this week or more probably this weekend. Barnett mentioned Kentucky alot which makes me believe it would have to be Pike, any thoughts here. Let the optimism begin after such a great day.
