New Basketball Uniforms?
I was in the MDen on State street today and came across these kids jerseys. Have we heard any rumblings about an alterntive jersey or a reason to wear a throwback type jersey like we did against penn state a few years ago. I personally love them and cannot wait for them to come out in the Mens sizes if they are indeed going to be worn on court.

Yep, those are throwbacks. When they will wear them is a mystery.

that's it? no crazy story or detailed analysis? no extra pics? I thought this was your bread and butter

Will you be purchasing a child-size mannequin to wear this in your uniform cave? Will you be fathering a child to sport this in the interim until adult sizes are available? Will you house your child in a glass case in your uniform cave? We need details!

Those look awesome. Who wants to buy me one?
December 8th, 2014 at 6:39 PM ^
they're a throwback to the 1989 national championship season.

Should be stocking 41 with that retro look. Who was 23, Demetrius Calip?
December 8th, 2014 at 8:09 PM ^
I believe it was Kirk Taylor, the guard who tore his ACL during the season.

Also, the dark away '89 unis looked, and hold up, better IMO. Here's another one that looks just fine (Nike logo marks it as throwback, but pretty close to the original):

Those are awesome because they're throwbacks, and actual throwbacks are awesome, especially when they're to championship seasons. But if we step back for a second and assess things honestly... those 1989 uniforms are hideous.
December 8th, 2014 at 6:53 PM ^
I agree. I'm partial to the Fab Five era jerseys though. Large M on the shorts.
December 8th, 2014 at 8:25 PM ^
Disagree - I think they're pretty cool. What's wrong with them?
I don't care for the big Adidas logo on the shoulder, though. I don't understand why the "amateur" NCAA allows manufacturers' logos to be front and center when the pro sports leagues don't.
December 8th, 2014 at 8:34 PM ^
But yeah, now it seems like a wierdly imbalanced design. But add "41" and it all seems right.
December 8th, 2014 at 6:51 PM ^
I wish our regular uniforms looked like that.

It's in the same general style as our 1989 throwbacks, but I think it's slightly different. I don't remember our throwbacks having the block M on the back collar, or that thick blue panel on the back neck.
It seems 1989-inspired but not an exact throwback.
PS-Could not find the last time we wore the '89 throwbacks for a comparison. If anyone has photos I would appreciate it. It seems the Penn State game where we wore throwbacks was our 1968 throwbacks. I know we have worn the '89s before but I don't remember when and against whom.

We wore the '89 throwbacks for the 2009 OSU game, IIRC.

Throwbacks are cool. Alternate shit that was made up by Brandon is not. I remember how it was just going to be a throwback because it was a special game against Notre Dame in 2011 and then bamn we secretly trotted out bumblebees against MSU, some other shit in another road game, and then for a 5th time we made up some random design for the bowl game then we started 2012 against Alabama with shitty stripes.
December 8th, 2014 at 7:03 PM ^
I'm in the minority on this, but I really didn't like the UTL uniforms (from 2011). I think people remember them fondly because we won, but if we had lost that game, those things would be regarded as every bit as awful as the bumblebees.
December 8th, 2014 at 7:22 PM ^
I think part of the reason the bumblebees were so bad besides the fact that they looked horrible was that it was kept a secret and DB knew people would go postal if they saw them and he wanted to alternate uniform every game damnit.

Those uniforms had stupid bumblebee sleeves too.
Without the silly sleeves they would have been somewhat fine I guess.

The big block 'M' on the front was great.
The stripes looked great under pads - but this has to be one of the worst looking jerseys on fans w/o the pads.
Class night and result.

Give me THESE. Touch up the collar and piping to be a little more modern and these are the best. Black shoes and socks would also be cool.

Why are you shopping in the kid's section?

I believe these to be the best alternate produced and should be the design of the jerseys worn by the current team. I think it's the perfect uniform.
December 8th, 2014 at 7:22 PM ^
The worst part is that they never made those jerseys for sale. Not even the socks!
I disagree, though. These are the best Basketball alternates. The Bleed Outs.
We almost wore these in the NCAA Tournament that year-

awful
December 8th, 2014 at 7:38 PM ^
I wasn't a big fan of those but they were much better than the ugly camo and sleeves. I am much more of a traditionalist, apparently. To each their own.

with a functional belt on the shorts like the originals.
I'm guessing that's not allowed any more.
December 8th, 2014 at 7:28 PM ^
I thought I read somewhere that those can't actually be used anymore because of an NCAA rule that requires the numbers to be centered.

Russell designed some uni's back in the day also. I believe the Fab5 uni's were Russell.

The jerseys are from the 1980s and Nike didn't design them.

The big block M first letter was something Missouri did for years before Michigan adopted it.. But, it's a great style uniform, and I've always liked it.

The Fab Five era jerseys are easily my favorite. Simple and clean. Just plain awesome. I suppose they'd have to have the B1G logo on them nowadays, but other than that i'd still prefer to go with that look. Once Hackett hires JH, he can start ironing (get it, a clothing pun) out all the uniform concerns.

We should wear the Cazzie Russell's...now, tomorrow, always and forever.
It should be our uniform the way Adidas schools Kansas, UCLA, Indiana, etc. have their uniform with only minor tweaks and updates.

Cazzie can keep the short shorts.
