rundown of Michigan's riser
New Alternate Michigan Basketball Jersey (More Maize)
I actually dont think these look that bad. I'm not a fan of 50 different uniforms like Oregon but my feelings wouldnt be hurt if Michigan wore these.
They're not that bad, up close, but thing is, from far away and on TV they're gonna look awful. See the pic above with Miami (I think it's Miami? Actually can't tell because they just look like plain red tank tops with red smears on the chest) wearing basically the same design concept.

You may not like that reason, and we can all say Martin made a horrible decision to take more money for a worse product, but that is still the reason. It's a seven year contract and it will be interesting to see what Brandin does. I have to believe the extra merchandise sales with Nike more than make up for the extra contract money fro Adidas. Hopefully that lesson has been learned.
It's all about the money. I worked for the sports marketing department when they made the switch and the high ups sat us all down and explained why we went Adidas.
The contract at the time was bigger than NDs and had a clause that would increase ours to match any college that signed a better deal with Adidas down the road. Pretty incredible.
But I'm with all of you who think the money isn't worth this derp fest. The ripping and mismatched jerseys are what kills me. Unacceptable.
Those Who Stay...
Really, really awful...

QUIT IT ADIDAS, YOU'RE DRUNK.
Denard has spent the offseason working really hard and smiling at people.
*SIGH*
Go Blue! Always!
OH THE HUMANITY!!!! When will it end?!?!?
WOW. That pretty much jumped right off my computer screen, heh.
Don't like it, personally.
This is where, if you're Dave Brandon, you say "thanks, but no thanks." Adidas being our exclusive outfitter doesn't make them our uniform overlords. And if it does, well, we got suckered.
Guys, it's basketball? Do you need to be able to clearly read the #'s while watching - wouldn't you know who's playing without the numbers? I never, ever, look at the numbers.

More of a maize color!
Wooooooo!
the NCAA doesn't mandate contrasting number colors on all of their team sport uniforms. After seeing the Kansas v. WVU game, these might actually make life tough on the officiating crew.
Go Blue!
they actually do mandate that the numbers are different/stand out from the jersey in the NCAA Rulebook. I don't have the direct citation in front of me, but technically all teams that wear this type of uniform would be in violation of this rule and the opposing team should be granted 2 technical free throws before the beginning of the game. No ref has granted these free throws this season, but it is in the rule book. But we all know how good the NCAA is at rule enforcement...
But apparently not hard enough:
b. A player number with Arabic numerals.
1. Each team member’s game jersey shall be numbered on the front and
back. The number shall be located in the neutral zone(s).
2. The following numbers are legal: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 00, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14,
15, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45,
42 Rule 3 / Players, Substitutes and Player Equipment
50, 51, 52, 53, 54, and 55. Team rosters can include 0 or 00, but not
both.
3. The numbers on the front and back of the game jersey shall be centered
horizontally in the neutral zone and be of the same color and style.
4. The number shall be at least 6 inches high on the back and at least 4
inches high on the front and not less than 1 inch wide.
5. Duplicate numbers are not permitted to be worn by members of the
same team.
6. The number shall be one single solid color that contrasts the neutral
zone and may be bordered by no more than a ½-inch border of any
color(s).
So does IU get to shoot for these uniforms or can they just force M to change out of them? It certainly seems like they're not in compliance with NCAA Article 5)b)6.
Go Blue!
The penalty is a 2-shot technical foul. I suspect the officials would give the option of changing shirts, but there's no requirement that they do so.
But now that I look more closely I see that Adidas seems to be holding to the tradition of having a slightly different shade of yellow for every uniform component. So I guess we can claim that the maize27 numerals contrast with the maize23 shirts and maize18 shorts.
I don't feel like I've done a lot of complaining about the "uniformz", but rolling one out that could be a direct competitive disadvantage is just dumb beyond belief. Regardless of the likelihood of it being an issue (IU has these too) on Saturday, relying on the good will of the referees and the opposing team to not apply the correct rule is stupid on a lot of levels.
People can say what they want about my tactics here, but if I'm an opposing coach I'm calling out every team I see wearing these. At best you get free shots and at worst you force them into the locker room to change uniforms while they spend that fifteen minutes focusing on complaining about having to change and calling me a bunch of bad names.
Go Blue!
...what these uniforms are, to me, is a middle finger extended in the direction of the officials, the scorers, the statisticians. They say that not only do we not appreciate their efforts (which at least in the case of the first two are pretty essential to the game itself), we're going to make their jobs as difficult as possible because...well, for no reason really., just because we can.
I come from that background as well, although not in basketball. I would not let a jersey like this on the ice, although admittedly I don't know what these officials are told by their supervisors and evaluators about what they can do to stop two multi-millionaire coaches from outfitting their top-five teams in what they want on national TV.
Go Blue!
Typical M Go Blog. Always whining about something. Get with the times. Alternate jerseys are the new "thing". It's not like its the end of the world. Personally, I like em. I liked the football uniforms as well. As long as the winged helmet doesn't change, big F ing deal. Thank god the numbers weren't on the helmets again. Anyhow, things could be worse. They could be camouflage. Cheer up. The sun will rise.
I agree. People on here are always whining about new jersey styles. That's what young recruits/players like! I don't think UM cares what 40-70 year old men like to wear. Obviously if it were up to a majority on here the teams would still be in uniforms from 1991.

They are wearing these on Saturday...get over it.
Two things:
1. At least these don't look like a TJ Maxx knockoff. I actually don't mind them, and I am usually a uniform curmudgeon.
2. It's basketball, not football. It's not like we have some great tradition of wearingthe same basketball uniforms year after year. We just got a brand new set this year. Plus, there are so many more basketball games in a season that the impact of wearing an alternate every now and again is not as pronounced.
These awful uniforms harken back to the days when there were no identifying marks on sports uniforms, so if you couldn’t identify a player by his body or facial features, or by the position he played, you had no idea who that player was. They’re more like the two-sided scrimmage jerseys that we would wear after coaches abandoned the shirts vs. skins practices.
Watch a game on TV when both teams are wearing these types of uniforms and you’ll see the blue team playing the white team, or the neon yellow team playing the red team.
Now you can’t even tell who the players are WITH a scorecard.
When teams wear these uniforms, they should have to use peach baskets hung on the backboards. And while they’re at it, let’s bring out the old Converse high tops and the short shorts and maybe even the satin warmup jackets and pants. And schedule City College of New York and NYU for one of the marquee telecasts. And maybe Dr. Emmett Brown and Marty McFly should be handling the broadcast and the broadcast should be done only in a grainy black and white. And no Gatorade or cups of water during breaks in the action, just drinks from a water fountain attached to a wall in the locker room or orange slices handed out by a player’s mom.
He'll be the one wearing the number 2 that looks like this:
Should we point instead of fist pump during the Victors?
I think they look pretty nice. They're obviously trying to bank off the NBA's Christmas Day jerseys.
You think these are bad? ND is wearing BLACK jerseys with black numbers with green outline. Absolutely nasty. You can see it in the 2013 adidas spring mag on page 57-
I love some of the gear in there. Especially the "All Michigan All Year" shirt.
When the ADept sells special jerseys and gear, you'll see my picture next to the targeted customer crowd. A sheep.....but a Blue one.....
...I was trying to psyche out a squad of 14 year olds at a Gus Macker tournament.
But this is Michigan.
I'm essentially an abused puppy at this point. I'll just put my tail between my legs and try to slink away while Dave Brandon, drunk on power, raises another empty beer bottle to throw at me. Maybe I'll just self-immolate outside of Brandon's office like those Tibetans.

How about white jerseys with white numbers and a white Michigan?
They're called wife beaters (of course they come adorned with a blue Addidas logo).
Should we point instead of fist pump during the Victors?
That jersey would be perfect if the number and letters were blue. In saying that I don't mind this one as much.
All in for some manball.
I have a feeling that these will not look terribly flattering on TV at all, but it might very well turn out to be the first time that anyone hears, "Never has a team looked as incandescent as this...". To be fair, however, if Adidas' complete collection catalog is to be believed, then Tennessee is in danger of looking like a team of orange Creamsicles when their "Bleed Out" jerseys are on the court, so at least more than one officiating crew will be calling offensive fouls on "that guy".
"Funny isn't it, how naughty dentists always make that one fatal mistake."

Unsurprising that the Adidas logo is important enough to be all blue, and thus the design element that stands out the most. The school name and player number are clearly not as important.
Aren't the top 3 teams in the county wearing all wearing Adidas? Throw on your Michigan Starter jacket and go shovel the driveway pops...and don't forget your heart pills.
Legibility be damned, I like these a lot. I just really wish MDen would sell basketball jerseys with stitched numbers/letters and not screen print.
UCLA had the best ones, though.
Brady...Hoooooooke!
last time I checked none of you are playing on the basketball team... if the kids enjoy playing in these, let them!
Indiana has these too. I woldn't be surprised if both teams wear them this weekend.

I've given up hope for awesome unis for the bball team.
