New Adidas Night Game T-Shirt Disaster

Submitted by icefins26 on

I just stumbled on this shirt on M Den.  Are they serious?  Did they get this idea from a circa 1999 Abercrombie t-shirt?  Unbelievable.  Who would buy this?  This is appalling.

Why?  So we can have camo "throwbacks" or maybe they could make an alternate uniform to look like wolverine fur (a la duck feathers)???

Both Adidas and Nike have the ability to produce very nice (and simple gear).  Adidas has "Originals" and Nike released a "Vintage" line.  Both companies are now churning out garbage for college athletics (consider Nike's terrible Duke jersey for another Ed Hardy-esque abomination).  The t-shirt that the OP linked to is ugly, but it's no worse than many other t-shirts being sold everywhere (including the student shirt).  As for me, I keep it simple.  I wear a plain "MICHIGAN" t-shirt.  No logo.  No graphic.

My inner high school junior thinks it's pretty cool.  In fact, do you want to see if one of our older siblings will buy us some beer and then sneak into an R-rated movie?

If they got rid of "it's better under the lights" and moved up and enlarged the rest of the stuff on the front of the shirt, it wouldn't be bad at all.

Normally I'm a huge fan of adidas, but c'mon man.

If you want to ask DB why he approved this just call him and say you're from the media. It doesn't matter what media. Say you want to do a spread for the Penny Saver. He will talk to you. The man craves the spotlight like a realty tv star.

That the Under the Lights logo is on the sleeve, meaning that this game, as you might expect, is branded just like the Big Chill.

It's a side effect of people getting all their ideas about Michigan from Brian, who has apparently spent so much time among people leaving anonymous comments on the internet that he actually believes stuff like this matters.

Mostly, I find it ironic that Mr. Brandon, so fiercely protective of the Block M as a brand, and yet is working with a marketing department in creating dozens of alternate logos for Michigan things.

It's slippery sloping.  OK, the Stadium Dedication Game, that makes sense.  OK, the Spring Game got a patch...wait, yes, OK, fine.  OK, the first Game under the Lights, that makes sense.  I just worry that at some point, every game is going to have a new patch because there is are marketing dollars to be made.

That's my primary problem.  I don't want people to buy this and wear it to the game because it's not maize.  I don't know if Notre Dame is officially a "maize out" this year, but maize absolutely shows up better at night than navy blue does.  Why would they not at least make it a maize shirt?

I hate it that the antecedent for "it" is not specified. So we're all left wondering what exactly "it" is that's "better" when lights are on. I guess that's the draw of the shirt? It's a riddle?

This design is not appealing to me.  It is typical east coast frat boy style, like someone said above.

In other night game /jersey news:

Saw our throwbacks today for the ND game and they r pretty impressive. All doubters just wait til u see them being worn

I understand that it's the first night game at the Big House.  But, I don't see why this is being made to be such a big deal.  It's a night game, they've happened every week for decades.

While I don't like the shirt I think the violent reaction to it is a little overdone. I mean it's not like it has striped sleeves...
