His dad played football at Brother Rice and Notre Dame, and his mom swam at MSU. Family has a lot of state of Michigan connections.

I don't have insider information or anything but it really depends on the family and the situation. Look at OSU for 2013. Fans were certain they were going to get Mike Heuerman and Jaylon Smith this year because both of their older brothers are on the team and yet both of them are going to Notre Dame. Sometimes you just want to blaze your own path in life, other times if you're really close it sounds like a great opportunity.
