I could easily see why OSU would be top 5, but putting them at #1 is ridiculous. Until proven otherwise, Alabama is the best team in America, hands down. Urban Meyer's crew, at this stage anyway, has no business even being in the same conversation as Nick Saban's.

#9, for now, is probably a little too high for us. Lots of talent coming in, but still pretty unproven, no #1 running back, no Jake Ryan for at least part of the season. I'd say 15-20 is where we belong to start the season off. A little shocked that Northwestern isn't a little higher. I've got a feeling Pat Fitzgerald's team will make some noise this year. Just hopefully not against us.

the unthinkable should happen and they get to the BCS title game I'd love to see Bama stomp their asses into mudholes, the same way they did the Irish.

Maybe Urban's heart problems will flare up again....

That being said there is no way Ohio beats us @ home this year.

But I would rather not have anyone else know about it.  It seems we always tend to do better if we start out in the range of 15-17 and slowly work our way up.  With the way our schedule is backend loaded we will have our chances if we take care of business at home.

Schlabach's reasoing is simply that he believes Ohio has the best chance of getting to the NCG.  While I disagree and think that's a dumb way to rank teams, if he using the ranking as a projection for who will finish the season #1, then he's not wrong--just silly.

As for his Ohio love?  It's not completely unfounded.  Washington was the only player to beat Lewan for a sack last year.  They return the Heisman Trophy favorite at QB.  We'll see if their defense can hold up, but their schedule is favorable...until they come to AA.

I do believe #9 is just about right for Michigan.  We are still too young along the O-Line and too uncertain at RB to be any higher.  I think we are a fringe top-ten team, and depending on how well our youth shows we could be vying for the NC or losing the Legends division again.

These 2013 preseason rankings are in no way too early considering that the first of these rankings come out on the day after the NC game. Now if they had been preseason rankings for 2014, I would have agreed that they might be a tad early.

The poll shouldn't come out until AFTER the 4th week of the season. We can do "imaginary" polls, stuff for the fans, but nothing official should come out until then.
