Need new board subtitle.

Submitted by Moe Greene on

We're closing in on one week until UCONN.

It's time to batten down the hatches.

Has "third and existential terror" gone away as a feeling we'll have on defense? Likely not.

But, what do we know?

* The team has rallied behind our glorious leader

* RR wants payback

* We have an incredible one-two punch at QB

All of these things are effectively new this year.

So, I'd like to propose a change in the board subtitle from the present "nevermind. PANIC aaaaeeeiieieie" to "Keep believing."

Because that's what we have to do.

Custer said "Come on, you Wolverines" while leading a Michigan regiment at the battle of Gettysburg.  He was out front on his horse (dressed in silk frill and a waivy hat) wielding his sword and yelling at his men to attack a Confederate group that outnumbered them 4-1.  Some credit Custer's men with turning the battle in the North's favor (and further argue that Gettysburg victory was the turning point for the whole war)

All "Last Stand" issues aside, I think his quote is very appropriate for this year.

What are you? A motivational poster? Hang in there, baby?

Don't you know this board is for baseless Myocardial Infarctions? In fact, the current subtitle is not nearly down enough. I'm thinking something more like, "Leave now to be first to the funeral."

(I'm actually not, because I'm excited and confident for the season like everybody else, but the opportunity to call you a motivational poster was just too great.)

...For a positive subtitle. Realism works too. I think the "Take it like a man" tag was good. BUT, I think the current "panic" tag should be changed because it is just too whiny. Why not just go with teardropped emoticons? Self-deprication is fine (and warranted), but have some damn pride.

"History is written by the victors."

"I am easily satisfied with the very best."

"If you're going through hell, keep going."

"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts."

"This is no time for ease and comfort. It is time to dare and endure."

"..without victory, there is no survival."

"We shall show mercy, but we shall not ask for it."

Wait until after the UConn game. We'll have a lot better idea of what it should be then.

Close win: "Back on track."

Blowout win: "Death Butterfly, bitches."

Close loss: "Just win, baby."

Blowout loss: "Oh sorry, didn't see you there. Can't talk, I'm busy choking on a shotgun barrel."

I love to win. Love it. Football is just too hard and too tough if you’re not successful. This isn’t just recreation, and the sport isn’t for everybody. I just don’t want to expend all this time and effort and come up short.

I have no idea where it's from, but I think "This isn't just recreation" sums up how most of us feel about Michigan sports.

“When your team is winning, be ready to be tough, because winning can make you soft; on the other hand, when your team is losing, stick by them.  Keep believing.” - Bo

If you're going to change it, my vote goes to "Keep believing."  But I'm cool with what it is now, as well.
