Nebraska has shown everyone a lot with how well their defense has played. If only their offense could step it up and get some points on the board that don't involve their kicker. If anyone saw the halftime show it was pretty funny how bad those girls were at throwing the football but that was not what stood out. Dana Jacobson is one fat lady. I thought she was decent prior to seeing her on the field interviewing the winner. Whew
Nebraska Vs. Texas
Suh is a monster.
as is Dana.
I thought she was kind of hot back in the day but it seemed to all go downhill for her after the vodka laden rant she went on at the ESPN roast of Mike & Mike where she went on to swear abouth Notre Dame and just about everything catholic she could. I thought it was funny but aparently a lot of catholics didn't. I am catholic and thought it was ironic since most catholics look forward to Lent and the weekly fish fries and summer picnics where everyone consumes as much alcohol as possible.
...is a freaking monster and one man wrecking crew.
Did anyone else see him hold off the Texas lineman with one arm and sack McCoy with the other arm?
He is more than deserving of every piece of defensive hardware he has been nominated for.
I don't care who you are or how you feel about Nebraska, if you don't like the way this young man plays, you don't like football.
End of story.
Sadly, will not get an invite to New York next Saturday. Stupid voters.
Rolando McClain should be getting one too.
That halftime contest set women's rights back 50 years.
Kinda ironic, under Callahan, Nebraska had a really good offense but terrible defense, and now under Pelini, they have the exact opposite. Maybe NE fans will forgive Callahan and bring him back to be the offensive coordinator.
trust me, we all want texas to win. a bama v. tcu or cincy national championship game will give us nothing more than a quarter of entertainment.
If NU wins, Cincinnati may make the title game, and that could persuade Kelly to turn down the ND job. I'll take that over an exciting final.
not so fast. for whatever reason, tcu has a stronger ranked schedule and is currently ahead in the polls. is a one point win over pittsburgh (and based on a botched extra point) going to be enough to move them ahead?
I'd expect the voters to put them at #2. They're Big East champs, which carries more weight than MWC champs.
and that might be a good call.
...i heard something on espn radio a moment ago where freddie coleman and mel kiper were saying that voters in the last week are more concerned with the national championship matchup than with the strength of the season. the strange/scary thing, however, was that they both thought this was something that would be in TCU's favor.
I'm not going to lie and say I've watched a lot of TCU games this year, but seriously?
I'm not lying. I've seen about five of TCU's games this year and that is one solid football team. I believe they've beaten four teams that are currently ranked. Florida has beaten ONE.
hmm...that makes a texas loss much more interesting. i didn't realize that they had beaten 4 ranked teams. i looked at their schedule and saw that only two teams they had beaten were ranked at the time. i wish i would have watched more of them so i had more to say...
since you've watched them a few times, you might be able to answer another question i had regarding TCU. how serious a candidate do you think gary patterson is for the hc-ing job at notre dame? i heard that they really preferred a defensive minded coach.
I hope Gerg is taking notes for next year.
Note #1: Recruit more kids named "Ndamukong"
...I think we can say that the Blackshirts are definitely back.
Nebraska will terrorize the Big 12 for the next decade if Pelini assembles an offense that is half as solid as his defense.
McCoy's stock is falling, but he is a very good short field punter.
Texas literally should kneedown three times and punt and make the Nebraska offense beat them.
What a bullshit PI penalty. How the hell can you call that?
That call was pure BS.
Nebraska Defense 2007: #112
Nebraska Defense 2008: #55
Nebraska Defense 2009: #11
Yes, apparently he is reading the scroll at the bottom of the screen.
...I would argue there is never going to be another Dr. Tom. Just like there will never be another Bo, Crisler, Yost, Lombardi, Bryant, Hayes, Rockne, Bowden, Paterno, or Stagg. Those guys were literally lightning in a bottle, and I think it's ultimately counterproductive to hope to see another similar coaching talent in your lifetime.
Based on this game, and the other bits and pieces of Nebraska I've seen this season, I believe that this Nebraska defensive unit is worthy of the Blackshirt label.
Obviously it will be a huge challenge for Pelini to replace Suh, but I think this season, and Suh's probable NFL success, will give him some pretty solid momentum on the recruiting trail.
Are you fucking kidding me? That is another bullshit PI penalty.
Nebraska has been on the wrong end of two very bad PI calls. I hate Nebraska, but I hate bad PI calls more. (However, I hate bad roughing the passer calls even more.)
Are you saying they were uncatchable? If not, you can't push the receiver in the chest without getting a PI call.
Yeah, it looked to me like both were uncatchable. The first was particularly egregious -- it looked more like a throwaway than a pass.
Great punt return. Too bad the offense can't do anything with it
Nebraska's offense is way too predictable.
I feel like I'm watching a Mike DeBord-coordinated offense, only minus the talent.
pelini just did the bill lynch gum throw
2.5 out of 5 Bill Lynch's. Pelini wasn't furious enough.
Nebraska Offense: #92
This makes last years Sheridan lead offense look unstoppable.
It kind of baffles me that Texas hasn't been able to do anything against N the entire game. I mean, this is ridiculous.
Why would you blitz on third and 16 when your d line has been getting pressure on its own?
Did Herbstreit really bring up the Heisman for McCoy? Come on, he's not even close to being the best player on the field.
UT may run out the clock.
Yeah. Come on Nebraska.
Wow, shades of Donovan Warren.
BCS collpase is approaching.
That noise in the background of this game is most of Gainesville cheering for the Huskers to pull this off and give the Fighting Tebows a chance at the NC game.
I'll be so damn happy if Nebraska wins this.... I've never liked Mack Brown, or Texas for that matter
Please make this field goal Nebraska, PLease.
This will be the biggest kick of this kid's life.
Too much time left. I'm worried.
I like UT more than Nebraska, so I hope they win. But I wouldn't mind seeing TCU vs Alabama.
But we've seen this end-game scenario many, many times.
1. BOOM! that's the noise of Colt and Tebow falling PDF the first round today.
2. I hope Texas doesn't win.. There's no way they score on Bama..
3. If Nebraska wins only on field goals.. I'll lol
Speaking of jinxes...
Read my post again.. I didn't jinx them..
At no point did I imply the game was over..
Man, that was a bad kickoff. Shades of Patriots-Panthers Super Bowl.
Why kick ball out of bounds?
Either Colt wins the Heisman in the next 1:44 and sends UT to the MNC or down in flames for both of them.
No way in hell does he win the Heisman for that "drive."
Bad, bad, bad. Really? Settle for a long FG attempt?
Saturday this has been.....
LES MILES CLOCKWORK. What are they thinking.
Let's see TCU and Alabama go head-to-head. I'd love to see 'Bama lose back to back bowl games against a MWC team. Just sayin'
In any case, what a game, eh?
Charlie didnt get a review.
Texas does not deserve to win after that.
That was an absolutely horrible last few plays by Texas. I understand that they want to run the clock down, but that was an incredibly risky last play.
Please miss this kick.
THE dumbest play ever. texas almost cost themselves a BCS championship berth with that beauty
They should have rolled that last second on general principle.
If Texas plays Alabama, expect 3-of-4 for the SEC.
CMU kicker style.
Never should leave a timeout on the board in this situation. Worse than the Miles game management in my opinion.
What a great game!
Did you watch the first 55 minutes?
so no. I just saw the last quarter. But a game winner with a long field goal is always awesome.
...will destroy Texas.
Mark it down.
Texas will deserve the whuppin it receives from Alabama.
Agreed. They needed a last second FG against no22, and Bama smashed the (probably overranked) no1 team.
Oh man, I hope Texas is ready to be bulldozed for 4 quarters. They look horrible against a very good defense; Alabama's defense is going to grind them up all day. Ugh, another overrated opponent for the SEC to cream and "prove" how great a conference it is.
What a disgrace of a game. Nebraska got jobbed in a way I don't think I have ever seen. I hope Bama tears them apart in Pasadena.
Are you disputing the 1 second call or something else? It looked like the right call to me.
It just seemed like there were quite a few "questionable" calls throughtout the game that helped Texas. In the end the guy who kicked off for Nebraska lost them the game. I usually don't think one player is the sole reason for a team's failure to win but he was in this instance.
That and the horse-collar penalty. Texas got it by the skin of their teeth and IMO earned the win, but they really couldn't have had any more breaks go their way on the final drive.
Wow. Could you imagine being the Nebraska team running on the field thinking you won the championship, only to have it ripped away 2 minutes later?
I feel soooo badly for Nebraska. This was their game...they got robbed.
Sweet redemption seeing Nebraska come out on the field thinking they'd won, and then have to hoof it back to watch themselves get beaten.
That is pretty callous. This isn't the same Nebraska that we had to share a MNC with. This team deserved to win and to get joy out of that is ridiculous. Grow up
Has nothing to do with the National Championship, and everything to do with the Alamo Bowl. I was there. It sucked.
And if they deserved to win, they wouldn't have done everything they could to help Texas get into field goal range. They basically handed UT 40 yards of free yardage between the kickoff and the horse collar.
Ok, substitute Alamo Bowl for MNC. You're jaded bc they beat us in a bowl that happened almost 4 years ago?
It's called historical Schadenfreude. Sorry, I'm not a Nebraska fan...
Why can't we learn from Nebraska?
It is obvious a tough D can make spread look like middle school scheme. Hats off to a great game by Nebraska. Their linebackers had speed and made plays - Ezeh and Mouton please see this game x 100.
I think an elite defense can make any offense look horrible. Look at Alabama vs. Utah or Alabama vs. Florida, or USC vs. anyone from the Big 10. Talented defenses can make offenses work for their points.
The only saving grace for Texas will be that Alabama has a pretty simple/predictable offense. Sure, they have some wrinkles that can flummox a team, but Texas has a great defense as well. I still think Alabama will run through them in the end, but the more I think about it Alabama has the type of offense that is going to have a hard time moving against Texas. We might have another 13-10 score for the MNC.
Well it proved that an elite defense is better than an elite offense. If Nebraska's offense would've had a pulse they would've come out on top tonight. It may not be pretty but I think that between the Bama/Florida and Texas/Nebraska games we found that defense is more important than offense.
One game doesn't prove anything. In recent years we've seen plenty of strong defenses get ripped apart in the national title game. The safest conclusion we can draw is that you have to be solid on both sides of the ball to win it all, and may have to rely on either one at times.
Nebraska got so many bad breaks from the refs.
I could care less about Texas vs. Alabama.
Wow, heartbreak for the entire state of Nebraska. Boy, the MNC game is going to be a serious mismatch; Nebraska's defense is good, but Alabama's defense is even better. Texas will be slaughtered.
I was thinking the same thing, but Alabama's offense is nothing to write home about, and Texas's defense looks to be one of the better ones in the country. This might be a defensive struggle/offensive ineptitude type game. Still, I have very little interest in the outcome. It would have been fun if Cincy or TCU had made a run.
Hard to feel bad for Nebraska. I am still bitter about their Osborn retirement gift fake share of the NT.
They got 30 free yards... Take those away and Nebraska wins...
Kicking it out of bounds.... what a frigging idiot...
I wanted that last second off the clock so badly just to see the meltdown Texas fans would have had. That would have been epic.
Texas didn't deserve to win that game. Move TCU or Cincy in front of them, please.
Just goes to show you anyone* can make it to the title game!
*"Anyone" does not include conferences outside of the SEC and Big 12. All contestants must be undefeated unless we change our minds.
Whether they deserved to or didn't, they won it. Isn't the main beef people have w/ the BCS is it doesn't allow what happens on the field to decide things? Like it or not, Texas got it done on the field. They deserve to play Alabama.
If TCU doesn't like it, they should move to a better conference.
And as for Cinci... They have no case. They're not in an elite conference and beat Pitt today by the skin of their teeth, and barely beat UConn a few weeks ago.
If you want to call for a playoff, go ahead and make that case. But under the current system, saying TCU or Cinci should jump over Texas is absurd.
The B12 was down this year. Cincy's best 2 wins were at Pitt and at Or State. That is better than Texas' best 2 wins (at Ok State and vs Okla). The rest is a wash, imo.
I don't have stats to prove it but my guess is that the B12 (and esp. the B12 south where Texas plays) is a better league top to bottom than the Big East, even though they are definitely down this year. The middling Big East teams probably aren't as good as the middling B12 teams.
In the Big East, their best are Cinci, Pitt, WVU.
B12 best are Texas, Ok St., and I guess Nebraska. Although they also have Texas Tech, and Texas A&M who looked good against Texas... Who else does the Big East have? Rutgers? UConn? Those teams are pretty good, but probably lose to Texas Tech or A&M... As far as strength of schedule goes, even if it's not huge, Texas still has the edge, IMO.
Damnit that would have been the sweetest way to lose a game, McCoy is an idiot for first dicking around in the pocket, and then tossing a floater out of bounds.
A new classic move: the Reverse Spartan Bob
Gary Danielson will be so happy with this matchup--Florida will destroy Texas, Tebow will account for 7 TDs and earn himself the #1 overall pick in the draft and--wait, what do you mean Florida's not in the title game? That's not what it says in the script CBS gave him. Wow, a lot of wasted time and Tebow BJs, now he's got some catching up to do with Mark Ingram...
He was consoling Tebow in the showers after the game.
It's true, I have a picture to prove it... Perhaps I'll post it later...
Who shed more tears in the 4Q: Tebow or Danielson?
There was still time left on the clock when McCoy threw it away. You can't cheat a team out of a second when there's still time on the clock. They made the right call and the kicker put it through for the winner.
I agree there was still 1 second left, but that's some of the worst clock management I've ever seen at the end of a game. Let alone a game needed to reach the national title
There was time when he threw it away, but he tossed it so casually that it nearly expired - and actually, it's pretty routine for an extra tick to go off after the play ends (which is what happened the first time around). It wasn't a bad call, but Texas was fortunate to get that second back.
Watching the replays on that I was curious what the rule is... Does the clock stop when the ball crosses the sideline, or when it hits the ground? Anyone know?
To truely tell we would have to see an overhead view.
Wow, Zac Lee's stat line is Sheridanesque: 6-19, 39 yds, 3 INT.
I don't know why they didn't try that other QB. I know he was a freshman but as you've just shown, he couldn't of done much worse.
The one part of Texas game that'll hurt them is RB play. When the run game isn't there, the pass game will suffer. Just ask Colt tonight.
That's the problem. Texas' run game is non-existant, and McCoy has had to carry the whole team on his shoulders this year. The two competent defenses that UT played this year was Oklahoma and Nebraska, and they scored 16 and 13, respectively. Alabama's D is on par with Nebraska's D, if not better. Bama's offense may not be a world beater, but Alabama's offense destroyed a very good Florida defense (top 5 in the nation). I see Alabama winning 24-10 over Texas, as Bama's D will be too much for Texas' one-dimensional offense.
Someone correct me if i'm wrong but weren't we on the short list for Rex Burkhead?
is going to get blown out by alabama. they havent looked good all year outside of their game at Oklahoma state.
Yep, I wonder what the line will be. I'm seriously considering putting some $ on Bama
that might very well go down in history as the greatest kick of all time!
Beat Texas. I truely think Alabama has had the best football team all year long. I had a feeling they would beat Florida and now I can shove in my co workers faces who laughed at me.
1. It's "truly" - no "e"
2. Talking trash to co-workers about a game not even involving your school is dumb. Don't do it.
Texas played nobody in their Non-conference schedule this season. Why does Texas deserve to go to the BCS title game over Cinci? Cinci atleast had a road game at Oregon St. How many Big 12 teams lost to mid-majors this season? Is Texas really deserving of a shot at the BCS title based on their pre-season ranking? If so, this entire BCS system is a fraud!
i was going to make a thread about this but then i realized it would be completely redundant - honestly, college football needs a playoff, or at least a play-in game.
my god, i will watch the NC game and think to myself "these arent the 2 best teams playing" - same thing last year when Oklahoma jumped texas.
the system is flawed. too much of it is based on pre-season expectations, which are even more flawed. people predicted big12 champion and sec champion without thinking that, perhaps, THREE other teams including one from a big6 conference could go undefeated....
