Nebraska LB Zaire Anderson out for the season
Nebraska LB Zaire Anderson tore his ACL and is out for the season. He was one of Nebraska's highly touted JUCOs and was supposed to fill the void at LB after Lavonte David graduated. This coupled with sudden departure of DT Chase Rome raises some question marks for the Huskers on defense.

Tough break for Anderson and for Nebraksa.
With Crick going down last season, Rome leaving, and this injury, could we be seeing the early signs of an Angry Nebraska Run Defender Hating God?

Ugh. That sucks, obviously, and the Big Ten is getting bombed by injuries right now. Fortunately, we have a bunch of super-elite, powerhouse teams, so that shouldn't...
oh.

Crazy # of injuries it seems compared to last few years.

just went from bad to worse. UCLA just torched them, and we're going to run all over them.
I can't believe how many injuries the BigTen has had this year, it seems every school has their angry deity competing for who can take out the most people.

Second year in a row I pick the Huskers to win the B1G, second year they get torn up by injuries.
It keeps looking more and more like the Paul Bunyan game may be the de facto B1G Title game...

Tough break for Nebraska. Again. Just dont pick Michigan next year, pretty please.

Not to be confused with anything because Zaire doesn't exist anymore (the place does, don't worry, but not the name!) BOOM!
Orrrrr, not to be confused with the Democratic Republic of the Congo!, would be the way to play that

Gotta feel for that young man. He transfers from Juco, gets what's probably his dream of playing for a major program like Nebraska, and then gets injured in week 3.
I just hate to see something like that happen.

I fear what our LBs chasing Shoelace is going to look like.
Senior Alonzo Whaley (slow, experienced) and redshirt freshman David Santos (fast, inexperienced) will fill in. If we're going to burn a shirt and he is ready 4-star Jared Afalava is who I would pick.
Medical RS for Anderson in this case should be a no-brainer......

LB corps can be described as slow, injured, or untested

Afalava looks more like a DB or WR to me. I think Spanky has more of the LB body type.
Best wishes to Anderson on a full recovery.

That sucks. I'm sure Nebraska will recover and still find a way to blow some games this year.
September 19th, 2012 at 1:19 AM ^
Hopefully, Nebraska can get past Anderson's injury to still beat Sparty and Ohio. Even if their team is worse, their fans are far and away better.

still needs the offense to outscore the opponents, as their defense in not even close to what it once was. Certainly the recent string of injuries haven't helped the defense, but Michigan was able to shut down their offensive rushing game last year and thus was able to control the ball and the game. IMO - their offensive line will be the key to Nebraska's success this year - not the defense.
Go Blue!

Hopefully, Anderson recovers fully, is back on the field next season and is allowed a medical redshirt as well. He looked pretty good in what I saw of the Arkansas State game, so I imagine that Pelini was looking at him to play WLB with some regularity and possibly even line up as an OLB if they decided to incorporate 3-4 schemes as had been talked about last week. Regardless, it seems like Anderson was in the plans and this is a tough loss for the defense.
