Nebraska Fans at Game

Submitted by BlizzardOfOz on

There were several articles and posts leading up to this week's game regarding the Nebraska fans.

Most of the content covered how well they travel and how dedicated they are.

I wasn't able to make it to the game. Anyone have first hand experience with the Cornhusker fans tailgating and during the game? Please share.

And I don't want to offend anyone who is in the band because I gotta believe that they work very hard.
But, with many Nebraska fans never being to the big house ever, I wish they could have went more traditional.. I mean I understood and recognized a lot of the material, but unicorns? Unicorns at the big house? Just odd choice.

Half the ones by me were cool, some were total A holes. One guy every other word was either B or F'ers directed at us. His hot little wife/gf however was more than welcome in section 4.

Clearly better than tosu or mSU or even ND.

Some of the best in game conversation I've ever heard at Michigan Stadium from the two Nebraska guys behind us. Insightful, funny, not reactionary. I almost felt bad we were on opposite sides. Every Nebraska fan I encountered was polite, told us how much they loved the Big House and that they were excited to come back in 2013, hopefully to a better result. Pure class Nebraska fans, kudos to you.

on the way to the game. They politely moved over as I blew by them in the passing lane, much like Denard and Fitz did on the field.

I talked to severasl during and after the game and they were very nice despite the beat down. Easch one said they were treated well and enjoyed being at the game besides the outcome.

My brother and I are planning on going to Lincoln next year.

They're weren't any more Nebraska fans there than there are opposing fans during a typical big game at Michigan stadium. I have to say, I was kind of disappointed (but not really).

The only negative thing I can recall is a large portion of them in the South endzone upper area booing Kovacs when he was injured and walked off the field. I think they thought he was faking the injury.

As soon as I walked in my first reaction was, "Wow, I expected there to be more Nebraska fans here."

There were as many Nebraska fans as there are MSU fans for that game, or PSU fans for that game, or ND fans for that game, and they certainly didn't have as many fans as OSU does when they come to the Big House.

The fans were indeed nice. In my section, none of them were vocal toward the Michigan fans and basically minded their own business pretty well.

With regard to the Michigan Marching Band halftime performance: I thought it was by far the WORST one I've ever seen in my 11 years of attending Michigan games. Just awful. I can't blame the Nebraska fans for complaining about that. I usually enjoy them but this was just painful.

As I kinda mentioned above, the Nebraska fans around me were really disappointed.

They said they had heard great things about our band and were excited, but it was all overshadowed by the videos.

They did say seeing Blue touch the banner was awesome.

The Husker fans by me in section 3 were great, all game. However, they were also disappointed by the halftime show. I could only say that it was the worst halftime performance I have ever seen. It may have looked like a good idea on paper, but the combination of video watching and the band did not work out. Plus I would bet that the vast majority of people have not seen those videos. That seemed out of character for the MMB. Hopefully, next weeks will be better.

I played beer pong and cornhole with about 10-12 different Husker fans and found every single one to be knowledgeable, amicable, and generally cool. Plenty of good natured ribbing among all of us. They are right alongside Texas as far as fun fanbases to interact with, in my experience. I am looking forward to Michigan playing in Lincoln very much.

The few Husker fans in our row were respectful. They cheered when they ripped off a good play but they acted with class when the game clearly turned toward our side. At first, I was like oh shit, neb. fans in our row, but it was cool. They mocked the halftime show, but the M fans in our row disliked it just as much.

They turned out in decent numbers, as all the other posts above stated.

There were a ton of Nebraska fans in Arbor Brewing Company last night - a bus brought them there - and they all seemed very nice and pleasant . Not at all obnoxious.

on my way out, I was walking alongside a group of fans who said they loved their trip to Ann Arbor. I overheard them say how they really liked the city, the stadium and our fans. They then commented on how horrible Wisconsin was.

Love hearing things like this so kudos to our fans.

Does anybody remember the good old days when you were 19, and you banged your girlfriend during her time of the month while choosing condoms as your primary contraception, and then there was that ring of redness around the base of your junk?

Many years later, thats what I thought of when I saw the pan shot of the stadium. Just sayin'.

Fans both in front of and behind us were very classy, had some good conversations with them. They were very complimentary of the marching band's pregame show, not so much of the piped-in music. I agree. They also can't stand OSU, so they have really gotten the hang of this B1G thing.

There were a ton of them. The ones I talked to were very friendly and gracious, even after the game. They seem like a classy bunch. I was already glad Nebraska joined, but meeting some of their fans who made the trip reinforced my positive impression of NU.

some of the best fans (Iowa fans a close second). They really love their team and know the game very well.

During the video of LC after the boards came back up, when Lloyd was speaking to the team after the Rose Bowl game, "you just won the National Championship" some of the NU fans sighed. Overall, NU to the B1G is great.

A group of them joined our tailgate for the last hour and they were great. They are very comparable to the Iowa Fans we encountered two weeks ago.

But there were a lot in town. The lines to the South U bars were very red last night. Today it was one of the bigger road crowds I've seen in awhile. But they didn't have a lot to cheer about. They seemed alright. One guy after the game was trying to argue how some site said Nebraska would have been 12 point favorites in '97, but whatever. They needed a 28 point spread just to push today.

their team played better. But they seemed to be having a good time. Also pure class all the way. Not one rude comment or anything.

Next to Indiana my favorite Big Ten fanbase I think. We'll see how the trip to Lincoln goes next year.

Seconded all of the above posts. Many got to the Big House early, Wanted their pictures taken, smiling, even after the final score, A great and passionate fanbase, glad to have them.

seem to be very nice! I lived in Omaha for a few years in the mid 90s and had a great time. Really nice folks in NE. My favorite road trips were to watch Michigan play at Iowa. Never had any problems with the home crowd in IA City. I look forward to attending the MI vs NE game in Lincoln next season!

FTR...MSU, IL and OSU have been the worse fans to deal with when visiting their stadiums.

My seats are on section 42 row 19 and we had Nebraska fans behind us. We all thought this game could go either way but just wanted a good football game. South end zone uppers were all red as was north end zone center. Other than that they were all spread out with good numbers. They were cool at Pioneer HS and I had a couple of beers with them. Got along great with the fans behind us. They knew their football and were very respectful. I hugged the old lady behind me once we were kicking their asses and we joked about the whole thing. It would be nice to have rivals that aren't total slappy asses who think that were are arrogant and delusional all while they are being arrogant and delusional. Truth is and this hurts, is that the only fans I saw being total asses were some of our own who were acting like State and tSIO fans.

Great Win....Go Blue

I'm from Omaha and now go to Michigan so I had some HS buddies at Lincoln come up for the game. While they really enjoyed Ann Arbor, I did not like the way they were treated by the surrounding fans. Multiple rude comments about the foam cornheads, unprovoked F you to the face after exiting the stadium, and refusing to let them get on a bus when there was plenty of room. They are some of the most knowledgable football fans I know, so it is ashame to hear the crap they were putting up with.

I've been to plenty of Husker games at Memorial Stadium, and I can't dispute the sign reading "Through these gates walk the greatest fans in college football". Nebraska is known for cheering the visiting bands, and welcoming everyone (except maybe Texas).

Drowning out the visiting roster with "who cares", chanting "you suck" and booing the band really leaves a bad impression of the students and other Michigan fans. Maybe it's just because I went to school with some Nebraska players, band members and fans, but I always try to treat fans the way I'd like to be treated. I look forward to possibly making the trip to Lincoln next year.

I'm proud to attend the University of Michigan for reasons far beyond football, but it is dissapointing when I have to struggle to defend the actions of my fellow students and fanbase. We're classier than that.

Kids will be kids. Just shrug and say you're right, but that's as bad as it gets.

I did my part and told all the Huskers to travel in packs when they're in Columbus.

On a side note, it took me a while to figure out that the "Husker-Power" chant wasn't making fun of our electricity issues.

I sat literally right next to the big contingent in the South endzone. It was nice to hear that they too have that one guy who complains about the QB and wants the back up in.

We had two behind us and one next to us. The younger one next to us kept making annoying scoreboard comments and seemed a bit negative in Q1. He quickly calmed down and was fine. The two behind us were very classy and definitely knew their team well. I would welcome them all back.

I was in section 1 right down front at the tunnel and there was a Nebraska fan that almost caused a fight because he was elbowing a woman in the face. I've been going to Michigan games since I was a kid and it was the closest I've been to seeing an actual fight inside the stadium. I've seen fights outside stadiums and once inside one at a world cup, haha but never at The Big House.

The Nebraska fan was maybe 50+, had a greyish black beard and when Nebraska was coming through the tunnel for halftime he pushed his way to the front of the railing effectively shoving a woman into her 3 kids who were already there out of the way a little. The man lifted his right hand and was fist pumping yelling "GO HUSKERS" and stuff like that into the womans face and elbowing her in the head as he fist pumped. The woman was telling him to knock it off and let me tell you - this husker fan was VERY unreasonable from my point of view. I kinda just thought it was good people watching until the woman's husband (I think?) put his cape on and challanged the older man to a fight. Thankfully the woman who was being abused said something like, "He's not worth it, please honey don't hit him" and by then Michigan was coming through the tunnel so the guy had no reason to be yelling. Pretty crazy. That same guy had a woman with him that wouldn't stop yelling at the top of her lungs about Burkhead for the entire 1st half. There was a really funny Michigan fan that heckled this bearded Nebraska guy for the rest of the game. I actually talked to the Nebraska guy later in the game though and he DID seem pretty nice - he let my buddy use his ipad to look at a Wisconsin score because he heard us talking about it. I guess it was just a case of a guy being SUPER passionate and getting carried away because the rest of the game he seemed ok. Then again, Nebraska was getting killed so that probably had a lot to do with it.

ALSO: Dom Raiola was yelling the "F" word to fans throughout the entire first half sitting in the first couple rows. I have no idea why (probably was being taunted by them) but Raiola was making a HUGE deal to go after this group of fans. I had never seen that before at a sporting event. Suh was standing next to him and didn't do a thing. Just interesting is all...

Lastly, I had a few pickup trucks of Nebraska fans park in my lawn and 'tailgate' and they were all SUPER cool. Not a single one of them were rude or weird. Overall I respect fans that have a lot of passion, but sometimes that line is a thin one - and like someone else said - jerks are everywhere.
