if the Big 12 doesn't survive the weekend, who is left to impose or collect penalties for the early exit? and I am sure the lost TV revenue for a lame duck Big 12 season or two would probably exceed whatever penalty might be assessed.

The Big 12 needs 9 votes to dissolve the conference.  Right now, they have 5 (Colorado, Nebraska, Ok State, OU, and TTech).  2 more can and/or will join them within the week (UT, A&M)  There is the potential that the Big Ten will tell Missouri its in.  Even with all of this, you still only have 8 schools that would potentially make an exit.  Each of these 8 schools would have to pay a $10 million exit fee.

Looking at the remaining schools, there's no way any of them are getting serious enough buzz about joining a big boy conference in 2011 to forgo their $20 million each payout.  Nobody likes ISU and Baylor, and while Kansas and K state might go to the Big East or something, I'm sure they won't mind the extra 20 million for being independent for a year.

I wonder what the process and timeline is to get from a "presumed" title game to a scheduled-gonna-be-one-no-matter-what title game?
