Neb-Iowa game to be called "The Heroes Game", submit your own for the rest
How does Nebraska-Iowa become "The Heroes Game"? I guess Chilren of the Corn has a copyright. Since this seems so retarded and completely made up, I wonder if this tweet from CBS is not completely accurate http://twitter.com/#!/McMurphyCBS/statuses/96915912682250241.
If these guys can claim Heroes, I say it is time to reopen the naming for other trophy games in the conference. Not sure if you have any better ideas, but there has to be a few marketing majors on the board..
They should have named it Farmagedon.
We have a winner!
We have a winnar.
I suppose they could have also gone with Battle for the Last Pork Rind or Hogsterbation.
AANNNDDD the thread is won on the first post. well done
The Iowa State-Kansas State game is already called Farmageddon.
You won on the first spin. Nicely done. +5 fake points.
The Corn v. Wheat Classic or the Hoedown
Winner gets a Hay stack.
Cornucopia
Cornapaluza
I'm a little partial towards the title "If you don't like either of these teams then you probably don't care or won't watch unless there is nothing else on TV game"
That might be hard to fit on a T-shirt. You have to think branding!
Very good point!
The Heroes Game is real. See this Omaha World-Herald article. They have a logo (see below) and a sponsor—Hy-Vee. The trophy hasn’t been designed yet.
I like our Trophies a lot. Wouldn't change a thing about them...
Irrigation Day.
However, since the Big Ten is run by idiots when it comes to naming things, they might need more choices.
High Fructose Corn Syrup Trophy
Corndog Cup
Bib Overalls Trophy
Caterpillar/Massey-Ferguson Cup
Hawkeye-Husker Cup
Mortgaged Up the Ass and Pray for Rain Trophy
Cattle 'n' Corn Cup
Two Girls
One Cup
:)
The trophy should be a combine harvester, and the winning team gets to drive it around the stadium.
and over people. Put John Carpenter in the press box to film it, release the movie sometime in the spring.
I understand the marketing/branding aspects of college football. Hey it's big business after all!
However, this news really makes me appreciate the fact that we are part of what's simply known as The Game.
this is so awful I dont even know where to begin.
Cant wait until our games against Nebraska are played for the Tyler Ecker Trophy.
I totally agree. You can't just create a tradition without any soul. Once coaches start stealing the opposing teams water jug and accusing the opposing fans of poisoning the water supply (you need to read the back-story for the Little Brown Jug if you never have) then you have the makings of a tradition.
The husk-eye game. Hmmm what would the trophy look like?
I was thinking a little more juvenile than that.
The winner gets a bag of top soil.....
(For the record, I stole this from someone else in a thread from a year ago. And yes, that's Nebraska's senior senator/former governor driving it.)
Can the B1G please stop making up trophies and just let them happen naturally?
Little Brown Jug? Cool. Floyd of Rosedale? Weird, but that's why it's cool. Slab of Bacon? Awesome. Land Grant Trophy? KILL IT WITH FIRE.
I shudder to think what this thing is going to look like. And the worst part is that I won't be able to truly express my hatred for it, lest I appear to hate actual heroes, and therefore, America. The next thing I know, J Lehman is breaking down my door.
Sigh.
will be forced to display whatever hideous trophy creation results from this game in the name of "tradition". Ha ha ha!
All I could think of is Game of Corns, but Farmageddon is so fantastic.
Hats off, stmccoy, you win the internet today.
are getting out of hand and very VERY fruity.
But since we're in a naming thread, how about:
The Flatland Classic
High Steppe Football
Westward Ho!
Westward Ho - I thought she only rode the parade float??
like the CORNFRONTATION! Can't take credit for it though I saw it in an article welcoming Nebraska to the BIG.
Minnesota has by far the best set of trophies: the jug, Floyd of Rosedale and Paul Bunyan's Axe are all awesome (as was the Slab of Bacon). Even the Governor's Victory Bell is the best of the new age trophies.
Of course, they rarely get to hold them...
I was hoping for the Cornholio bowl, and the winners get TP for their bungholes.
See: Trophy, Land Grant. Sorry B1G, saying MSU-PSU is a rivalry does not make it one.
