ND Week "Images of the Rivalry"

Submitted by inthebluelot on

Let's get the best memories of the ND games of yesteryear with pictures, jokes, graphics and whatever else we can find to celebrate the rivalry with ND.  Here are a few of my personal faves and hopefully there are a lot more that MGoCommunity can share.

That 2007 38-0 was still the most satisfying game I've ever been to.  After all of the confusion and sadness of those first two weeks and then the weeklong build-up of insufferable high school friends who were/became Domers, watching that beat down was pure happiness.

After the Alabama loss I found myself feeling that I didn't care about the Notre Dame game this year and just wanted to beat Michigan State. But after they beat MSU and this national ND IS BACK lovefest began, I really hope we crush them. I really don't think MSU is as bad as they looked on Saturday, and they usually have one game a year where they just...suck. (Last year @ Nebraska) I don't think Notre Dame is that good either. They have a freshman QB (or Rees) and a banged up secondary (that MSU didn't really exploit with all their dropped passes). Sure they have a good front four, but how much of that was just because of MSU's banged up OL? I think it comes down to our DBs covering their receivers and Denard being able to throw on the run and get out into space.

I was feeling the same way. "Well a loss wouldn't be so bad, we could still win the Big Ten, we're probably due for one..." stuff like that.

But after they won against MSU, things started flaring up. MSU fans saying how we're gonna get shut out, ND fans saying how they're finally *back*, idiot media members like Musberger talking about how ND/Oklahoma could have National Title implications.

To Hell with Notre Dame

I was only nine years old, but I remember it anyhow...

Whenever my wife and I are discussing home redecorating, if she asks me how I think we should paint a particular wall, my response is "With a floor-to-ceiling mural depicting Desmond Howard's diving touchdown catch on fourth and one against Notre Dame".  Somehow she's not as big on the idea as I am.

I'm not going to argue with the rest of the flow chart but implying that Notre Dame isn't a good school is stupid. Notre Dame has top notch academics, probably better than Michigan's.

Good for you.  This is not the place (nor the week) to argue that ND is better than Michigan academically.

Out of curiosity - what made you choose ND over Michigan, especially growing up a Michigan fan?  I was pretty unbiased going in, but I just don't see the redeeming qualities of ND, assuming you got in both places.

Yeah, I got into both Michigan and ND and with both of them being such high quality schools, the academics really didn't come into play. I made my decision mostly because Notre Dame is smaller and has an incredibly tight-knit student body and I hadn't really gotten that vibe from anywhere else. ND also has an awesome campus if you haven't seen it.

Okay. Well, I'm sure this won't convince you as you seem to be an expert on the topic but Notre Dame has been a ton of fun. As you are not a student here you can't really experience it for yourself but trust me it's a lot of fun. I've been to Michigan a lot, I go to Notre Dame, they are both fun. And as for the campus, it all depends on your personal opinion.

OK, now I think you're punking me.  Even my staunchest ND grad friends don't say ND is fun. When I was a student, we visited ND a couple times either for football games or to visit friends.  The social scene was worse than high school.  When ND kids would come visit us it was like their first time to Vegas.

Honestly, it all depends on what dorm you get (yeah, it's a really weird system), I got lucky and got the dorm that is the most lax on drinking rules so we can basically do whatever we want. Some of the other dorms aren't so lucky and I can see that if the people you knew were in some of those then it might suck.

I don't know how i could possibly make this any clearer. Yes, south bend sucks, I said that earlier. What I am saying is that college at Notre Dame is fun. That's all. What I like(d) about Michigan fans is that they're smart and rational. You and LAWolv or whatever his name is, please stop making me think I was wrong about that all these years.

Not really.  I've been to South Bend twice and it's not that much fun, not compared to a public university.  Speaking from personal experience, coming to Michigan after 12 years of parochial education was a major culture shock in terms of behavior that was tolerated socially.  The vibe I get from ND is the same vibe I had when I was in Catholic school, we used to test boundaries and pull shenanigans, but my friends in public HS were much more worldly than I was.

led the charge out onto Notre Dame's field as the ball went through the uprights.  I was about 20 yards out onto the field when I realized that there was time left on the clock.  I turned around to head off the field, but the Michigan crowd was all running at me.  Eventually they cleared the field for the final play.
