ND v. MSU, Who do we root for?

Submitted by KennyGfanLMAO on

Looking at the games this weekend, it seems that the most exciting/interesting game is between two teams we hate. I'm the kind of guy that roots for are rivals (for the most part) outside of when we play them. That way, it is sweeter when we win. Now I know a lot of you are too "proud" to pull for a rival, and I get it, but do you feel better after beating a mediocre team, or a great team? Think about it.

I plan on rooting for MSU in this one. If both Michigan and MSU win the rest of their games before they meet, there is no doubt that would be the biggest game that week. What are your thoughts MGoBlog?

who one roots for is involuntary; the heart wants what the heart wants.  applicability to this situation:  i hate both teams and can make an intellectual argument about who i want to win so it benefits michigan, but until the kickoff and something happens i just don't know who i will want to win.  i remember telling myself that i want sparty to win, but then feeling good watching the beat down in SB last year.  then other years it made me feel good to see charlie weiss lose to dantonio.  we will get to see one of them lose however so it is a win win- watching one of them lose feels good better than watching one of them win feels bad.  read it again - that totally makes sense.

Think about it this way:

If MSU beats ND, a very real possibility, they could very well be undefeated by the time October 20 rolls around  They'll be ranked in at least the top 8 by then, possibly higher.  They will come to Ann Arbor smelling roses and even a BCS Championship berth (it's already started).

If we can somehow manage to beat both ND and Purdue on the road, we will climb higher in the rankings.  We will have one loss, but will likely be somewhere in the top 15.  When was the last time both teams were ranked in the top 15 for their annual matchup?  I think you have to go back to 2003.  If the above scenario playes out, it could make for one of the more exciting games we've seen.  The chance at beating them, as underdogs, in Ann Arbor would be hard to pass up, but awful if we lose.

Usually, like most of us, I pull for the b10 in just about every non-conference game, thinking a win will somehow inch the conference closer to national respectability. I'm so sick of hearing repeatedly the pro-sec media talking heads continually slap us around. That being said, I'm finished. Until the b10 can break through with consisently win bcs games and big time non-conference games, it simply isn't going to change the perception the conference has. So I don't care how the conference is potrayed anymore, or the media constantly blasting it. I only care about big blue and our pursuit of a title and Pasadena. So to hell with Sparty and there tremendous tool of a coach and idiotic fanbase. Go Irish, just for this week, put Sparty in there place, and drop a duece all over East Lansing and there ridiculous followers

With the B1G looking like a steaming pile of shit, I'll go for MSU in this one. Even if it goes against everything I believe in. We'll have our chance to take them out later in the season.

I will absolutely be cheering for ND this time. I was all for ND losing last year to Sparty, but now that they have defeated us four times in a row, I want to see their asshole fans pissed. Of course the only way to really get them super pissed is to beat them in October.

I hate how overrated ND is year in and year out. But after their recent string of mediocrity and their fans posting things like "I don't ever think we'll beat Michigan in my lifetime again", they have become a much more tolerable fan base. MSU has the most annoying fanbase to ever walk this planet, so fuck 'em.

I've accepted that the B1G is crap as of now. So I'm not going to even worry about the B1G's appearance right now and that a MSU win looks good for the B1G, all I care about is us winning the B1G. So I'm going to be rooting for the team I hate less, ND.

Also, it'll be fun beating ND again this year, especially after they've beaten MSU and have even more unwarranted hype than usual. And on the off cance they beat us, oh well, after the past 3 years I can deal with 1 loss to ND.

With how cocky Sparty is getting it would be so great to have them to be undeated when we beat them. It would make licking the tears of unfathomable sadness from Sparty's face that much more enjoyable.

I'm pulling for ND. They're like OSU, I dislike them, but I at least have a level of respect for the tradition and history of the program as well as the rivaly they have with Michigan. I have no respect for MSU. I have lived in the Lansing area for a decade and their fans* are far and away the worst.

*State does have some decent fans but it's a matter of the 98% that are d-bags making the rest look bad.

I'm rooting for someone (outside of MGoBlog) to realize that Tom Gholson isn't actually that good. ESPNU just talked about Gholston being MSU's impact guy. He hasn't done anything this year. He only has 2 unassisted tackles on the year and they've played a retooled Boise and Central. Max Bullough is way better and he seems to get no credit

I can't stand either program but im rooting for ND after Sparty started talking smack about Denard against bama and Shane Morris on twitter. Plus I feel like there ranked way to high in the polls they haven't faced anyone (Boise lost Moore and McClellin amongst others over the last two years to the draft and arnt as good as they once where) top that off with a terrible QB and all u have to do is put 8 in the box and stop bell which I think manti teo will have his way this week

I want MSU to win now, because of the Big 10 thing. But once the game gets kicked off, i find myself rooting against Sparty. I guess i just hate them that much.

I think ND will win in a close one. 26-24.

in a closely played game in which both offenses have multiple unforced turnovers and both teams get beat up.

I hope msu keeps winning and talking or tweeting, as those young people do.

ND beating MSU at MSU followed by Michigan beating ND at ND sounds pretty sweet.  I'll take that one.

This is an easy choice.  You root for ND because MSU is in the Legends division, and non-conference losses count towards the tie-breaker.  The goal of UM each and every year is to win the B1G.  A MSU loss helps UM's chances of winning the B1G.

We must always route against state because they are in our division and things could come down to overall record. I didn't even read other posts but I'm sure they said the same thing. Not to mention one team has been better than the other. Always route for the underdog. Always route for the shitbag.

Have to root for the Irish. My dad, who taught me to love the Wolverines, always pushed rooting for the other Michigan team when they weren't playing us, so I tried. After last years disgusting display including the attempted neck breaking on Denard, my 80 year old dad rescinded his advice and vowed to never root for State again. I doubt I ever will again either.

Toughie.  I mean, I agree above the any MSU loss helps in the division but would like to see ND taken down a peg before next week.  Also, with the attention this game is and will be getting if you have any conference pride it would be nice to see some decent B1G showing in front of a big crowd.  Whether we like it or not they are kind holding the flag right now so I've gotta give MSU the edge in supporting.

Think of it this way, let MSU go undefeated until they come into AA.  Would make the attention for that game and a UM win even bigger, right?

Hve to root for MSU. an irish win might energize them for the nig game next week and it makes the big ten look even more pathetic. Bell and the rest of the offensive line end the game with season ending surgery. that would also b nice

at the Vet school and a herd of zombie cows rampages through Spartan Stadium doing whatever zombie cows end up doing ... but given that cows kill more people than sharks every year, i assume it will be terrifying and potentially gruesome.

I root for numerous mistakes, confidence shattering failures, dropped passes, missed blocks, missed tackles, broken coverages, dropped snaps, lots of penalties.

In other words, someone has to win, but I don't want them to get any confidence from it.

This one is easy for me.  I'm outside of the state so sparty doesn't annoy me.  Why?  Beacuse let's face it, no one has heard of MSU outside of Michigan.  Go Sparty beat ND.

Root for a close game that causes both teams to dig deep into their playbooks, both on offense and defense -- a game rich in useful film for the Michigan coaches.
