ND Practice Noise
I drove by the ND practice field a few minutes ago on my way home. They're blasting music in an effort (I would presume) to simulate crowd noise. Two points though:
1) They were playing what sounded like Huey Lewis. Hardly intimidating music.
2) The music wasn't that loud. For those of you at the game on Saturday: I think you can get louder than that.

You're goddamn right.

Huey Lewis would be pretty funny, normally its Bon Jovi :(
I doubt there is anything they could do to actually be anything close to what it will be during the game.
Based on the player interviews this week, the captains were all asked what they say to the younger guys so that there ready for the game. They all said basically the same thing, "there's nothing to really say, nothing you can do to describe it you just have to experience it"

Sounded like a live version of "You Give Love a Bad Name".

That record ruled it.

Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercial and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humor.

He's not quite the songsmith that Costello is, nor does he try to be. He just did great, accessible pop music. People forget that Huey Lewis was pretty close to the biggest act in the world at that time.
I think his work is pretty remarkable for a variety of things, but one stands out to me in retrospect: I can't think of a more successful artist (he had 19(!) Top 10 songs) that had a smaller influence on musicians that followed him. I mean, when have you ever thought to yourself after hearing something new on the radio in the last 20 years "Hey, this kind of reminds me of The News"? Almost never. And I've never heard someone contemporary and important list him as one of their influences. It's pretty strange.

close to michael jackson at that time? i have a hard time believing that

Nice reference. I lol'd.

I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

Your business card.

You see that? That's bone.

And the lettering is something called "Silian Braille."
Better yet, you can actually buy your business cards in Bateman's style: http://bizcardpro.com/AmericanPsycho/
The also carry eggshell with Romalian type, raised lettering on pale nimbus, and - you betcha - a card with a watermark.

I missed the reference completely, didn't I?
Heh. Ah well.

I just hope that your brother Yancy didn't steal your lucky seven leaf clover out of the Ronco Record Vault after you put Sports in there for safe keeping.

Were they able to simulate the Carbon Monoxide being piped into the visiting sideline through drains in the field??
September 10th, 2009 at 6:57 PM ^
We are going to sell hot fresh donuts behind the visiting bench during the game as well....

that Weiss controls the musical selection and it's usually rock music. I'm glad that RR lets out players choose their own music.
