Nah, thats who were replacing Utah and BYU with, lol
that is nice bonus change
Nah, thats who were replacing Utah and BYU with, lol
Pretty sure we did not back out if this series. Two year hiatus is far different than saying Its canceled for the foreseeable future. I'm sure if we had known we could have scheduled slightly better. Weak move regardless
I thought they were trying to get out of this one too, but ASU wouldn't back down. Now they have to travel to ASU in 2014 plus play Michigan Florida State USC Northwestern Stanford and Louisville.
Apparently ND cares more about their home fans. We all can't play Appalachian St.
Actually, you technically CAN. And after 2014, the B1G will be the only conference (that I know of) that will not be able to play a FBS school.
Sorry to hear you are stepping away from the big boys table.
But ND has NEVER played an FCS team period.
Recent history notwithstanding the service academies have basically been ND's FCS standins.
Nah, you guys have to play that powerhouse Navy every year. That rivalry is intense.
It's a gesture out of kindness. Navy saved ND, so ND blessed them with the opportunity to play ND every year.
I mistyped, but the point stands. Congratulations on not playing an FCS team. You're joining a conference that will allow you to beat up on FCS level competition for years to come. Wanna talk about big boy tables?
Thank your boys for being the only bright spot in our RR years. Without your constantly overrated teams, we would have had no highlights, aside from the one Wisconsin game.
They'll be Division 1 in 2014.
I would wager that if nd played a good FCS squad during the willingham/davie/weis days they would've taken at least one L.
I'm sorry but playing Army every year a combined 37-117 since 2000 is hand-in-hand with playing a FCS opponent. I think we all can respect the Army team but they are about as competitive as top FCS teams.
Service academy and call it a glorious rivalry.
Air Force says "If our coach wasn't incompetent we'd have beat you in your own house." Truth, I was there.
wait a minute there... Don't care about the fans? The last App. State game was a classic!
apparently they're just bad at scheduling. They won't get so lucky in 2014, so phork off
Actually, might wanna check the news. App state is moving up to FBS in 2014 to the Sun Belt.
Over under on the number of decommits after they tank that gauntlet?
Arizona State usually has about one relevant season per decade. Maybe the timing will work out.
I'm still ticked off that that ACC is letting Notre Dame be a part time member. The whole concept is insane. You're either a full fledged member of a conference or you're not. Stop making special rules to accommodate Notre Dame's greediness.
John Hopkins sends his regards. Hypocrisy be damned.
But John Hopkins only has two D-I teams (men's and women's lax). Not quite the same comparison.
Can Notre Dame say the same thing about the ACC?
If you're going to try and be funny, at least get the names right.
and don't forget the THE...just like OSU likes to be THE Ohio State (cough cough) University, JOHNS HOPKINS likes to be referred to as THE JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY.
Why do you troll other teams' boards? You add nothing of value but piss us off. You are such a typical ND fan it's hilarious.
is to add lacrosse as an official league sport. The B1G needs six teams in order to hold a conference championship, so it invited Johns Hopkins as an affiliate to go along with the five full-fledged members that will comprise the lacrosse group (UM, OSU, PSU, RU & Mary).
You'd recognize the difference between adding an affiliate member for a specific sport and offering a part-time pseudo-membership in football, right? Johns Hopkins will play a full lacrosse season with the B1G, but the ACC can't say the same thing about the Irish and football. It's a good deal for ND to be the big fish in a little pond, but it's certainly embarrassing for the ACC if this is the kind of arrangement they need to make to survive.
ASU will get the Irish here and there. Especially when ND has to travel there. This is actually an upgrade from Navy, Pitt, or some ACC softy.
I think it's overall better for college football to mix up the matchups. We play MSU, Ohio every year, and that's enough. (In the interests of full disclosure, I am also rooting for a west coast roadie so I can watch the maize and blue in Berekely, Palo Alto, the Rose Bowl, or somewhere like that.)
Agreed. There is such an enormous alumni presence on the West coast. A trip to Seattle or Eugene would be a lot fun, too. Hell, I would even consider Corvallis. C'mon Brandon, make it happen!
phork seems on the edge of going all "ghostofX" on us...
But the mods seem to let opposing fans get away with stuff they'd never let a Michigan fan do on here.
Phork is by far the biggest troll out of any of the other regular MSU, OSU, or Notre Dame posters. There's a few OSU guys on here who are pleasant contributors
You think so? I'm reading this thread and it looks to me like he's more than holding his own in this debate. I think he's representing ND quite well in this thread unfortunately......
As best he can, at least. Facts get in the way of a thorough rebuttal.
Yeah, phork's fine in this thread. He makes good points that people around hear are happy to ignore. I'm no ND apologist, I'll always hate them, and they backed out of the Michigan series like dicks, but the board is being pretty unnecessarily dicky to him.
Don't be sad though. Its not, you.. Well yes it is.
He's am opposing fan that snarks and trolls everytime Notre Dame comes up. Irish he's not. But the site turns a blind eye, so he gets dicky responses in return.
Because god forbid that a college football site has trash talk between rivals. You've said it a few times, but what exactly has Phork gotten away with here? Not saying nice things about Michigan? In all of his posts he keeps it about the games and teams, and I've never seen him use a personal attack before.
What's the big deal here?
Not content driven, more in reference to the reply to each comment strategy I saw when I opened the thread.
My opinion: if you want to post on other teams' blogs, you should play nice. You can make good point, but you can't be a dick about it (like he often is). Irish played nice. Phork not to much.
I have a hard time understanding how you concluded that ND is playing a series against ASU and that ASU replaces Michigan.
In the article it states that the 2014 and 2017 games were agreed through contract in 2008. It also notes that ND has tried to cancel both games, but ASU will only allow canceling the 2017 game.
You know what they say about Notre Dame...
I agree. They ARE turkeys!
A couple facts about ND and there recent scheduling issues:
1) They backed out of the Michigan series. End of story.
2) Originally, ND was only requesting to cancel the away game part of the ASU series. That's pretty douchey to say, "we'll play you at our home but not at yours" after a contract has been signed. Note: they have since said they will cancel the game at ND (probably to try and save some face on this issue)
3) ND has 14 season games scheduled for 2014. You are only allowed to play a 12 game season with additional chances at a conference championship game and a bowl game. It's pretty simple arithmetic.
Pretty sad state of affairs over in South Bend.
Did not have the courtesy to discuss the end of the series with Dave Brandon, before they did it in writing! Bush league!
Who gives a rats ass. It's Notre Shame.
I'm glad we're done with ND. Wish we could bail on the 2014 game.
ASU finished 5-6 in 1999 and 6-6 in 1999.
Both were wins for the Irish.
Screw ND....they are a good academic school to be sure, but they are not the type of university that fits the B1G footprint for research. I believe the manner in which Brandon received notice was done with malice.
I also believe that ND should NOT play in BCS or NC games until they join a conference with playoffs and require them to run the same gauntlet as everyone else of consequence. To do otherwise is absurd.
