We have our QB and don't think he was on our radar, but hopefully he stays out west.
ND loses QB Blake Barnett commitment
I think I read that he would most likely end up at Oregon.
I used to love recruiting, but it seems more ther norm for top recruits to commit early, only to decommit from that school (normally dropping them from true contention) and explore new options. I can't get excited about a commit until he truly signs his NLOI.
It's certainly frustrating if you're the team being jilted (Damien Harris, George Campbell, etc.), but to me, it almost makes recruiting more interesting. It means that until National Signing Day 2015, you don't know whether kids will flip or not. You're never out of the fight.
I don't *like* the trend of going back on your word, but I think it does make things more intriguing.
it happens to your rivals (or former rivals!).
"Committed" means virtually nothing anymore. So many teens haven't the constitution to stand by their word.
Would an early signing period change this problem? Honestly, I don't know. We've seen in the past year or two "commits" trying to get out of their NLI after signing it. I can't remember what happened with regards to the most recent one who I believed signed to FSU and then tried to get out of it months later claiming he was rushed into the decision. What a joke.
It also has to suck to commit to a coach that you love only to see him bounce for a better job, and not have to sit out a year.
Staying out west won't affect Michigan much since he won't play against Michigan if he goes to Notre Dame. I guess if he went to ND and did well, that could help their recruiting efforts in the midwest. But frankly, I don't care if he goes to Notre Dame or not. If they don't get him, they'll get another solid QB prospect.
Anyway, yeah, I heard Barnett is likely going to choose Michigan.
BTW, Barnett was definitely on our radar, as he was one of the few quarterbacks with an offer from Michigan.
His concern is more that he'll end up somewhere in the Midwest that could hurt Michigan. Like Purdue.
I understand you don't even need an ACL to start at QB for Purdue these days. Can't beat that for opportunity.
... Which is to say, I hope he gets stuck in a logjam behind Town and Sills, only to transfer to UM in 2016.
USC: the new Michigan pipeline.
Oops. I meant to say that Barnett is likely to choose Oregon.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahaha ND you suck.
Taken from the linked article:
As for the Irish, senior Everett Golson is likely to lead Notre Dame in 2014, but the Irish's quarterback situation looks rather tenuous beyond this upcoming season. Landing Barnett would have helped secure the position for the foreseeable future, but now Kelly has more work ahead of him on the recruiting front.
Is this Golsn's last year of eligibility?
After eight years they make you leave.
I have always focused on his nearly exploding purple face, but the score at the bottom of the picture just sweetens the pot a bit.
I have always liked the look on the faces of the two guys behind him. The white guy is thinking: I told you not to get him mad!. The black guy is thinking: Oh shit, here we go again.
I enjoy the rivalry and will miss the games themselves, but I am really looking forward to never having to hear about ND for a long time.
I'm with you, and I still believe the B1G teams should all agree to not schedule ND again in any sport. Make them travel out of the Midwest for every single sporting event against a major program.
While I am all in favor of it, I believe that is called collusion which is illegal.
So, you're saying, the entire FCS can sue the SEC for "colluding" not to play any FCS teams anymore?
"Collusion" is illegal only among entities with market power. ND has 200 scheduling options besides B1G teams, meaning every other FBS team and the entire FCS. B1G does not have market power. It is not illegal collusion.
I'm all for it too. Nothing to gain in the midwest.
I thought "Blake Barnett (CA QB) was IRISH!"
Totally saw this coming. Barnett is an NFL-style prototypical drop back passer and doesn't fit perfectly into Kelly's offense. Even if he were to be a non-turnover version of Tommy Rees, Kelly seems like he'd rather give the nod to a dual-threat guy like Golson or Zaire. The days of ND having guys like Crist, Clausen, Quinn, or Joe Montana under center are over.
And is going to commit to Oregon very soon. Other than that you're right on.
To hell with Notre Dame.
Where is the Notre Dame guy who stopped by to gloat about Shaun Crawford decommitting from UM?
I'm here. Except I don't expect Barnett to comit to UM any time soon. Crawford to ND is almost a certainty.
Thank god this shit finally happened to someone else.
