NCAAFB Open Thread: The Final Countdown

Submitted by formerlyanonymous on

I hate scrolling through long open threads. I'm expecting a bit busier thread for OU/Nebraska. We're starting a new one.

The final three automatic qualifiers are named tonight.

FSU vs VT (-4.5)

OU vs Nebraska (+4.5)

UCONN (+2) vs USF

My picks are above. Jamiemac has upsets across the board.

Discuss.

I had club tickets to the VT-FSU game tonight but passed on them.  I hate passing up on free tickets to anything, especially a college football game, especially a conference championship game.   But its 35 degrees and rain/sleet down here in Charlotte tonight.  Good or bad decision?

There are some awesome restaurants in the club where you can watch from behind the heated glass while chowing on a mound of nachos a foot high and chugging brews.  I take my son and daughter to that stadium for the Meineke Bowl every year and we sit in the club.  GREAT seats.  Once you have club seats, it's almost impossible to go back to the lower/upper levels...  The atmosphere in the stadium is incredible too.   Great place to watch a game.  Next time, go.  You won't be disappointed.

Torn on who to root for in OU/ Nebraska.  My head tells me that it'd be cool for Nebraska to win as a huge FU to the Big 12 on their way out the door, but my heart has never forgiven them for splitting the polls in 1997.

On another note - sounds like there must have been some Sparty's in attendance at UCLA/ USC.  Massive brawl outside the Rose Bowl with 2 people stabbed.

With a Big East title on the line it is a little surprising that there is absolutely no one in the upper deck of the stadium in Tampa for the UConn vs USF game.

They showed an overhead shot and for a second I thought the place was packed.  Then I quickly realized all that red I was seeing was just empty seats (that and the fact that neither team has red in their colors).

DId anybody else watch the Dr. Pepper halftime toss (OK/Neb)?  I've Tivod it, and watched it multiple times... what the heck happened.  The guy who "lost" made all 10 throws, just like the "winner".  Am I missing something?

My wife and I thought the exact same thing, so we re-watched it multiple times too.  The last time we watched it we noticed that the official's hands didn't go up for the third throw.  It sure looks like the ball goes in, but if you look just above the ball hopper after the third throw you will see the football bouncing off of the ground.  Crazy.
