I didn't see one yet, and I thought having a forum for general discussion of the evening games suvh as Butler / Marquette and Gonzaga / Wichita State (among others) might be convenient for all.
Would it be if the remaining Big teams make the sweet 16!!!! Lets show everyone we are indeed the best league in the land... Go blue
Ehhh what the hell, why not
I would love nothing more than to beat their ass in the NC game!!!
hope they lose the rest of their games.
besides LaSalle, cuz everyone loves a cinderella.
i think he's the coolest white trash since eminem...but that's just me
also, the thought of henderson getting under the skin of wisconsin made me happy
Are getting scarce fast.
I'm hoping one of games is competitive.
today's games have all been blowouts.
The Butler game is close, so far.
Looking for payback against Butler!
Seriously.. are all eight games going to be blowouts today?
Marquette v Butler might be the best bet.
but the zags are trailing at the half. Could turn out to be a pretty good game.
...as it relates to the evening games:
Interestingly, St. Louis was given a 67% win probability against Oregon, and Butler is favored slightly (55%) against Marquette. Gonzaga is actually getting 69% as an estimated win probability against Wichita State. California is not getting much of a chance against Syracuse - 28% for that one.
Getting out of hand.If it's a basketball move it shouldn't be a flagrant and in the Marquette game it wasn't even a foul.
I'm a blind squirrel who located that quacky nut.
Ehhhh...replied to the wrong post.
By changing the very definition of what a flagrant foul is, they changed how you have to play the game. A flagrant foul should be just that, a flagrant action taken against another player, not some arbitrary action that takes 5 minutes for 3 refs to agree upon. 95% of the time it should be able to be called live without any review. I'd rather they do something like the NBA does when reviewing these like they did with flops and penalize the players that react 3 seconds after any contact to trigger the review in the first place.
Not just have a guy stick his chin in your face.
And does anyone thing any of these makes the players safer? They're not wearing dresses out there.
Really pulling for Oregon and Marquette right know. Would give me 6 of the Sweet sixteen picks correct.
Oregon yes. Marquette nyet.
I would be pretty screwed if Marquette does not pull it out. I had them going to the Elite Eight.
Anyone else pick Oregon going this far? I did. I kind of thought it was obvious for them. A pretty easy walk to sweet 16, maybe further. Though, I think it stops after STL.
The PAC 12 was way underrated this year. Oregon looking good against St. Louis.
I think that Oregon dunk attempt landed in the upper deck
Louisville and Arizona advancing in blowouts - liking my picks for the final 4. Hope I am wrong in one of my picks and Michigan beats Florida in the elite 8.
are a tad boring. Did we get any football commits this weekend?
But Michael Wilbon is doing Turrible with his picks.
It's still early but I'm still right behind Al Horford near the top. Problem is only Butler and Syracuse wins can help tonight...first round misses screwed up the rest. But it's fun while it lasts.
Edit...I forgot about that other school in Kansas - Go Shockers!
Who do you all need to win tonight for your brackets?
I need St. Louis, Butler, Cuse, and the Zags (although I wouldn't mind seeing them lose as a 1 seed).
I would like Oregon, Butler, Zags and the Cuse to win.
re possible flagrant in St L-Oreg game
Going to give it right back with darling St. Louis not even showing up. So my night's success is probably dependent on Butler upsetting Marquette (thanks, Davidson).
Technically I have Cuse and the Zags winning but either could lose and help me in te long run.
And the crappiest blocking foul ever in the Oregon-St. Louis game. They owe SL like four after that.
same game,20 seconds later,flagrant review
about player safety in college basketball? i've been following cbball for a while now and i don't ever remember so many stoppages to review these mundane plays...
Often a player will drive to basket, get bodied hard to the floor with no foul being called because the defender 'got all ball'
Should have had that during my ill-fated marriage
that there won't be any real "home team" advantages in our regional. That is good. We seem to do good on neutral courts.
get an extra day and a half rest because Kansas-NC game tomorrow at 5PM.Winner be get home late Sunday night while our guys have been home since saturday afternoon.I was hoping we'd play Thurs. for that reason.
Butler is 10 of 25 and shooting 53.8% (7-13) from three-point land right now, good for an effective FG% of 54%. Six Marquette turnovers are starting to sting a little.
EDIT: So, I say that and Marquette starts to narrow the deficit a little bit. Still, now it is about one turnover per minute for the last ten for Marquette.
McGary, Hardaway and Robinson have had an outstanding tournament thus far, while Stauskas, Horford, Skip and Burke (except for his shooting) have been okay. Now if Lavert could just step up his game, Morgan contribute some solid minutes and a few more shots start dropping for Trey and Nik, look out.
The coaching staff has done an outstanding job.
If today's game was any indication, number 52 will not see any serious minutes for the rest of the year. A shame, but with McGary we have a player with just too much talent to not be out there for around 70% of the game.
if there is one more stoppage of play for a flagrant foul review, i'm gonna poop on a biscuit and feed it to my computer
Is the oddest thing I have ever read
Gonzaga game lol I hate it to
Charles Barkley is starting to look like he knows what he's talking about.
Blind pigs and acorns and such
Buy a vowel and get a haircut.
Every band has played bad romance. The more you know...
On how to break the press.
Could be the first one today......
Butler won't give it up. Ha!
plays very good 'positional' defense. They're also the only team from the State of Indiana I ever root for.
since I've been out of the house ( a personal best)
Man this Butler/Marquette game is really good back and forth action. After a day of blowouts its nice to have a good game.
Why the hell didn't Butler call a time out? Wtf?
is a team full of players with epic names
So first thing they do is leave a guy wide open for three. Sigh.
Here we go Butler!
(EDIT: EDIT: EDIT: NOT) gonna lose the same way
You needed the thirty foot off balance three.
And yet they have another shot at life!
Hold the phone.
That was a great playcall.
Which one? Obviously the second one was worse, but the first air ball 3 was HORRIBLE
but I hear ya on the 3 pointer
Why do some Nike schools have "Jordan" uniforms and some just have Nike?
And the rest of tonight's games suck.
Gonzaga-Wichita is actually a really good game.
I'm not going to get drawn into another game only to have them blow it at the end.
Edit: oh who am I kidding, of course I am.
Just fuct me. Well whatever.
First time ever Michigan and MSU are both in the Sweet 16 at the same time.
Gottlieb is just an awful announcer. I think I would rather just have this game on mute.
So much for the great tournament the A-10 was having, they are now 0 for 3 on the day.
Down 4 with 4.9 seconds to go, the ONLY chance a team has is to save the clock by inbounding the ball the length of the court near the bucket to score w/ some time left. Nine times out of ten, you see teams implicitly concede by inbounding the ball in the back court and taking a zero-chance-to-win game-ending perfunctory three-point heave.
Yes, the length of the court pass is much harder to complete than the path-of-least-resistance ordinary back court inbound, but IT'S THE ONLY WAY TO WIN. Why haven't most coaches/teams figured that out?
Butler almost pulled it off where most teams would have thrown in the towel.
or a pass to mid-court if it's a 1 possession game.My rule was if opp. scores (usually a FT) to tie or take the lead with 6 seconds or less call time-out.More than 6 seconds just go with it because you usually get a better look than if you call time out and def. can get organized.
Anybody know where to find a video of the game today?
You can find the replay here - (LINK) - on the NCAA March Madness site. MGoVideo will not be up until tomorrow per a tweet earlier - audio problems being worked out.
As for the Gonzaga-Wichita State game, am I the only one that wonders if Kelly Olynyk is where Bjorn Borg's hair went?
Awesome. Thank you so much.
The crushing hits not being called in this gonzaga game.
I'm watching the Wichita State vs. Gonzaga game, and they have been trading ridiculous threes.
Travel by Wichita State. No call.
It is raining 3's in the Gonzaga game!
Shockin' Ya'll!! Witchita St., take these fools down! (Note: I think Gonzaga is a very good team but I'm in this at this point for the upsets!)
but that doesn't mean he has no heart!"
gotta love the lame commentary in this game.
combined Gonz/Wichita St
TWENTY ONEEEEEE & TWENTY TWOOOOOO
where John Stockton stands on his son's gross facial
I didn't expect Gonzaga to beat OSU anyway. The zags never should have been a #1 seed and they never should have been ranked #1 with their schedule.
they probably deserved a 1 seed, especially in a year where nobody separated themselves.
but they also didn't show anything during the year to expect them to win many games in the tourney. i was 100000% sure they'd lose in the second round--just had pitt beating them instead.
Nobody separated themselves, but sportscasters said all year that if you had Gonzaga in a tougher conference (like the Big Ten) they easily would have had several more losses.
I just don't understand how you can't take strength of schedule into consideration when you're handing out #1 seeds. I felt the same way several years ago when St. Joseph was a #1 seed. Yes, they had 31 wins but look who those 31 wins were against.
not a bad conference, at least St. Joe's went to the elite 8 that year I believe
gonzaga didn't really pass the eye test. yeah olynyk is good, but it's not like memphis where they had a ceritified future nba star like d rose. so i guess i agree with you. they definitely set mid majors back a couple years...never gonna get a 1 seed again
they would've had 8-10 losses if they played in the B1G
Playing in a cake walk league doesn't mean you should be # 1 in the country.
That cake 2 seed should have been ours.
Gotta love this tourney
offensive rebounds are ya gonna give up wichita?
Did he just say monster upset? I'm pretty sure lots of people knew Gonzaga wouldn't live up to it's #1 seed.
Pretty sure this is further proof he resides in colombus their bracketc just keeps getting easier for them
One of the Witchita St bench players has a huge tat of the "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign on his arm. LOL I bet their NCAA compliance department just loves that....
give me a break, I predicted Gonzaga would lose in this round about a month ago
Me too!! Too bad it was supposed to be against Pitt. Woo March Madness!
Wichita State beats Gonzaga.
And they're not Iron Man's secretary?
Not a shocking upset if you really follow college b-ball, but a fun one none the less.
So my West region has Ohio left and that's it. Wow what a dreadful region.
GAWD, if Pitt could have just shown up in the first round... Many had Gonzaga out in this round.
How do you celebrate in Salt Lake? Drinking chocolate milk and playing twister?
twister might be frowned upon in Utah.
/Mormon'd Par Deux
next two games are not easy, to be sure, but highly doable.
They still have to beat Iowa State too.
Wichita St.,Miss or Lasalle will be there
Eww...Shockers are my guess, though. I thought they were a good team all season anyway, maybe not Elite 8 good, but at this point it's theirs for the taking (along with the other 2 teams).
As I mentioned often here, most recently in my "Gonzaga? Puh-leeze" comment, Gonzaga was the most overrated team in the tournament. They certainly proved it tonight. Their conference (WCC) consists of Gonzaga, two mediocre teams, and the rest are all tomato cans.
Gonzaga didn't deserve to be #1 and they showed it tonight. The only thing that surprises me is that they lost to a team that is decent, but not anything close to the top half of the Big Ten.
They will still be overrated next year, though. When it comes to the media, old habits die hard.
Illinois beat em by 11
I know this isn't unique to me, but it feels like my bracket has been crushed in most close games. Marquette alone has busted me twice!
Davidson doesn't let them come back they can't victimize me twice and I'm right near the top of my pool.
a bracket against 15 Ohio fans. I have Iowa St beating them and about 12 of the 15 have Ohio winning tomorrow and the entire tourney. I'm currently in 2nd and I have 3 regions with Louisville winning it all. Please Iowa St, do your duty tomorrow and all but guarantee me a payday.
Birthday week for me....ate well all week starting with wednesday night's awesome sushi outing, veal marsala last night, leftover veal marsala and a bloody mary this morning, U-M kicking ass in the tourney
B1G doing well but Wisconsin losing (yay)
ND got their ass kicked in 1st rd and some other Big East teams laid an egg
Zags proved they were over-rated, Kansas looking over-rated
Do you guys think the Final Four could consist of all B1G teams? Could happen, highly improbable but not impossible.
No color commentator wants to be the one to say, "Well, I can't say I'm surprised because Gonzaga is wildly overrated and would have sat in the middle of the standings in the B1G, ACC, Big East, etc..."
So, I can't be upset with the fact that they're calling this a "shocking upset."
Thank God they're out though.
Watching Syracuse/Cal...every time I see Michael Carter Williams I think of the Temple game earlier this year at MSG when the TU fans chanted "Lord and Taylor" or "Loss Prevention" every time he touched the ball.
Makes me laugh every time I see him now.
