NCAA Time: Do we root for fellow B1G teams?

Submitted by L'Carpetron Do… on

MgoBoard:

Do we root for our fellow Big Ten teams in the NCAAs?  After a brutal conference schedule, with more than one heart-breaking loss, I don't know if I can bring myself to root for anybody in the Big Ten this year.

I hate Wisconsin more than ever, I'm  sick of Sparty, I don't want to see Tom Crean win anything and rooting for Ohio is out of the question.

But, it would look bad for the conference if they don't go far.  Should we root for the conference to look good?

What's a Wolverine to do?

I am rooting for Big Ten teams to win every game they can for the all Big Ten Final Four.  Because beating Sparty in the title game would be fantastic.

Except Wisconsin.  Because fuck Wisconsin.

Mine are pretty much mutually exclusive. I'm especially pulling for the conference after all the analysts saying all year we were the best in sport, then saying none of us has a chance to win it all. B1G all the way!

What an incredible waste of money.  I hope some msu student is late on their rent because of this stunt.  Please, for anyone going to the game, remind these idiots of their purchase after the final buzzer and UM has won handily.  I hope they all spent an extra $50 on the overnight delivery charges and the delivery person is another sparty.

In my world, grass is Maize and Blue, thankyouverymuch.

There was a poster on a Sparty blog (didn't sound like a student) bragging about having just purchased a Jackrabbit T-shirt and paying over $50 to include the next day shipping.  When the posters on RCMB call one of their own an idiot, you know you have a real winner.

and somehow I doubt there is a run on Valpo gear by UM fans.

Sparty can use the SDSU T-shirts to light their few remanining couches on fire.

As for the rest of the B1G teams, I generally support them, although after Crean's post-game childish antics and Wiscy's "crimes against basketball" style of play, I have a hard time throwing any love their way.

I will root against IU and MSU and for everyone else. I figure any dent in IU and MSU's armor is a good dent and hardly harms the image of the conference. Otherwise, I do want to see the conference succeed.

We are different than the SEC. We root for a team, not a conference I always say that when Im arguing with SEC fans. I cant be a hypocrite

We are different. We arent the SEC. We root for a team, not a conference. I hate Ohio, MSU, PSU, Wisconsin, and everyone else. No matter what. I dont really care if critics say that the Big Ten isnt going anywhere in the tournament. As long as Michigan goes far Im fine

I will root for Minnesota, Illinois and OSU. I know some folks are unwilling to root for OSU under any circumstances but I have no particular dislike for Matta or their basketball team/program.

In prior years I would have rooted for Indiana but Crean's recurring douchebaggery has me leaning towards cheering for their opponents.

I loathe the style of basketball that Ryan and Wisconsin employ but I don't see how WI losing in the first round will bring his retirement on any earlier. As long as those redheaded bastards are  neither playing Michigan nor occupying any of the pixels on my TV with those slowball brickfests that they substitute for basketball then I can tolerate Wisconsin having success with apathy.

I will root for MSU against Duke and only against Duke.

I cannot root for Michigan State and I will not root for Crean should he take his team to the final four.  Beyond that, I like the conference teams to win.

For everyone but msu, though crean has me close to hating Indiana enough to root against them.

I don't understand the Wisconsin hate. They certainly aren't pretty , but what Bo Ryan does with the resources at his disposal is impressive to me. If they played the same as everyone else chances are the talent gap would mean they would be a second rate b10 team. I enjoy having a good Wisconsin that wins ugly representing our conference.

and do it, as long as of course it doesn't get in the way of the maize and blue.   kind of like spreading manure on my fields - it doesn't smell great and there are many other things we'd rather be doing, but in the long run it yields good things....

The conference needs it and it works for the other conference. I do have one exception. Fuck Ohio! I hope they never win a game in any sport. I see the young fans on here don't like Sparty. Those of you on my lawn chill the flip out. Sparty has and always will be irrelevant in football. Rodriguez afforded them a special time, but that has passed. Root for Sparty to win. They are a Michigan team and part of our family. We will beat up little brother when needed.

Their victories validate our season. We need for them to beat good teams and go far so that when people look back at this season, it makes what we have accomplished legit. If they all lose, it gives credence to the SEC/ACC complaints and devalues our struggles.

Of course I get that people don't like MSU, OSU, et al. in the conference. Suppose they were up against this guy, though?

I'd cheer for the conference in that case.

The answer is no because the Big Ten teams are good. This is basketball and we want the easiest road to the title. It's not like football where we need a strength of schedule argument.

I'll pull for the Big 10 until their interests conflict with Michigan's.

However, if Sparty poops the bed against Valpo, I won't feel bad about it....

Nope. None of them would ever root for Michigan. So fuck 'em. That's my stance.

I only cheer for one team.

My answer is:  NO

Feel free to tow the company (conference) line.  For me, Michigan wins + embarrassing first round losses for the rest of the teams in our league = profit.

Every game that a B1G team plays in earns the conference money and that money is split evenly between the teams. So, rooting for B1G = rooting for Michigan.

That said, I'm still rooting for my bracket because my bracket winning = money for me.

I find myself rooting for them during the game, but I'm inevitably happy when they lose. So I guess I'm trying to be supportive of the conference, but my dislike for the other teams cannot take the joy out of watching them fail.

I will not be rooting for Indiana because I do not want Tom Crean to achieve any more success nor will I be rooting for Wisconsin because I don't want to encourage Bo Ryan's style of clutch and grab basketball.

Other then those two I will always root for the Big Ten, but as others have said that does not mean I will not take some joy out of seeing MSU or OSU losing before Michigan does.
