We certainly get enough of ESS EEE SEE! in football.....let's throw it back at them.
NCAA Time: Do we root for fellow B1G teams?
How about let's do the redblooded American thing and root for the teams we bet on.
I am rooting for Big Ten teams to win every game they can for the all Big Ten Final Four. Because beating Sparty in the title game would be fantastic.
Except Wisconsin. Because fuck Wisconsin.
I cannot, in good conscience, root for them... ever
Bo Ryan is guilty of crimes against basketball.
The way I view it is I want Sparty to win when they aren't playing us because it makes it all the more satisfying when we beat them and the couches go up in flames.
root for OSU/MSU/Wisconsin/IU if they outlast Michigan.
Drink lots of Bourbon, watch Michigan win. Whatever happens after that is a plus.
I will root for Michigan. After that I will root for my bracket.
i root exclusively for my bracket
Respecting your fellow conference members, especially those that beat you, is the classy thing to do.
Don't be classless
Poor Mizzou, never saw Gerard Butler coming...
Shout out to the Tat-5!
Mine are pretty much mutually exclusive. I'm especially pulling for the conference after all the analysts saying all year we were the best in sport, then saying none of us has a chance to win it all. B1G all the way!
State fans clearly aren't supporting us. http://www.keloland.com/newsdetail.cfm/michigan-state-fans-buying-jackrabbit-gear/?id=145433
Spartan fans intentionally wearing blue and yellow in opposition of Michigan? Only in East Lansing.
What an incredible waste of money. I hope some msu student is late on their rent because of this stunt. Please, for anyone going to the game, remind these idiots of their purchase after the final buzzer and UM has won handily. I hope they all spent an extra $50 on the overnight delivery charges and the delivery person is another sparty.
In my world, grass is Maize and Blue, thankyouverymuch.
There was a poster on a Sparty blog (didn't sound like a student) bragging about having just purchased a Jackrabbit T-shirt and paying over $50 to include the next day shipping. When the posters on RCMB call one of their own an idiot, you know you have a real winner.
and somehow I doubt there is a run on Valpo gear by UM fans.
Sparty can use the SDSU T-shirts to light their few remanining couches on fire.
As for the rest of the B1G teams, I generally support them, although after Crean's post-game childish antics and Wiscy's "crimes against basketball" style of play, I have a hard time throwing any love their way.
I will root against IU and MSU and for everyone else. I figure any dent in IU and MSU's armor is a good dent and hardly harms the image of the conference. Otherwise, I do want to see the conference succeed.
I will root for Minnesota, Illinois and OSU. I know some folks are unwilling to root for OSU under any circumstances but I have no particular dislike for Matta or their basketball team/program.
In prior years I would have rooted for Indiana but Crean's recurring douchebaggery has me leaning towards cheering for their opponents.
I loathe the style of basketball that Ryan and Wisconsin employ but I don't see how WI losing in the first round will bring his retirement on any earlier. As long as those redheaded bastards are neither playing Michigan nor occupying any of the pixels on my TV with those slowball brickfests that they substitute for basketball then I can tolerate Wisconsin having success with apathy.
I will root for MSU against Duke and only against Duke.
I cannot root for Michigan State and I will not root for Crean should he take his team to the final four. Beyond that, I like the conference teams to win.
I will root for our conference to represent us well.
Yes, we do.
It's the same for me in bowl season; I'm not gonna start not hating the rest of the B1G because of the calendar. I hate everyone, always.
For everyone but msu, though crean has me close to hating Indiana enough to root against them.
I don't understand the Wisconsin hate. They certainly aren't pretty , but what Bo Ryan does with the resources at his disposal is impressive to me. If they played the same as everyone else chances are the talent gap would mean they would be a second rate b10 team. I enjoy having a good Wisconsin that wins ugly representing our conference.
Fuck Wisconsin, and Bo Ryan and his crimes against basketball. Other than that, I'll probably root for the rest of the conference.
Let them find the pain that they deserve.
Their victories validate our season. We need for them to beat good teams and go far so that when people look back at this season, it makes what we have accomplished legit. If they all lose, it gives credence to the SEC/ACC complaints and devalues our struggles.
My final four bracket is MSU, OSU,Indiana and Michigan so in my case an emphatic yes.
Of course I get that people don't like MSU, OSU, et al. in the conference. Suppose they were up against this guy, though?
I'd cheer for the conference in that case.
The exception of Indiana.
And it sucks that they are the most likely of the bunch to actually raise the banner
I'll pull for the Big 10 until their interests conflict with Michigan's.
However, if Sparty poops the bed against Valpo, I won't feel bad about it....
Nope. None of them would ever root for Michigan. So fuck 'em. That's my stance.
I only cheer for one team.
My answer is: NO
Feel free to tow the company (conference) line. For me, Michigan wins + embarrassing first round losses for the rest of the teams in our league = profit.
Every game that a B1G team plays in earns the conference money and that money is split evenly between the teams. So, rooting for B1G = rooting for Michigan.
That said, I'm still rooting for my bracket because my bracket winning = money for me.
I find myself rooting for them during the game, but I'm inevitably happy when they lose. So I guess I'm trying to be supportive of the conference, but my dislike for the other teams cannot take the joy out of watching them fail.
Absolutely root for the B1G to represent well, because that makes all our losses look better...
Man......I will never grasp this concept. A loss is a loss is a loss, whether it's against MSU, OSU, PSU, or The Horror.
I will not be rooting for Indiana because I do not want Tom Crean to achieve any more success nor will I be rooting for Wisconsin because I don't want to encourage Bo Ryan's style of clutch and grab basketball.
Other then those two I will always root for the Big Ten, but as others have said that does not mean I will not take some joy out of seeing MSU or OSU losing before Michigan does.
Because no, that's why.
Hate on the other teams all you want; I'll understand. What's good for the conference, though, is, at least to some degree, good for Michigan.
Imagine what would happen in football if all the teams suddenly sunk to Big East levels of competitiveness. Do you think that would help/hurt Michigan when bowl picks were made?
I cheer for my bracket picks, so conference allegiences do not exist during march madness for me. The only time I knowingly cheer against my bracket is if U of M is doing the bracket busting. Also, if/when my bracket is widdled down to nothing, I cheer for the underdogs to bust the brackets of the others left standing.
I root for B1G teams that don't offend me. Grew up in Chicago suburbs, so I grew up a U of I fan and will root for them. Minnie is a gopher, nice and cute.
But then my skin starts to crawl...
Tom Crean can rot in h-e-double-hockey sticks.
Izzo I like, but, his fan base is a few steps ahead of Tom Crean.
I think h-e-double-hockey-sticks is colored scarlet & gray.
And in that new tv miniseries "The Bible," I don't think Satan looks like Obama (no politics!), I think he looks like Bo Ryan.
Of course I'll be rooting for Big Ten teams. I'd like to show the country that yes, our conference is indeed the most difficult conference to play basketball in. I do have my qualms about each of them, though.
I do despise Crean and I think he's probably the most annoying coach in the conference, Wisconsin plays the flavor of basketball that turns your brain into mush while watching and also fuck Wisconsin, and Minnesota is the most frustratingly inconsistent team in the conference, I like Izzo but the Izzone is the most bro-ish (and I mean that in the most negative way possible) fanbase.
Not much to say about Ohio, just that the further they go the better we look as well.
I will root for Illinois and Minnesota. I will remain neutral as far as the other BIG teams are concerned.
heres a man who knows his basketball!
Have yall seen the "Boss Button" on the NCAA March Madness Live Website? http://www.ncaa.com/march-madness-live/
Worth checking out for a good laugh & if your boss is walking by...
(didnt think it was thread worthy but worth a glance!)
Yea, it's been there for the last few years.
Root for whoever you want to. I myself, will root for the Big 10. Here's my breakdown by region.
I want Wisconsin to make it to the Sweet Sixteen, beat Gonzaga, and lose to OSU in the Elite 8. (I just think we match up terribly against Wisconsin, and don't want to see them again.)
I want MSU to make it to the Sweet Sixteen, beat Duke, and lose to Louisville in the Elite 8. (I think the schadenfreude of not making it to the Final Four for MSU is great.)
I want Indiana to make it to the Final Four, and for Michigan to get a rematch. It is impossible for me to decide who I would want to win less: Indiana or Ohio. Nonetheless, I don't mind them getting there.
I want Michigan to beat three number one seeds:
- Kansas, to get to the Elite 8
- Louisville, to get to the Championship Game
- Indiana, to win the Championship
I'd love to see the Big 10 with 3 entries in the Final Four
The way the bracket is set up, you'd have to reverse the order of the Louisville and Indiana games. Michigan would play Indiana in the semifinal and Louisville in the final.
However, Michigan could theoretically play Ohio State in the final.
But I don't care, I want to see them all go down.
I will not root for any other big ten teams this year! I hate the other big ten teams with a passion.
Don't be a Sparty.
Obama put Michigan in his elite 8--only losing to Florida so he wouldn't seem big ten biased..
I root for Michigan first, and then for the George Masons of the world.
no way in hell will i root for msu, osu, indiana, or wisconson.
I will not root for Sparty or OSU in anything. I will also not root for Crean. It is painful to watch Wisconsin, so rooting for them is kind of a challenge, but otherwise okay.
I usually just root for whoever I want to win with no thought required. I just start pulling for one team or the other. I wouldn't mind seeing four Big Ten teams in the Final Four, though, as long as none of them wear green and white.
