NCAA Time: Do we root for fellow B1G teams?

MgoBoard:

Do we root for our fellow Big Ten teams in the NCAAs?  After a brutal conference schedule, with more than one heart-breaking loss, I don't know if I can bring myself to root for anybody in the Big Ten this year.

I hate Wisconsin more than ever, I'm  sick of Sparty, I don't want to see Tom Crean win anything and rooting for Ohio is out of the question.

But, it would look bad for the conference if they don't go far.  Should we root for the conference to look good?

What's a Wolverine to do?

In prior years I would have rooted for Indiana but Crean's recurring douchebaggery has me leaning towards cheering for their opponents.

I loathe the style of basketball that Ryan and Wisconsin employ but I don't see how WI losing in the first round will bring his retirement on any earlier. Their victories validate our season. We need for them to beat good teams and go far so that when people look back at this season, it makes what we have accomplished legit. If they all lose, it gives credence to the SEC/ACC complaints and devalues our struggles.

I'd cheer for the conference in that case.

Feel free to tow the company (conference) line.  For me, Michigan wins + embarrassing first round losses for the rest of the teams in our league = profit.

Every game that a B1G team plays in earns the conference money and that money is split evenly between the teams. So, rooting for B1G = rooting for Michigan.

That said, I'm still rooting for my bracket because my bracket winning = money for me.

I will not be rooting for Indiana because I do not want Tom Crean to achieve any more success nor will I be rooting for Wisconsin because I don't want to encourage Bo Ryan's style of clutch and grab basketball.

Other then those two I will always root for the Big Ten, but as others have said that does not mean I will not take some joy out of seeing MSU or OSU losing before Michigan does.

Hate on the other teams all you want; I'll understand. What's good for the conference, though, is, at least to some degree, good for Michigan.

Imagine what would happen in football if all the teams suddenly sunk to Big East levels of competitiveness. Do you think that would help/hurt Michigan when bowl picks were made?

I cheer for my bracket picks, so conference allegiences do not exist during march madness for me. The only time I knowingly cheer against my bracket is if U of M is doing the bracket busting. Also, if/when my bracket is widdled down to nothing, I cheer for the underdogs to bust the brackets of the others left standing.

But then my skin starts to crawl...

Tom Crean can rot in h-e-double-hockey sticks.

Izzo I like, but, his fan base is a few steps ahead of Tom Crean.

I think h-e-double-hockey-sticks is colored scarlet & gray.

Of course I'll be rooting for Big Ten teams.  I'd like to show the country that yes, our conference is indeed the most difficult conference to play basketball in.  I do have my qualms about each of them, though.

I do despise Crean and I think he's probably the most annoying coach in the conference, Wisconsin plays the flavor of basketball that turns your brain into mush while watching and also fuck Wisconsin, and Minnesota is the most frustratingly inconsistent team in the conference, I like Izzo but the Izzone is the most bro-ish (and I mean that in the most negative way possible) fanbase.

Not much to say about Ohio, just that the further they go the better we look as well.

HAIL.
