Mark Emmert, the NCAA President, was on the Scott Van Pelt show today and discussed his opinion on how coaches who break the rules (*cough, cough, I'm lookin' at you Tressel*) should be held to a higher standard. Specifically, he said that college coaches also serve as teachers and mentors, and as such, should be held to a higher standard. At the end, he also addresses the paying of students topic. It's a nice listen.
NCAA President re: Punishing Coaches
I'll believe it when I see it actually apply to a good/winning coach.
I know. I keep reminding myself that the NCAA does stupid shit like, well, like they always do. I thought it was interesting though, and refreshing, to hear him actually say that college coaches should be held to a higher standard. We'll see.
He had to say that - he certainly couldn't be on record saying otherwise - but it's still nice that he had to.
I hope the NCAA lives up to this. It's all talk until the hammer gets released on the liar in ohio.
