NCAA Lacrosse National Championship Open Thread

Anyone interested in the lacrosse national final? Duke-ND, Duke is up 2-0 after the first quarter. Game is on ESPNU. I hate cheering for ND, but I find myself rooting for them here. Maybe it's because it would be cool for a Midwest team to win a lacrosse title. Also one of their top players, Sergio Pekovic, is a frosh from Brother Rice.

If you want to see what it would look like for a football player to play lacrosse, check out Myles Jones for Duke, #15. He's 6'4" 240 and just scored a goal. Also has an assist.

It's on ESPN2, not ESPNU. And I just can't root for Notre Dame, I have to root for Duke. Plus, I would rather Michigan be the first team from the west to win the national championship!

Duke's up 5-1 going at the half and will start the second half with a 30 second man advantage. ND is looking like they don't belong on the same field as Duke.

I can't stand either program. I had a friend that played for them from 08-12, it's amazing to see the what Notre dame has done in six years. They have had a program much longer than us but it makes me hopeful for the future of our own program.

Sergio Perkovic is single handedly bringing ND back into this game. Too bad Michigan Lax couldn't have convinced him to stay home. Could use elite talent like him to build a program.

But Dookies barely held on.

I root for Duke because my daughter graduated from there in 2003 so I have a substantial capital investment in the school.

Watch out for Pekovic in the next several years.  His parents' deli is going to be a popular place.

Lacrosse is the only sport I find it okay to root for Duke, because of all that program has been through since 06 and the heights they have climbed to since.

All that said, I think it's only another 4-5 years before Michigan is competing at this level. I perused some lax recruiting info and since it all takes place in kids freshman/soph years of high school, we have some serious national talent coming in over the next few years including next year's #1 Goalie nationwide and several players in the top 10 overall in 2016.

We definitely have some serious talent coming in over the next few years, but it will be a lot more than 4-5 years before we're contending for a national championship.  The recruiting classes that schools like Duke bring in compare to ours similarly to how Alabama's football recruiting class compares to ours.  Sure, we have a Jabrill Peppers and a Michael Ferns.  But their entire class every year is those guys.

We will be competing for a spot in the tourney in 4-5 years, but it will take a lot longer than that before we'll have a legit shot at a national title.

when Boston scored 5 runs to tie it. Flipped over to this game and caught the last 4 minutes. The last two goals were incredible! The Duke player ran around two ND players like he was Denard running through Western Michigan. Great goal to ice it.

I wish we could have landed Sergio, although I believe he was already committed to ND before we even announced a varsity team.  He is a difference maker, and glad he's from Michigan.

He's not quite Myles Jones though.  I think Jones might be the favorite for the Tewaarton next year.  Myles Thompson will be as well, but without his brother and cousin, I'd expect his production to be down quite a bit as teams will be able to game plan to stop him.

I'm pulling big time for Thompson.  I was really rooting for them in the quarterfinals vs ND but they blew a 5 goal lead in the 4th.  It would have been awesome to have brothers/cousin combo in the Final 4 on the national stage.  But, we'll get to see the 3 of them in action again in the World Championships this summer for the Iroquois National team (only Lyle is on the roster now but I assume theyre playing).  All those games will be on ESPN, I'll be rooting for them!
