NCAA Inquiry Fully Underway/SI Article Release Open Thread

Reports emerging that the SI article will hit the internets around 7:30-8 pm tonight. Multiple threads with great comments/pictures are accumulating and are Welcome Reposts as we build towards The Story.

Further, Twitter is abuzz that the NCAA is well on its way of investigating OSU for violations (http://bit.ly/kpz4qA).

From what I've heard, the SI report involves the fact Tressel may have had direct knowledge that, specifically, Pryor was involved in car issues and chose not to escalate matter or look further (Youngstown much?). This is the source of the "Pryor is Done" stories, AFAIK, and may lead to an epic level of Lack of Institutional Control when paired with "I Hope He Doesn't Fire Me" comments. Still don't think it's going to be the Bomb that everyone's hoping for that connects all the dots - this might be left for the NCAA to complete. (Edit: 11Warriors post reflects same info as I mentioned).

Anyways... for now... Worst State Ever... (HT: WFNY)

I'd be willing to mod a LiveBlog in exchange for a great article, but I think it'll be anti-climatic with Tressel gone and an NCAA ruling months away.

I have chosen... wisely

WIFE UPDATE:  She just asked me if I'd heard anything yet.  I said, "no, but it sounds like something with Pryor receiving some serious impermissible benefits."  She responded, "oh, like that guy that was dating Kim Kardashian?"

and I am having a running commentary with a Buckeye fan. He says, "Why would the program get hit? This is all about Tressel knowing and not telling." He is a typical Buckeye fan, they are in denial.

Tressel-gate is on CNN right now. Andy Staples, their resident college football guy, is basically just saying he lied to the NCAA and that was the nail in his coffin. They also showed the cover of the SI issue, it's titled 'How Deep It Went' which also sounds like a great name for a porno.

In retrospect, isn't it extremely lucky that we didn't end up landing Pryor?

I imagine with Pryor at the helm we would have won at least a few more games.

RR would probably still be around but then we would have had to pay for all the violations Pryor has committed. Personally, I'd much rather be in the situation we are now.

Now, this isn't a rip on RR, so I don't want to stir that pot at all. And I know that if Pryor had come here maybe RR could have done a better job of keeping him in line (although I'm not sure anyone could have kept Pryor in line)

I'm just glad that we can look back and say I'm glad we didn't get that kid. I kind of felt that way before, but now I know its true.

I'm not a huge RR fan, but right now I can't help but have some sympathy for the guy.  He gets creamed by OSU three years running, which couldn't have helped his chances.  Now, when it's too late, we find out that the Bucks were cheating all along.  He has to be thinking -- "Damn, if we'd just managed to keep the score respectable against Mississippi State, I'd have gotten some breathing room with three Ls basically coming off my record, and I'd be looking at ending next year against a badly wounded OSU team."

Not the best way to hold on to your job, but it beats getting fired.

I'm not going to gloat because I lived through the Ed Martin fiasco and saw what that can do to a program, but man OSU is in trouble.  And to think, people were KILLING RR for not getting Pryor - imagine the clusterfrick he could have caused here.

The only problem was the RR put his eggs in a non winnable situation with Pryor and didnt have a backup plan...the one QB from Florida had a cocaine issue, and the other kid from Florida allegedly wanted money....top that off with RR not being at all flexible with his offensive scheme and there is 3-9 staring you in the face.

I don't remember people getting on RR for losing Pryor.  Recruiting battles are always unpredictable, and we weren't even on Pryor's radar before RR came here.  I think people were bummed to lose him but didn't ever really expect him to come.  Losing Mallett got RR considerably more heat, IIRC.

wrong - anti-RR Meme no 613  - RR put all his eggs in Terrelle Pryor basket and didnt recruit any other quarterbacks.

Of course espousing that meme forget that RR got in very late in the game because Bill Martin was sailing.  He took a pass on paying cash for BJ Daniels and ended up with Feigin.  Shortly after the spring game, RR then landed Devin Gardner.  He wanted Pryor who was perfect athletically for his system.

Maurice Clarett provided this gem of a quote back in August of 2009. It may pertain to prison time but I digress.

"One thing I know is that in due time everyone and everything gets exposed. Prison teaches you how to expose everyone and everything through conversation."

A poster on 11 Warriors just mentioned new rumors that TP was involved in points shaving.

Yes, please. Thank you. Return to your normal activities.
