Division III National Championship tonight, featuring the epic matchup of Mount Union vs. Wisconsin-Whitewater.
On at 8 PM: Montana vs. Sam Houston State, one of the semifinal matches for the FCS NC playoff.
somehow we're only 124th
Seventh straight year it's been these two teams in the title game, each has won three of previous six with Whitewater winning the last two and 44 straight games overall. These always seem to be really played game between these two, should be an exciting game.
Punt from inside the opponent's 35 spotted!
The field position, it trumps all else. Even if you only gain 20 yards of it.
I grew up 15 minutes away from Mount Union so I hope they take. Go Mount!
In wisconsin so I hope Mount Union wins too!
Ummm... don't move to Michigan then?
I'm hated here for cheering for Michigan. No need to support the states teams.
I currently live 15 min from MU. Larry Kehres is 323-23-3 since 1986...Amaizing
Since that ordering is monotonically decreasing?
Then Kehres would be 323-3-23. Amazing. (Doesn't quite muster an amaizing.)
Wins and losses are more common and "meaningful" for records than ties in games so they list losses second.
I knew two QBs from Mount Union, each of which threw to Pierre Garcon. It's an amazing level of dominance to play 7 straight times for a NC. Rediculis.
This is completely off topic but I was just accepted to LSA for the class of 2016! I am so excited! GO BLUE!
LSA students received their decisions earlier than everyone else?
No, they release them by school I think, between now and the 23rd.
I don't think so. Decisions just started going out tonight. I know a few engineers who have gotten in too.
Oh ok. I was told I'll be receiving my decision next Friday. Congrats and hopefully we'll be classmates.
WW strikes first, 44 yard FG good.
....even better coming off what seemed like epic O-line vaporization.
WW moving the ball decently on the ground. MU is not helping itself with penalties.
Go Griz, baby! Wish this game was in Missoula!
This is a waaay better level of football than the Wisc-Whitewater game...
Nobody knows what your saying
San Houston State's RB just ran 69 yards for the TD, 14-0.
I think you mean touchdownerino. Okily dokily?
Both these teams are very solid in DIII. I went to grad school at Averett University in Viginia and Mount Union beat us 75-7 a few years back. They could have easily put up triple digits had the dogs not been called off.
Montana's getting spanked.
Hey, did you know they've met seven straight times?
.....and those of us hanging out in the Division I world primarily complain about rematches in title games, right? I was carrying my daughter to her bedroom at the time (I hand it to my children for sitting through some Div. III football - sports people, both of them) when I heard that.
Way this one is going that might of just sealed it, what a momentum shift
MU's punter isn't doing the team any favors.
It's UM, dude! This game's not over..
Edit: Ohhhhh... Mount Union.....
For those who do not know, Mount Union is notorious for offering extra financial aide to get certain "athletic students" which is generally frowned upon in DIII but not illegal. And W-Whitewater is part of the same University of Wisconsin system as all other state schools and receives extra aide and funding many other DIII schools do not get. Not bitter, just puts the recent dominance into a little perspective.
Where in TX trueblue?
Austin area. You?
El Paso. Only have been able to visit austin a few times but real fun city. Was going to watch bowl games with friends and any Blue bloods are more than welcome to join! Is it safe to assume you're going to the Dallas game?
Assuming I'm still in the area, yes, my wife is already aware of the Bama game. I would have figured out a way to get to the Sugar Bowl but we have a new 8 week old little wolverine in training, so I have to pick my battles.
Oh well congratulations! Good luck with the wife and the Bama game!
the Wisconsin league schools are the size of a Division I University plus as public schools are cheaper to attend than your typical private Division III institution. Still, Lance Leopold is now something like 59-1 as a head coach and is in his 30's. I wonder what point he'll get a look from a larger school.
Mount Union was I my division, and London Fletcher was at John Carol, also in the OAC. We were often blasted, need I say more.
I'd give you a +5 for an OAC reference if could. Grew up watching every Wittenberg Tiger game as a kid. Then they had to move to the NCAC.
Grew up in Springfield, my dad's a prof at Witt. I went to many a football and basketball game. I believe they are #1 all time in Division III football wins.
Dad was Provost from '78 - '90. Hardly missed a football or basketball game for 13 years. Still follow Witt via the web.
Cap kid here
My mom probably worked with your dad. She was in the advancement office in good ol' Recitation Hall. Did you go to UM?
How funny. Yes, I ran around Recitation Hall. Dad didn't let me go to U of M. Had to go to small private liberal arts. You can guess why. Ended up at Augustana in Rock Island.
...North Park alum here.
WW pulls it off. Three Div. III NCs in a row.
That should seal WW 3rd straight DIII National Championship.
Not enough points for a thread but espn bottom line said Lukey is a candidate for the Pitt job.
