NCAA Basketball Thread (Michigan State Vs Ohio State)
Tip off in 10 minutes on ESPN, from East Lansing. This should be a good one and a glimpse into what these teams are really about ("Big 10 play" and all that).
Meanwhile, one of our early season defeats is running the #7 team in the country, Baylor, out of the gym in Hilton Coliseum.
Who ya got, Sparty or the Buckeyes? I'll take Sparty by 11 @ home, I think Ohio may not be as great/good as their record shows.

No doubt about it, the 'Clones are damn good. Kane has been playing like an All-American (as the announcers kept chiming in with, but it's true) and he's just one of a few very, very good players on that roster (Ejim of course and Nieng).

Seems to be plenty of meteor games on TV the last few weeks.

So...not Trice or Payne for MSU, wow OSU should handle this one based on that.
January 7th, 2014 at 9:15 PM ^
Well, by the numbers, it should be close - Massey only gives a slight edge to Michigan State with a 53% projected win probability. The median projected score would be 64-63. Per TeamRankings, Ohio State would be a 5.5 point underdog in this one.

What a display by Williams

Everyone else is following suit it appears. Must be too cold to play basketball.
And did we really need Dakich to go onto the floor for that? No Tim Duncan footage on file at ESPN.

Costello looks like he's just trying to not offend anyone and avoid eye contact out there.

State always has the worst white guys I swear.
January 7th, 2014 at 9:32 PM ^
That's only a recent trend, Neitzel, Davis, and Suton were solid players for years.

Touche, I guess I have a selective memory. And having Stauskus and seeing how athletic he is just makes theirs seem so gumpy and awful.

All of those guys were highly punchable, though.

Duke also won. I know, ugh, but it's good for our RPI.

Good game, but Dakich is the worst freaking announcer. He's unlistenable.

Always silly to judge an NCAAM BB game after one half, but I'm too tired to stay up.
Both teams look beatable. Sparty's D looks good, but not vicious as it has in the past. They actually look a little lethargic, despite being at home. Harris is great, though, and Payne is clearly hobbled. Ohio looks OK, but not in any way intimidating. Look small and/or thin.

Interviewing Izzo right there... not a job I would want.

Thought he sounded silly, like a little kid. "I thought he pushed him out... I don't like that!"

I'm still laughing at him for crying about Darius Morris in March 2011 in the 'Get The Fuck Off My Court' game.

If MSU was healthy I think they would be wiping the floor with OSU right now. As good as a PG Craft is there isn't a lot around him.
How OSU doesn't run their O through Ross is beyond me. He's their biggest weapon as a scorer and rarely touches the ball.
Also...once again we see why both Coach B and Coach Izzo passed on Amir Williams. Hard to believe he was a top 50 kid in the country out of HS.

Does State lose Dawson, Appling, Harris, and Payne after this year? They may be screwed next year unless they can recruit some beasts. None of the other guys seem to do much.
January 7th, 2014 at 10:12 PM ^
Is Dawson considered an NBA prospect? Appling/Payne are seniors and Harris is probably gone.

Dakich showing he doesn't just rip Michigan (or has he had a change of heart?) by ripping OSU's non-conference schedule.
It's nice to see Michigan's schedule turning out to be a little more difficult than first glance.

It helps that his son plays on the team.
January 7th, 2014 at 10:29 PM ^
Yeah, that was my point. I guess I didn't make it very obvious.
January 7th, 2014 at 10:14 PM ^
As a Michigan parent, he is beginning to understand the importance of loathing Ohio.
January 7th, 2014 at 10:16 PM ^
Should we be rooting for the Buckaroos?
January 7th, 2014 at 10:25 PM ^
I guess it's better if Sparty wins, because we play them twice and Ohio only once. And in the B1G race, we don't really want one contender to win on another contender's floor. Still pretty disgusting to root for Sparty though.
January 7th, 2014 at 10:34 PM ^
I will never want those cretins to win a basketball game.
ohio is not the basketball rival, to me. So I always want them to beat state. Same thing goes for hockey.

Payne looks like he's on pace to drop 35 in this 2nd half, which would be a fitting way to celebrate his 35th birthday today.
