Florida is the 1 seed but they didn't even win their conference nor did they win their conference tournament.

If we're gonna get in, it's likely going to be in the Louisville Regional. And that will be the last one announced.

No I wouldn't.

We didn't deserve to get in.

But it's amusing to me that teams like Minnesota and Nebraska got in. And freaking Washington whose RPI is in the 50s.

It's not like we would've won a game in this tournament anyway with the way we've been playing lately.

Wolverine Devotee

May 30th, 2016 at 12:22 PM ^

Yeah, I don't see it happening.

Although, Washington getting in with an RPI in the 50s......

So much for taking the next step.

Pathetic 2-9 finish that included losses to Oakland and CMU did us in.

Complete collapse. Not even in the last 3 out.

You take away that B1G Tournament run last year and we don't make it in. So was last year a fluke that was aided by great older players like Maezes, Cronenworth and Glines?

Don't know. Better be in the tournament next year. Step back this year.

Maybe it's my fault for expecting something. Hell, our best consistent run as a program was when we were cheating in the 80s.

Neg me all you want, Out of Left Field, but this season has been disappointing.

Wolverine Devotee

Being disappointed with a 2-9 finish to the season is shitting on them. Definitely. I guess you could say no one on here is a basketball fan after that season.

Good call. Your hatred for me makes you lose touch with my actual point.

Shove off.

No you just shit on any Michigan team during every game. You are at a crossroads. I was once like you, down to the pre-Internet mind you, super guides. My fandom knew no bounds. Then I matured and realized that these are kids. They are trying really hard. The coaches make mistakes. Players make mistakes. I hold my teams to a High standard but that isn't the same as crapping on them constantly. I build up as a fan. I tear down and rebuild as a coach. Screaming like a petulant toddler on this blog won't make Michigan win more. But it will show that we have a number of irrational and immature fans.

I don't think it's good to just shit on teams constantly but if we're going to cal ourselves leaders and best I think it's okay to expect a little more than what we get. The only major sport of football, basketball, hockey, and baseball to consistently compete for national titles is the hockey team. And I'm not saying I expect the badeball team to win national titles but making the tournament reguarly seems reasonable.

baseball as a major sport? Lol, not in the north in college. There's only a huge minor league system that tends to dominate. Frankly at michigan, both in potential and current reality, softball is ahead by leaps and bounds and does compete for championships. The basketball team was in the championship game only a few years ago, and football in the new coach's first season was in serious playoff scenarios heading into the last weekend

No I fucking don't, don't accuse me of that.

The only time I've done anything close to that was criticizing the hockey team for underachieving during game threads. And I stopped posting in those after the OSU series meltdown because nothing good can come from raw emotion if things are going bad. Even then, I was criticizing the coaching for the same recurring problems that have been around for years.

Give me a break.

When you have such expectations coming into the season and don't come close to them, I think it's okay to criticize. Especially if you get off to a great start and seemingly have everything rolling and it just stops all of a sudden. People would be going ballistic if we did this in football or basketball. Baseball being a non-revenue sport doesn't make them off-limits. I'm not calling anyone out by name.

If we didn't have expectations prior to the season and still lost, I wouldn't be upset.

I'm not constantly crapping on anyone. That's such bullshit it's unreal.

If anything I'm overly defensive of them.

I mean what expectations did you have? This is Michigan Baseball, and there's no Barry Larkin on this team, and probably never will be again. They almost made the tournament. It would be nice if they had, but those expectations sound about right to me. Solid season, but didn't quite get over the hump. Mothing really to get upset over.

I expected us to be in it for if not win the B1G Championship and be in for an at-large bid.

The second part of that could've been accomplished had we just not went into that massive slump.

The first part was very viable, too. We had a good schedule. I think if we had next year's, this year, we would be in the tournament and be painting a championship year on the wall.

I really don't understand what happened at the end there. I just hope it's not something beyond us not playing well.

JBE

May 30th, 2016 at 4:23 PM ^

Those are lofty, but I understand wanting the team to achieve those goals. And it probably was just us not playing well. Baseball is such a fickle game, with hot streaks and cold, and the season just ended on a cold. If this were MLB the team would have 100 plus games to work it out, but in college a cold streak, as we saw, can end your season. The offense cooled down considerably, and the pitching struggled at times. Whatcha going to do really? It happens in baseball, more so than other sports I would say.

Wolverine Devotee

May 30th, 2016 at 4:27 PM ^

No, I understand. Sometimes I gotta remind myself that, too. I just figured the next step would be getting in position to make it in as an at-large. Even if we did and didn't win the conference, I'd still be happy with the progress.

It just sucks that it had to be this year that this happened. I'm not so sure if Benedetti will be back next year.

God knows what would've happened if Cronenworth came back.

I just wanna get back to what we were in the mid-2000s so bad. We were MONSTERS back then.

I remember those games as a kid. Parents took me out of school to go to the Big Ten Tournament back when the champion hosted them. The Putnam team in 2007 should've made it to the World Series.

If it weren't for the construction at the stadium in 2007, we would've hosted the super against Oregon State and may have won the thing.

national rankings, there isn't a team above the Mason-Dixon line considered a serious baseball program. The South, Southwest and West Coast dominate college baseball. Always have, always will.

The only reason Michigan succeeds so well at softball is because of their coach and the elite program she has built. She recruis nationally, competes for the first two months of thes season on the road and just wins.

Compare that to Michigan baseball, which draws on a limited talent base and with no coaching longevity is forced to constantly retool in cold country. Not only is weather the biggest problem for northern and Midwest teams, but they rarely get exposure.

you're an outsider, much less are you invested by actually being on the team, so no, you don't get to criticize without being crapped on in turn. They don't owe you anything. You're far from the only one with this problem, but he is right. In 10 years you're gonna be ashamed, because not only do your criticisms come off as whiny tantrums, but they add NOTHING of value here. Oh really, 2-9 finish, gee i couldn't have figured that out myself. Better be in the tournament next year....or else what? You gonna whine even more? Is there no filter at all?

you can reasonably voice your thoughts on specific areas of improvement (constructive criticism!) in the kind of thoughtful dissection that is useful on blogs, you can show passion, but no one wants to hear this shit

and you're wrong about another thing: Being non revenue does matter, because no one is making out like a bandit. Laying into harbaugh or the AD is one thing, but poorly compensated assistants and players - i.e. 95% of the people who impact the game's outcome in various sports - is more than a little pathetic. And you don't have to call them out by name to accomplish this

If you have a reasonable sense for what northern baseball is up against relative to warm weather teams, making the post-season every few years is an accomplishment.

Step back from the ledge and calm the eff down.  Your rants are making it very unpleasant to read through a thread.  And since you comment on all of them...

FieldingBLUE. That pretty much sums up where I am as a Michigan fan, too. The athletes are exactly that: kids growing into young men and women, feeling their way through a new stage of their lives as students no longer under mom and dad's roof. STUDENT-athletes, not millionaire professionals. I root for them with might and main in the hope that we win, but if not I still cheer their efforts. I, too, have a problem with "shitting" on teams that fall short of goals. Maybe a reminder is needed to those who feel entitled to nothing but championships: those enemy teams are also comprised of kids striving to win, too. We're not the only ones that are competing for championships; knowing this allows me to enjoy even more the victories and championships that my teams do achieve. I actually feel sorry mostly for those who don't understand this and instead badmouth the very teams, Coaches, and/or athletes they claim to support. Like my one-word response earlier, "pathetic".

That's not what I'm doing. But those of you who choose to zero in on me because you don't care for me will paint it as that.

It's a message board on the internet. We voice our pleasure, displeasure, celebrate and grieve together on here. A couple weeks ago in a baseball thread you flipped out at other people for complaining about a blown lead like they're not supposed to mention anything going on that's not good.

It's not like I'm one of those dickheads who go on twitter and yell at the athletes or the official accounts of these teams and run them down.

I love these guys. I've been to games this year. I'm hoping they play "at" Oakland next year so they can come and play in my hometown at the new Jimmy Johns Field.

things only with the colors you provide with your own posts and comments, WD. As for"zeroing in", go ahead and believe that if it makes you happy and fulfilled. But your "0h woe is me/why's everybody always picking on me??" act is really getting old. So I "flipped out" at others about a blown lead a couple weeks ago? How about providing a link and let's take a look...

I'm just telling it how it is. And it's a fact. There would be some on here that would be happy if I was dead tomorrow. And that's the truth because I've been told that before.

Which is pretty sad that some people hate someone they've never even met because they don't agree with them on a message board. It's a message board.

posted such things, I hope you've reported them to the mods.  We don't need that kind of idiocy around here.  F'n inexcusable.  But I have yet to see anything like that here; on other message boards, though, I have,  sorry to say.

As for the linked comment that you referenced, what was there that was wrong and/or inflamatory here?  How is this "flipping out"?

"Save the crying of "choke" and WD's "not ready for the big stage" crap for your pro teams. They're paid the big $$$ to perform so it comes with the territory.

But these are student-athletes you guys are insulting and it's a bad look to act like entitled crybabies. Pretty pitiful, IMO, for Michigan 'fans' to act like that."

I highly doubt anyone wants you dead (probably not even Dave Brandon), so turn back the hyperbole and calm down.

The problem is that you comment in every thread that I open.  And you rant and rave and turn every thread into a look at me moment for yourself.  It really is unpleasant to read.  This might be why you are collecting an amazing following of commentors that dislike you.
